For a 90 year old grandma who can't walk far, has poor eyesight for reading, won't eat anything unhealthy and who lives in a tiny flat with no room for anything? They already have two plants I bought them on the only available surfaces.
I can't think of anything Sad

A nice cashmere blanket? Or shawl?

MissyB1 · 02/04/2021 17:51

I remember when my mum got to o that stage she was very tricky to buy for - but at least she always ate cake and chocolate.

How about a new soft cushion, a cardigan, hand and body lotion, nice soap, perfume, slippers.

RuthW · 02/04/2021 17:53

One of those sequin cushions to can play with and change the colour

Workyticket · 02/04/2021 17:53

An Alexa so she can listen to audio books?

TheGirlWithGlassFeet · 02/04/2021 17:59

A frameless yankee candle or some kind of audio book/subscription.

TheGirlWithGlassFeet · 02/04/2021 17:59

*flameless

PandaBabyJuly · 02/04/2021 18:01

Slippers? Dressing gown? Pyjamas? A nice blanket

My nan always loved them lol as she was always cold

leopardprintpants · 02/04/2021 18:10

My little gran loved getting a new bed jacket from M&S every year

ismiseeire · 02/04/2021 18:12

An enlarged photo of you and your children and any great grandchildren? Framed.

Something commemorating the Queen in some way if she is British?
I would say the gift of time, but covid.
Could you book a cleaner for her if she doesn't already have that?
I've seen some people on this website getting afternoon tea delivered last Summer when we were out of lockdown.
One of those wind up musical jewellery boxes with a ballerina who dances when you open it up? I always coveted my mother's.

Mints
Werthers
A new table cloth for 'special occasions'
Handcream (my GM loved handcream)
Religious medals or similar
New 'absorbent' teatowels.

Flannels, brand new, washed and ironed.
A little face fan for coming into Summer
Phone calls or facetime
A walking aid
An alarm bell in case she falls over
Anything that furthers her freedom
Feather pillows or cushions to support her
I'm Irish and Catholic, so not sure if it's a thing in other Churches, but you can get what we call a 'mass card'. Give the priest a fiver and he'll pray for whoever you've intended it for at the next Mass.

Can you tell us more about her and we might be able to refine suggestions. Where is she from, where does she live, children, what she liked to do when younger, musical tastes, pets?

ismiseeire · 02/04/2021 18:14

Table cloth must be white with embroidery!

ShadowKitty · 02/04/2021 18:15

I bought an elderly relative some large print puzzle books - crosswords, word searches etc and they loved them. Depends on your eyesight obviously. I also got one of those bird feeders that sticks to the window so they could watch the birds.

So did mine! She had to look good in hospital in case the doctors thought low of her.
ColourfulElmerElephant · 02/04/2021 18:18

Does she want to read? A kindle has the facility to increase the font size to be really big.

ismiseeire · 02/04/2021 18:22

I actually want this, but I remember these sort of tea sets with my grandparents.

This one is very cheap but I'm sure you could rock up into the 100s for similar

My late grandmother converted to use of mugs for everyone bar herself. Till her dying day, she daintily sipped her tea out a china teacup. A mug was an abomination. She would actually feel sick having to drink out of a mug.

This is a super cool website

Have a look at Cologne and Cotton OP - lovely stuff and a variety of prices (small things like soaps etc)

Tootyfilou · 02/04/2021 18:36

@ismiseeire
Why do you assume she will want anything to commemorate the Queen!

popspops · 02/04/2021 19:00

I think so far it'll be the puzzle books. She wouldn't want anything like cups as she uses mugs and has plenty, she's not going to want any ornaments. She's getting rid of stuff as much as she can as she wants space. I like the idea of a cashmere blanket but it's not really the right time of year. She has a cleaner and I do all her shopping already and clean her windows (ground floor thankfully!).

She's not a typical 90 year old grandma, she's fiercely independent, she travelled widely and was one of the head midwives in her late 20s.

Because I'm Irish and not British lol. Most elderly British people love the Queen.

Well now that you've told us more about her.....
ismiseeire · 02/04/2021 19:12

I'll just back my uneducated Irish ass out of this thread..

AliceMcK · 02/04/2021 19:16

The Alexa sounds good, if my Nan was still around she’d love one of those for music and books. The shawl/blenkey idea is also nice. I would never buy my Nan clothes, underwear or slippers unless she gave me precise instructions of where I was buying from and what I was getting, she had certain things she liked and wouldn’t accept anything but those.

What about a digital photo frame, scan all her old photos and have it running for her x

ismiseeire · 02/04/2021 19:22

Too cute to ignore this little shoulder cardigan

Possibly a practical contenter warm bed cardigan thing
