What food shall I serve at 80s party

Planning a post lockdown 80s party at mine. Probably over 50 guests. Going to be a BBQ and buffet. Trying to think of typical food from the 1980s. So far I have
Vol au vents
Cocktail sausages on sticks
Sausage rolls
Cheese and pineapple hedgehog
Sandwiches (cheese, ham etc)
Carrot sticks and dips
Monster munch
Space raiders
Fruit salads and black jacks
Dib daps
Wham bars
Cupcakes with 80s theme (rainbow cases, 80s toppers)

There will be burgers etc for the BBQ part. I have so many decorations - it will look amazing and a very long 80s playlist.

Can you think of any other typical 80s buffet food I can serve?

Prawn cocktail, Chicken in a basket and black forest gateaux were the staple food choices on my waitressing job at the local pub in the late 1980s.

There was always a jelly in the shape of a rabbit at all the 80,s parties I went to.

Sounds more 70s to me .

Nearly all of these ideas are 60s, not 80s! 80s was nouvelle cuisine and feather-patterns of cream on tomato soup/raspberry coulis - and barrelled carrots - the hours I wasted on them! And tiramisu.

PeacheyPeach · 07/04/2021 15:01

Sara Lee gateaux 😍

jessstan2 · 07/04/2021 15:02

Fondue.

No they're not. I was in my 20's and newly married in the 80's and I know what I used to serve at buffets and what I ate at other people's. The OP isn't doing a dinner party with nouvelle cuisine, she's doing a buffet.

Hate to disappoint you but black jacks and fruit salads are not what they used to. They're really soft and horrible whereas they used to be really hard. So I wouldn't bother with those.

Scampi

I must be old as lots of these suggestions sound like the 1970's to me🤣

teenagetantrums · 07/04/2021 15:47

But yes to Sarah Lee gauteax🤣

StressedTired · 07/04/2021 16:24

Cheese and pineapple hedgehog for the win!! Prawn cocktail, then jelly and ice cream after, jelly preferably shaped like a rabbit. This sounds awesome, please can I come to your party?!

AAT65 · 07/04/2021 16:33

Definitely sound 70s to me. Party for 50 post lockdown that'll be a nice 2019 covid vibe.

Yup. Wham bars are similarly disappointing. They used to be bright pink and so chewy you'd risk losing a wobbly tooth (or even a non-wobbly one). They're now pale pink and softer and no neon green crunchy bits. Sad

I didn't eat any nouvelle cuisine in the 80s but I did eat an abosolute fuckton of Angel Delight and Monster Munch. I'd forgotten about jelly shaped like rabbits...what was that about?!

LookAChicken · 07/04/2021 16:35

Big plates, tiny portions
Beaujolais
Kiwi fruit

Vickles20 · 07/04/2021 16:37

Cheese and Pineapple sticks on a tinfoiled covered hedgehog!

RandomDent · 07/04/2021 16:37

Dim Sum! Very Working Girl.

VienneseWhirligig · 07/04/2021 16:39

Mandarin segment cheesecake

Be careful with the trifle with hundreds and thousands. I made one for Easter and the colours of the hundreds and thousands bled into the custard and they went a bit soggy. Custard was perfectly set, but I think the food colouring used now isn't what it was with longevity

Gingernaut · 07/04/2021 16:44

Bombay Mix
Garlic bread with cheese
Pizza slices
