What family treat for £100?

ArwenTheGreat · 03/04/2021 11:41

An unexpected cheque landed on the doormat today for £100! We have not had any treats for ages as been paying off various bits and pieces before we buy a house together.

DP and I
2x 16yo
1x 14yo
1x 12yo
1x 6yo

Day out/takeaway from nice restaurant/activity?

Ideally something this weekend as we are all free!

What would you spend it on?

Really treaty takeaway or food delivery. Something like Nandos or Wagamama that would normally be too expensive for 7 of you.

Dozer · 03/04/2021 12:05

Food!

aibutohavethisusername · 03/04/2021 14:02

Waitrose or M&S posh food.

I'd go for the nice takeaway with a bottle of wine for you and DP. Most open day out places will probably be heaving on a bank holiday weekend with nice weather, can't see that being enjoyable.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 03/04/2021 14:20

I’d buy a subscription to something like Netflix and a few board games as not much open currently and days out don’t seem very appealing currently as still risky.

Stonecrop · 03/04/2021 14:23

How about a season ticket to a local attraction e.g gardens/aquarium etc?

Lurleene · 03/04/2021 14:26

National Trust membership? That is just over 100 for a family and you can use it for days out all year starting this weekend.

MsChatterbox · 03/04/2021 14:27

Definitely takeaway and a movie with extra snacks/dessert buffet! I think turbo would be a good movie you could all enjoy as I watched it in my 20s just fine! And would be fine for the 6yo.

jessstan2 · 03/04/2021 14:54

That's eight of you. If you are prepared to supplement the hundred pounds (whicn works out at £12.50 each), a meal out at a restaurant would be nice when we are allowed. Or a pub lunch over the weekend, somewhere with a good carvery.

jessstan2 · 03/04/2021 14:54

'which' not 'whicn'.

MaverickDanger · 03/04/2021 14:57

Order a nice local takeaway, a big bag of pic & mix online and maybe a brownie/cake box.

Assuming you already have Netflix/subscription service, you can then each pick a suitable film & draw it out of a hat.

dontgobaconmyheart · 03/04/2021 15:25

I'd probably get everyone together and ask them to submit their preferences. Explain that split between all of you it probably works out as a family splash out on takeaway or it could be used for something like NT or english heritage for the year or something doe the garden (sports kit, a swing ball etc).

Enjoy the treat!

@jessstan2 - someone's maths is wonky

jessstan2 · 03/04/2021 16:18

Who me? Very likely, never my strong point. I divided 100 by eight, will now do it again with calculator.

Done, the answer is 12.5 Confused. Isn't that what I said, £12.50? I'll check back in case I made a typo.

There's 7 of them, not 8 Wink
ElderMillennial · 03/04/2021 16:27

£100 isn't that much for 7 of you, a few of you who would presumably have adult sized food portions

I would go with a takeaway but maybe something from a nice restaurant rather than something you have all the time

Or you could go to somewhere like M&S and do a sort of bonus shop for nice food and treats, on top of your usual shop

Cakes and treats if there is a cake shop near you

SummerHouse · 03/04/2021 16:28

Hot tub hire?

BarbaraofSeville · 03/04/2021 16:32

National Trust membership would be a good call, albeit slightly more than £100, if you have sites you would visit nearby and it's something you're interested in as in it pays for admittance and parking for 2 adults and more than enough children to cover your family size - I think it's up to 6 DC, possibly more.

MM321 · 03/04/2021 16:35

Nice big family takeaway of your choice and I second someone else’s idea of big pick n mix! Highly recommend “Sweetzy” for pick n mix - I’ve just ordered some on their Easter offer. They do 1.75kg of pick n mix that you can choose yourself for £16.99 😊 code EASTERWEEKEND for 15% off and a free bag of cables - I’m sure it said it was on until Monday on my email 😊

jessstan2 · 03/04/2021 18:37

Oh blimey, I've just realised what you mean. There are seven people, not eight. I can see someone has said so above too. Do'h! I wonder why I said 8?

Anyway, that means £14.2857142857 each, a bit better.

Leeds2 · 03/04/2021 18:47

A waffle maker and/or chocolate fondue, with lots of fruit and ice cream and toppings.

wingsnthat · 03/04/2021 18:49

Where do you live? I’m in London and have top tier restaurants on deliveroo. But your family is large, would £100 feed 6 people at a “treat” sort of place?

Pinotwoman82 · 03/04/2021 18:49

Go ape?

wingsnthat · 03/04/2021 18:49

7* even

wingsnthat · 03/04/2021 18:50

£14 each is tight, you might be able to afford Nando’s
