What food shall I serve at 80s party

Planning a post lockdown 80s party at mine. Probably over 50 guests. Going to be a BBQ and buffet. Trying to think of typical food from the 1980s. So far I have
Vol au vents
Cocktail sausages on sticks
Sausage rolls
Cheese and pineapple hedgehog
Sandwiches (cheese, ham etc)
Carrot sticks and dips
Monster munch
Space raiders
Fruit salads and black jacks
Dib daps
Wham bars
Cupcakes with 80s theme (rainbow cases, 80s toppers)

There will be burgers etc for the BBQ part. I have so many decorations - it will look amazing and a very long 80s playlist.

Can you think of any other typical 80s buffet food I can serve?

I’m more of a 90s girl but I’m sure open sandwiches (only the top or bottom of a bread roll with the filling placed on top) would have been popular in the 80s too and a trifle of course.

Buffalo wings

Lemon meringue pie

Dreadful shop bought sponge based flan with tangerine segments

@x2boys

There was always a jelly in the shape of a rabbit at all the 80,s parties I went to.
It was chocolate blancmange in the shape of a rabbit surrounded by chopped-up lime jelly 'grass' when I was an '80s kid!

Jugs of Apeel? Do they still make it?

RomainingCalm · 07/04/2021 17:30

It's getting to the end of the 80s but I was drining Archers and Lemonade, Taboo/Mirage, Diamond White/Blush, K cider, Hooch and MadDog20:20.

Oh, and snakebite and blackcurrant. Made a mess of most parties. Grin

Lambrusco or even worse, Lambrini
Blue Nun Liebfraumilch & Mateus Rosé were also 80s classics.
mellicauli · 07/04/2021 17:57

I think a lot of what you have listed is 70s. 80s is:

Lasagne with garlic bread
Cheesecake with mango strawberry and kiwi fruit salad

Mexican food with spanish beer in a bottle with lime segment in the top

Cocktails especially Strawberry Daquairi

Chocolate gateau served with single cream

LowlandLucky · 07/04/2021 18:01

I will bring bottles of Hock if you invite me.

AdaColeman · 07/04/2021 18:08

Quiche
Pizza
Chicken Maryland
Scampi

Pâté and savoury mousse such as avocado, with toast.

Chicken supreme or a very mild chilli, served with plain boiled rice were regular hot buffet dishes.

Cheesecake and pavlova were popular 80s puddings.

A lot of items mentioned are more 60s and 70s than 80s, but still tasty and fun of course!

jessstan2 · 07/04/2021 18:55

Blue Nun and Black Tower, maybe Le Pia Dor.

jessstan2 · 07/04/2021 18:55
