Tell me about your long-running comedy family feuds

My grandmother, who came from [X] village, married my grandfather who came from [Y] town.

In the early years of their marriage, before my mother was even born, my grandfather got into a disagreement with the owner of a garage in [Z] village, not far from [X] village, who thought my grandfather was a bit jumped up because he was from [Y] town.

This all happened YEARS before my sister, my cousins and I were even thought of, but to this day, when travelling to [X] village, we refuse to refuel at the garage in [Z] village. We also completely intend passing this ridiculous grudge down to the next generation, even though the original owner is presumably long since dead and we don't even really know what the disagreement was about anyway.

What ridiculous long-standing feuds exist in your family?

When he was a teenager my brother was very clumsy and was (quite rightly, we all agree) sacked from his first job in a shop by the boss, “Len”. That was 20 years ago. This hasn’t stopped my mother muttering darkly every time we go past the premises, refusing to go into any subsequent businesses there, AND saying “bloody Len” every time we go past. Len has been dead for several years.

My mum finally returned a teddy bear named Syrup to my uncle a few years ago. That Christmas, she got her pink mug with an elephant on it back from him. They were both in their late 50s by that time.

@AC2022

My grandmother refused to use her village supermarket for the last 30+ years of her life because the shop assistant broke wind (like a trombone apparently) whilst passing her in an aisle. She put down her basket and refused to cross the threshold ever again. Instead, she took two buses to the nearest town - even when it was snowing heavily and she was in her eighties.

On a side note, she went to the funeral of the shop assistant over a decade after the incident, but continued with the grudge anyway.

Comedy gold 🤣

My DGF fell out with his DB because of the latter's behaviour during the 1980s miner's strike. Brother crossed the picket line. That was the end of their relationship.

@Respectmyauthoritah

I was sent to the shop for a loaf of bread (over 33 years ago now) and was sold a mouldy, out of date loaf. My Dad marched me back to the shop and flung the bread at the shopkeeper called him a wanker and how dare he take advantage of children Confused

Since that day, my dad never set foot in that shop. It's been a computer repair shop, funeral parlour, nail bar and sandwich shop but he was mad at all of them "because the mini market owner was a cunt". My dad was a scary man so when he explained his bat shit reasoning to other people they would just nod in agreement and promise never to go in there.

@Respectmyauthoritah thjs is absolutely amazing😂

I am quite keen on family history and discovered a cousin of my Dads living close by. I thought Dad would be interested but he said he was “an arsehole at school and probably an arsehole now.” They are both in their 80s.
