Could you give me some advice please?
I'm a typical apple shape, size 18ish.....what do I wear in the summer?!
Hate my legs (as well as the rest of my body) so keen to keep those covered......

Babdoc

I think that’s rather more important than OP’s choice of fashion items, no?

On a "Style and Beauty" board?
No. Presumably if the OP wanted health advice she'd post elsewhere.

And you may not have mentioned the word "feminine", but you did say:

Particularly as you are female - we normally store fat in a pear shape, which is much lower risk. You have the male pattern

Presumably you are - or used to be - more tactful with patients who come to see you.

I looked at this thread because I'm a pretty thin apple - always have been. Any weight I lose goes from my limbs first.
I too am aware of the health risks associated with my shape and would like to lose the abdominal fat, but don't see the point in not trying to look my best for the way I am today, rather than months into the future.

Btw, I'm also a doctor and wouldn't dream of handing out medical advice on a thread that's nothing to do with health; it seems inappropriate to me.

DishingOutDone · 05/04/2021 16:41

@Babdoc isnt going to let it lie.

I suggest you get in a cupboard and have a hard think about it until you change shape. You don't want the doctor thinking you're defensive.

My only interest is in reducing risks to patients’ health

I very much doubt that the OP is your patient.
MN isn't your consulting room.

My only interest is in reducing risks to patients’ health.

That’s fantastic but coming into a thread about a women asking fashion advice who knows she’s overweight and is obviously self conscious of it, is not the best way to do it.

Why not start your own thread warning women about the dangers and if anyone has any questions about it and what advice you can give them to help them. I think that would help lots of people.

I am 5ft 8 and was size 22 and apple shaped, working on it now and have reduced just not quite at goal.

I really liked these style of cropped harems last summer, came to just below the knee, nice and light fabric, a little loose but not MC Hammer style nappylike loose.

Christ, with a bedside manner like that I bet your patients absolutely love you. But at least they're your patients, as opposed to someone on the internet who just wanted some fucking style advice.

Couchbettato · 05/04/2021 17:07

Are you quite busty Op? I love wrap dresses that show a bit of cleavage. Not so much that they become impossible to take the eyes away from, but more to emphasize natural features.

Wrap dresses and wedge sandals.

itsme1978 · 05/04/2021 17:07

@Babdoc I thought you were aiming your advice at me?

Should I now be thanking you that your comments have "saved" another posters life?!

Do you really think that no other person on Mumsnet knows the possible consequences of having fat stores around their middle?!

Babdoc we are not your patients. Your only interest appears to be in being superior and lecturing people. This is the style and beauty board, and your posts are out of context. You know nothing at all about the backgrounds of the people you're lecturing, and clearly nothing about people beyond anatomy and perhaps chemistry... I sincerely hope you're less tone deaf in your professional life.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 05/04/2021 19:55

who are making very unwarranted assumptions!

Pot. Kettle. Babdoc!

normalsaline · 05/04/2021 19:56

don’t worry about babdoc OP, she’s known for posting replies just to mention she’s a doctor
