Could you give me some advice please?
I'm a typical apple shape, size 18ish.....what do I wear in the summer?!
Hate my legs (as well as the rest of my body) so keen to keep those covered......
@babdoc ... seriously??
You’re actually implying that apple shaped women are less feminine than pear shaped- this is ridiculous. It’s about a 50/50 split.
I strongly suggest you learn to think before you type.

For the record OP I’m with you and am this size following childbirth whereas previously I was a size 12-14. Lockdown and subsequent second pregnancy not helping, I’m basically re-learning how to dress.

The best things I’ve found so far are all dresses, or baggy cotton dungarees worn with a kimono type jacket- think Angel from ‘escape to the chateau’, she always looks incredible. I’ll be following with interest
She didn't suggest that apple-shaped women are less feminine, for heavens sake. She suggested that the "apple shape", where fat is stored on the torso rather than on the hips and thighs, is a more male pattern of fat storage and leads to different health problems. Its nothing to do with being a more or less feminine woman!

How about an A line maxi dress? Those ones that cinch in under the boobs then flare out.

eatsleepread · 05/04/2021 15:22

I'm a fellow fattie, but with fucking awful legs, so I can totally relate!
I'm wearing these today. They're super wide culottes style trousers. Quite comfy and flattering.

From a company called Yours Clothing. I bought them a couple of years ago though.

eatsleepread · 05/04/2021 15:25

PMSL at how far apart my feet are there!! Grin I had to stand that way to show you the gap between the legs (they just look like a skirt otherwise)!

autumnkate · 05/04/2021 15:46

Does anyone have a link to a ship with ‘baggy cotton dungarees with a kimono type jacket’? That sounds amazing!

autumnkate · 05/04/2021 15:46

Shop

aibutohavethisusername · 05/04/2021 15:48

I wear a lot of dresses and buy footless tights from Popsy clothing.

PattyPan · 05/04/2021 15:49

Linen trousers are honestly great. I’m an apple/pear 14 and love them, they are cooling. I got some lovely cropped ones from Fat Face a couple of years ago. I wear them with a loose cotton tshirt, usually plain white or grey. Mine are something like this but a different colour.

I'm the same size as you. I discovered tunic dresses from h and m a few years ago, really light and cool. They normally do plain colours, but also some really bright floral / prints. Approx £17)
I wear with cropped leggings ( cheap and thin- cooler)
The tunics are long enough to be a dress but I dislike my legs too, and like the coverage they give.

JackieTheFart · 05/04/2021 15:59

I’m about your size and almost exclusively wear maxi dresses in summer. This also means I don’t have to shave my legs Wink

Rollerboots · 05/04/2021 15:59

This is the sort of dress I like.

Babdoc · 05/04/2021 15:59

Thank you, funnylittlefloozie. You’re quite right, of course I wasn’t making judgments about “femininity”, whatever sexist claptrap that might be.
I’m a doctor, and my only interest is in the risk to OP’s health.
I would advise any woman who has significant fat deposits around her stomach and upper abdomen, rather than on her thighs and buttocks, to get screened as per my previous post. It’s a marker for prediabetes and metabolic syndrome, with associated cardiovascular risk.
I think that’s rather more important than OP’s choice of fashion items, no?

illdoitlater · 05/04/2021 16:03

I'm similar and short! I wear patterned jogger style trousers and plain looser t shirts. I have slimmer legs. I might not look amazing but it's comfortable for summer and don't think it's too bad.

GoToSleepBabyPlease · 05/04/2021 16:10

I think that’s rather more important than OP’s choice of fashion items, no?

The two aren't mutually exclusive. It's also a nice idea that you'd show up overweight at your GP and they'd launch into screening for this and that- pretty sure mine would just tell you to lose weight and send you on your merry way.

itsme1978 · 05/04/2021 16:12

I'm sure you're trying to be helpful @Babdoc but why have you assumed that I'm not aware of this already?
The weight gain is also through no choice of my own , it's a side effect of treatment I'm currently undergoing

@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme both of those dresses are beautiful. Can I ask did you purchase them recently? I have always been v pear shape but have gained a tummy this past year so I seem to stick out from all angles🙈

dementedpixie · 05/04/2021 16:17

I wear shorts in a size 20 and a t-shirt or sometimes vest top (size 20/22) because I've got to an age when I don't care what others think of my body. Although living in Scotland we don't always have the weather for the above outfit Grin.

I also wear cropped cargo type trousers if I don't want all of my legs on show

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 05/04/2021 16:18

Babdoc its incredibly patronising to assume that the op doesn't already know that carrying fat on her stomach is a health risk - everyone over primary school age knows that tbh. It's insensitive and self important to try and make someone else's post on the style and beauty board all about you being a doctor and knowing best Hmm andits terrible psychology to lecture someone who is looking for positive ways to improve their self esteem. It is hard to make healthy choices when feeling miserable and easy when feeling good!

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 05/04/2021 16:22

Onynx yes they're both this year's purchases. I actually got them on the Next.de website but they ship from the UK via Berlin so I'm sure they'd be easier and quicker to get hold of if you're actually in the UK. The maxi dress was on sale for some reason in that black and white colour scheme and they had the same dress in other colours full price.

Thefaceofboe · 05/04/2021 16:26

Maxi / midi dresses I find really flattering on bigger people. Do you use Instagram? Might be worth finding a + plus fashion influencer to get some tips from and maybe see outfits you would never normally think of wearing. Good luck.

toocold54 · 05/04/2021 16:32

Maxi dresses all the way! You can wear a crop cardi to cover your arms if you don’t like them. I think everyone looks good in a maxi dress Grin

DeedledeDee · 05/04/2021 16:33

Hilarious 😆

toocold54 · 05/04/2021 16:34

I would see your GP and get your cholesterol, fasting lipids, blood glucose and blood pressure checked, then start losing weight.

I’m sure OP is well aware of the dangers of being overweight and is taking steps to sort it. If she wants advice I’m sure she’ll start a different thread but this one is about clothing.

Babdoc · 05/04/2021 16:36

There are some very defensive PPs on this thread, who are making very unwarranted assumptions!
My only interest is in reducing risks to patients’ health. If you find that “patronising”, I think it says rather more about you than me.
However, if my posts result in even one woman getting screened and treated early for a potentially life threatening condition, that’s worth being insulted by a few people maligning my motives.
