Mice - best way to get rid?

Eesha · 05/04/2021 20:47

Can someone post a link to the best sonic plug thing they recommend. I have seen a mouse a couple of times (hoping just one!) and my humane trap no longer seems to work. In debating getting someone in to block any holes up or the sonic things. Any ideas as to the best way?

Snap traps . humane traps are anything but humane, you do need to block any holes with wire wool though

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/04/2021 20:53

sonic things are crap, as are pest control in finding holes and blocking up. They seem to just put poison down.

If you do go that route, in my experience, going through the council is just as effective and much cheaper than doing it privately.

bloodywhitecat · 05/04/2021 20:53

There'll be more than one and as above, humane traps are not humane. We have snap traps and have stuffed wire wool into every hole except the air bricks.

Eesha · 05/04/2021 20:53

@drinkplease im scared to touch traps, do those sonic things work? If so, can anyone post a link?

Sonic repellers really didn't work at all for us.

murbblurb · 05/04/2021 20:57

No, sonic traps do not work. Get Screwfix no touch snap traps.

JingleCatJingle · 05/04/2021 20:58

Cat!

Itsanothernamechange · 05/04/2021 21:01

I had one mouse for ages. Nothing worked. NOTHING!! Only managed to get rid of it after it fell out of my DD's wellie one morning and it froze in shock. Scooped it up in a pot let it lose 20 mins away on route to her childminders.

Pinkstars2501 · 05/04/2021 21:01

We tried humane ones and they were crap. In the end we used the Big Cheese pre-baited snap traps. You don't need to touch any part near a mouse, just open it like a crocodile clip and the dead mouse will fall into the bin. Caught three and had no more after filling any holes with wire wool and expanding foam.

tobee · 05/04/2021 21:02

Chocolate and/or peanut butter is good trap bait

nomorespaghetti · 05/04/2021 21:04

The sonic repellers don’t work. The only thing that worked for us was getting a cat!

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 05/04/2021 21:04

The sonic things are crap - and if you have any pets of your own, will distress them too, with no means of escape.

Most efficient thing is the "little nippers", baited with peanut butter. They're cheap and can be used on a disposable basis if you're squeamish. They're also highly efficient and killing them instantly.

Just be very, very careful about placement of any traps or poison if you have young children or other pets.

Eesha · 05/04/2021 21:06

I have very small children so perhaps ill just get someone in to sort it.

OP posts:
SweetAsANutt · 05/04/2021 21:07

I am petrified of them and as to get pest control out when what I assume was one ran through the bottom of the broken vent on the kitchen cupboard.

SweetAsANutt · 05/04/2021 21:09

Pressed post too early. The pest control man changed the vent over and said there was a massive hole in the back of the wall which he also filled in!

FredaFox · 05/04/2021 21:18

I had one, only one thankfully! Past control soon sorted it with poison
You don't get to choose what they use but I live in a city centre where there are probably thousands of the sofa so was just happy it was done quietly and quickly
I did put traps down while waiting for past control, he left mine down as well as his and said peanut butter or chocolate is best
Good luck

coogee · 05/04/2021 21:50

The sonic repellers didn't work for us. We were trapping two or three a day in the kitchen until we got the cat. Then the mice disappeared overnight.

I have found one since. In two pieces.

MrsCaptainJakeBallard · 05/04/2021 21:52

You need to find out where it's coming from.
Snap traps down, block up any holes. Clean up and kitchen drawers etc and make sure food isn't being left out in the open. Also would be very surprised if there was only one, generally where there's one there's more.

Merename · 05/04/2021 21:55

How are humane traps not humane - compared to murder?! OP, they need to be placed round perimeter of place poos/mice have been seen, and vary food inside. Peanut butter, chocolate and cheese spread have all worked for me. Then once caught put them in a box and go for a drive and they skip off to freedom. They are so cute! And then yes block up holes with wire wool.

DappledThings · 05/04/2021 21:57

We caught 6 in a fortnight just recently. Seems to be it for now. Bloody ninjas they were though and managed to clear the Little Nipper ones of peanut butter without springing them 3 nights running.

Got some new ones from Homebase called Instant Death(!) and they were the business. Bait goes in a little flap topped section so they have to get right in and they are much easier to set.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 05/04/2021 22:00

You need traps like these:
You don't need to touch the body. Wilkos sell them too. £6 for two in Wilkos.

Place along skirting boards or edges of rooms as that's where mice run. Bait with chocolate spread or Nutella.

I feel for you.

We had one mouse which turned into 68!!!!! Dead mice. That we counted !!!! So prob more than that. This was London though so prob worse .....

Get someone professional in - find out where they are coming in (ours a flat roof above the kitchen) they can get in 1/4 of a biro pen - tiny gap smaller than your finger nail

They love bom bom strawberry jam and chocolate....,

Get someone professional- before it gets bad. It took months for our place to be mouse free.

I’m now terrified of them or anything mouse like ....

Good luck xxx

What do you do with them when you catch them alive?
