Stop me if this is too exciting, but how do you store your interdental brushes?

You know, the teeny weeny ones the hygienist tells you to use?

Mine and DP’s always end up in this gross wet pile either around the sink or at the bottom of the toothbrush jar Envy (not envy).

What do you do?

I thought you were supposed to throw them away after one use. Mine usually bend and break after a single use. But if they don't, I sterilise them in a small shot glass with Steradent or mouthwash. Unused ones, I just keep in their packet in the bathroom cabinet. But even so I still find rogue ones hanging out in my make up bag Hmm and on the stand where I keep clean facecloths. They get about.

TheSmallAssassin · 04/04/2021 23:04

I leave mine to air and dry on the shelf by the side of my electric toothbrush. I use one for several weeks until it breaks. I pop the lid on.

WeAllHaveWings · 04/04/2021 23:08

My dentist said use 4-5 times then discard. I rinse/shake dry and put the little cap on and leave on the shelf above the sink.

VanGoghsDog · 04/04/2021 23:09

They have a cover that goes over them and I leave it in the soap dish.

SusannaMorvern · 04/04/2021 23:10

I have a lid, then it goes on the window sill.
Hijacking a little (sorry!). But does anyone have any suggestions for cheap enviromental brushes, I've tried supermarket ones and some appalling bamboo ones from Boots and they are all rubbish, keep ending up back with Teepee.

SusannaMorvern · 04/04/2021 23:11

*environmental

RavingAnnie · 04/04/2021 23:11

I store all my tooth brushing paraphernalia in a glass including interdental brushes with the brush bit poking over the rim of the glass so they air dry. I use mine for a week to two weeks.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 04/04/2021 23:13

I have a little glass dish from a Gu pudding and I keep them in there.

Rainallnight · 04/04/2021 23:21

I am loving these insights.

@RavingAnnie, don’t they fall down to the bottom of the glass? That’s always my problem.

I like the idea of a little Gu glass jar

I use a mouth guard case like this:
mouth guard case
Perfect size and easy to clean.

peachhouses · 05/04/2021 00:11

I know this isn’t the point of the thread but toothbrush mugs/glasses make me heave, all that mucky water gathering at the bottom Envy

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 05/04/2021 00:38

I poke it through the bristles of my toothbrush, which is stored (head up) in the jar.

Oh hold on a second, I can see where we are going wrong here...

I use the angled ones! They are longer - about half a toothbrush length. You are talking about the small straight ones. I can't use those and forgot they existed. Ignore me and carry on.....

I know you do have to clean them out daily.....My DH is less rigorous about his and honestly the pool of bacteria laden water it makes me want to vomit. He is disgusting.
Babyiwantabump · 05/04/2021 14:07

Sorry to hijack a thread but I have been thinking about using a water Pik instead - anyone have any insight? Are they recommended?

Dilbertian · 05/04/2021 14:11

I used to use Sandrena HRT gel, which came in little sachets. It also came with a little flip-top box with 7 little slots so you could load a week's worth of sachets into it.

I don't use that HRT any more but I still have a few of the boxes, and they are perfect for the interdental brushes. 3 or 4 fit into each slot. Keeps them dry, clean and unbent.

Dilbertian · 05/04/2021 14:16

You re-use them?!?!

I thought this was a question about how to store them once you've opened the packaging!

LouLou198 · 05/04/2021 14:17

Stood up in a tiny little tub, think it was one that came free with bottles that we stored milk powder in when we went out.

PiratePetespajamas · 05/04/2021 14:21

We have a Joseph Joseph toothbrush tidy that has 4 cubbies for brushes/paste, and a shallow tray on one side. We keep the interdental brushes in there. I mean, don’t get me wrong: there’s still potential for a gross little puddle of water but it’s not too awful most of the time.

Re environmental toothbrushes @SusannaMorvern we use www.bambooclub.co/ (sorry if that doesn’t create a hyperlink, no idea how to do that...). I think they’re great: sturdy, long lasting, handle doesn’t get gross (I expected it too). Would thoroughly recommend.

Yes, dentist told me they should last about a week. I use them every day so would cost a fortune if I only used them once!
Foxyloxy1plus1 · 05/04/2021 14:34

Mine are in their covers in a shot glass. Change them weekly.

Treeballarae · 05/04/2021 14:47

Ive got a couple of the tepe brush holders off Amazon, one for my long handled ones and one for the short ones

daisiesinmay · 05/04/2021 14:49

You can buy a little stand thing for them that holds 4

Rainallnight · 05/04/2021 14:54

@RavingAnnie, aha, I see why you mean. They’re easier to stand up.

Yes, @Dilbertian, you can definitely re-use them.

@PiratePetespajamas, sounds good, I’ll look into it Smile. I’m glad you get what I mean about the gross puddle!

@Babyiwantabump, my dentist told me that they’re used by people (like me!) who should floss more but don’t, and they don’t use the Waterpiks either Grin

I love using the water pik. So much easier than brushes once you have learned how not to spray your hair, face, the mirror etc.
