What are people doing with DC during these lockdown Easter holidays?

Older DC ages 11 and 9.
Completely fed up of walking and playgrounds.

I’m feeling guilty that they haven’t left the house since Easter Sunday Blush (they have done exercise).

Attempted to force them out to a playground this morning but they are both resisting (SEN) and it’s really not worth the bother.

But what else is there to do?

Is anyone else in the same situation?

It's difficult isn't it. DS is 12 so he's met friends for footie and a bike ride but other than that it's xbox and tv. We walk the dog together and we're going to make a cake tomorrow.

If they're not feeling it then leave them be, no harm in staying home together, let them do whatever they fancy.

We're going camping from the 15th. I cannot wait. I am wfh so they are currently having way too much screen time.

EiffelPower · 07/04/2021 09:25

We had a pyjama day yesterday. Today is shaping up to be another one!

It is (hopefully) the last school holidays that will be like this. We are getting out for a walk every day and always play board games after tea but apart from that it’s basically screen time. It’s cold and miserable outside and nothing interesting is open yet. I came to the conclusion a while ago to let it go.

Whoateallthechocolate · 07/04/2021 09:34

NT sporty 11 & 8 yo here so I have taken the easy option and signed them up for every sport camp going! Some days they're both out, some days just one of them is meaning I get to actually have 1:1 time with the other which is lovely and has been sorely absent for the past 12 months and then we have a couple of days next week when we're doing other things. Normally I'd feel bad - and they'd hate - to be off doing clubs like this day in, day out but they have spent so much time at home in the past 12 months that they are loving it. They're only 10 - 3 (or thereabouts) so, with holiday bedtimes, there are still hours to fill with lego/screens/board games when they get home.

BogRollBOGOF · 07/04/2021 11:52

Similar here. I'm out of mojo. They're unwinding after 4 weeks of school (been a shock to DS1's system)

DS2 has football tomorrow evening. We're off for a proper hill walk at the end of the week. There's a birthday next week so plans for that. At least there'll be a bit more incentive to drag ourselves out with a bit more open.

We've survived thid long, I'm not self flagellating over not walking in bitter winds for the sake of it.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 07/04/2021 11:56

We're struggling with this week! DS is 13. DP and I are WFH which means he basically needs to entertain himself all day. None of his friends seem to want to meet up outdoors...they're all permanently attached to Xbox/PS4 which means DS is too!
I've got next week off and things are starting to open up again so we're hoping at least to do some outdoor activities (canoeing, possibly a zoo visit) and see some family.

ihearttc · 07/04/2021 12:05

DS1 is 16 and has mostly been revising.

DS2 is 10. He has spent 2 days on a football course, we’ve been to 3 NT places. Met up with my sister in law and baby niece, been to the coast (it was freezing!). Done baking, he played his first football match since before Christmas. He’s also played a huge amount of x box and we had a film night with popcorn/sweets.

I’m a TA so this is my break as well so we have really tried to make the most of it.

BusyLizzie61 · 07/04/2021 15:01

So far we've had a mammoth board game day, a multiple play park day, countryside walks, beach, woods, scooter, bike rides, an Easter trail, met friends, today is chill out and relax lol!

Figgygal · 07/04/2021 15:04

Football camps
Crazy golf
Walk at local arboretum today for couple hours with a friend and her kids
Next week going to local animal park

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/04/2021 15:06

I work out of the home so DS is at holiday club this week, then he's with my ex husband next week. I deliberately didn't book any annual leave this time because there's nothing open still. I've booked May half term off instead Grin

SprungisSpringYaY · 07/04/2021 15:09

Well it's very cold isn't it so options are limited. I was hoping for picnics.. But that's out.
It's nice for them to relax and do nothing over some days surely??

MrsAmaretto · 07/04/2021 15:15

@Waxonwaxoff0 I’m the same - there’s no point me wasting my annual leave for their two week Easter holidays. I had the public holiday and other than that they’ve played with friends, waaay too much screen time and have been out in the snow playing!

IpanemaChic · 07/04/2021 15:15

I’ve made a deal with my teens, read until after lunch, then they can have phones and screens. Plus a short walk around block with dog each.

Younger child is working their way through the craft box. Anything left is going to charity after Easter hols.

H1978 · 07/04/2021 15:18

Spent most of the hols at home. Went to brother’s garden to visit new nephew last Saturday and meeting up with sister and kids tomorrow for a picnic at a park.

Dd2 16 catching up on revision for forthcoming exams.

I’ve roped in other 2 dds to clean garden ready for summer and spring clean the house. Ramadhan next week so want main jobs out of the way to not overdo things when fasting.

HelenaJustina · 07/04/2021 15:18

We’ve seen two sets of family for 60-90 minutes in gardens (too cold for any longer!) had orthodontist appointment, eye tests, been on a long walk today with friends (they walk much further/longer with friends!) two more long walks planned for next week.

Have bought a couple of DC books they were after on Kindle and they’ve all read/chilled - I’m another one who isn’t sweating more screen time than usual, they have very limited access compared to their peers.

mammmamia · 07/04/2021 15:18

11 yo twins here.

Just got back from a freezing cold park outing with some friends we haven’t seen for a year. Kids loved it but I’m frozen.

We have booked Kew Gardens for Friday so going to wrap up.

Lots of screen time and Switch.

Right now they’re doing an online escape room.

Next week I’m working so they’re booked into a local STEM camp thankfully, which they enjoy. It’s hard this week due to very cold weather and nothing being open.

One idea people might like is the drive in cinema. The one near us is opening next week so I’ve booked for one evening. We did this a few times last year and it’s good fun.

Navigationcentral · 07/04/2021 15:19

Like any school holiday. Ds aged 5 is at a sports camp at a local school and DD in nursery as year round. Doing extras with DS like 1-1 cricket coaching end of camp everyday, picnics and BBQs etc end of afternoon and weekends once camp is done. No difference to any other time that I can tell!

HelenaJustina · 07/04/2021 15:19

We’ve also done craft, baked, cleaned, moved furniture around in bedrooms...

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/04/2021 15:20

Yep! I had the long weekend too and my ex husband is on annual leave next week so DS will get some nice time with his dad. We have a Butlins break booked for May half term so I've got everything crossed for that!

KeyboardWorriers · 07/04/2021 15:20

DS is doing a few days of sailing courses, DD has some riding lessons booked. Otherwise we are going slightly further afield for walks and playgrounds, and spending time relaxing at home too. We have adventure golf booked and next week the swimming pools etc open!

Woodlandbelle · 07/04/2021 15:21

Nothing on here. So it's been films. Visiting family. Happy Meal Blush was the main trip. Poundshop visit. Football etc in the garden

mammmamia · 07/04/2021 15:21

Well not sure where you are @Navigationcentral but I’m in London and it’s pretty cold for picnics and BBQs here! Smile

GravityFalls · 07/04/2021 15:21

First meet ups playing in friends’ gardens thank goodness.

Other than that, screens or the fucking park.

JudesBiggestFan · 07/04/2021 15:27

I have three children, 12,9 and 3.5.
We've done several Easter egg hunts with the two youngest, picnic with family, garden visits to local grandparents and cousins, cricket camp for four days for my eldest, zoo visit booked for next week, the youngest is at private nursery Wednesday to Friday each week, middle one has got a couple of park play dates planned with his friends. Plus the two eldest are back at football and cricket training and matches. Other than that screen time and playing in the garden and going out on scooters. Definitely the best holiday in a while...just a shame it's not warmer!
