What buggers up your weight loss plans??

partyatthepalace · 30/03/2021 21:27

I REALLY need to loose some weight. What’s happened before is I get going - all good - then I derail myself by making super shit decisions, like eating endless takeaways when I’m doing horrendous hours. This time, I am trying to think of the bumps I will hit in advance so I can plan for them - but I don’t think I’m even aware of the half of it, so I’d love to know what other people think knackers it for them - and maybe we can exchange learning points?!

Periods.
Lockdown boredom - I didn't to sit home alone and eat during weekends!

MadMadMadamMim · 30/03/2021 22:01

@BarryTheChopper Grin

My ex once said that if I had a slogan it should be If a thing's worth doing, it's worth over-doing!

I'm like you with the all or nothing, bit.

chelle862 · 30/03/2021 22:01

My husband bringing home Easter eggs. All the Easter eggs. The baby can't eat them so I have to Grin

partyatthepalace · 30/03/2021 22:04

I have been thinking to myself why is this so fucking hard, but there are so many gremlins jumping up to bite us on the bum aren't there -

@BarryTheChopper @MadMadMadamMim - the fuck it force is powerful in me too - co-op coming onto deliveroo has been fatal - chocolate fingers and cheese and icecream to my door in 10 mins flat.

@WellTidy @CaptainCarp proximity is a real problem, especially the coffee shops with muffins the size of your head

@TheChild @DuvetNPillow - stress is a killer, lack of sleep makes it double deadly I think

@CarnationCat @BoomTastic1 - it is really hard to plan, but be flexible enough, when dealing with all the shit of life

@LunaNorth - congratulations! That is epic

This is going to be a longer list that I thought...

Alcohol. Just one glass and my will power is over the hill and far away and the toaster comes out.
FieldOverFence · 30/03/2021 22:05

Hunger, portion control, mostly
Also injuries that prevent me doing exercise, and then make me wary when I restart

partyatthepalace · 30/03/2021 22:07

@WeatherwaxLives carbs are a killer, if you get a few good ones liked up, they so helpfully deliver suger-fat, salt-fat, sugar-fat, salt-fat - and I think because it's different taste buds it's easy to just keep going, each craving sets off the other -

@chelle862 at least you have a good man (and chocolate)

Bugger, don't know why I quoted that about periods! I passed the menopause bloody years ago. Grin

muffindays · 30/03/2021 22:08

Alcohol, and other people, e.g. socialising
Lack of sleep
Stress and having too much to do
Being around temptation (a difficult one!! e.g. if you have family members who have junk food in the house)
Fussy kids and their beige diets!! (Being around carbs more than I would like).
Not setting strong enough restrictions. Apparently diets work best if you set clear regular limits about days / times you're allowed treats e.g. no carbs monday to friday, or chocolate on saturdays only. (This kind are apparently better than one day a week I'm allowed xxx because it's too fuzzy!).
Emotional issues

partyatthepalace · 30/03/2021 22:11

@FieldOverFence yes, and it is frustrating because I do think once exercise starts mood does lift - I fucked up my knee running when I was too overweight - it's not really painful but it's achy and I think the frustration leads to eating

@thenightsky it absolutely does - and I think that like a lot of people who don't drink a lot a lot, I underestimate that. One jolly weekend can be enough to unleash a real fuck it patch

partyatthepalace · 30/03/2021 22:13

@muffindays that's interesting about restrictions to certain time slots - because I think I (and a lot of people) are sometimes too strict - which encourages all or nothing, but it's hard to manage being flexible... has restricting treat time slots worked for you?

Eating too much food

CodMouth · 30/03/2021 22:19

Crisps
Beer
Cake.

LolaNova · 30/03/2021 22:20

I just really like biscuits 😬

muffindays · 30/03/2021 22:20

@partyatthepalace I'm new to the concept to be honest!! So will be implementing from this week onwards.

Maybe it might help to start with slightly more periods for junk food worked in, then tighten up to have less periods when you're more used to it. For example, Mondays and Weds for first month are "good days". Then the following month, Mondays, Weds, and Thursdays. If you find it too strict then you could play about a bit. But apparently what is best is the clear very set days and times.

Someone shared this with me the other day which explains the concept more if you're interested. Worth a try at least. I'm going to try it myself from this week!!

muffindays · 30/03/2021 22:22

Also I realise maybe the word "restrictions' was the wrong one. Maybe limits or time zones would be better. Restrictions implies strict food rules, but if you're allowing bad foods sometimes then it doesn't have to be strict, just within a timed window rather.

aibutohavethisusername · 30/03/2021 22:22

Poor mental health
Stress
Laziness
Working in a supermarket and seeing all of the food.

partyatthepalace · 30/03/2021 22:28

@CodMouth @LolaNova @aibutohavethisusername seeing all of the food all of the time is a problem - I just don't think we were designed to have that much discipline around food. There is an American researcher who has data that people who have cereal visible on the kitchen eat more than those who don't - so I've started putting stuff away much more, and also putting vegetables and salad in the middle of the fridge, and cheese and meat etc in the salad draw.

@muffindays thank you very much, I will have a watch (tomorrow AM because I am now going to go to bed because I think lack of sleep is a big part of my oh-so-easy-to-derail persona)

Me.

Food.

DragonPoop · 30/03/2021 22:32

Not meal planning in advance,
Not having easy to grab healthy snacks/lunches,
Not having things that are quick and easy to cook when I can’t be bothered to spend too long in the kitchen,
Not having variety in my planned meals- eg different cuisines, accidentally having too many chicken based meals in a row etc

partyatthepalace · 30/03/2021 22:33

@Derrymum123 @CommanderBurnham that is it in two nutshells...

The staff room.
It is constantly rammed with donuts, biscuits, cake, sweets. It seems like it’s always someone’s birthday and there are chocolates to share or cheese and biscuits.
And I just can’t say no.

partyatthepalace · 30/03/2021 22:35

@DragonPoop yes! I am away with work right now, and it's like it's raining chicken, and also yes, I always shop as future-me, when I will be arsed to cook for 45 mins when I come in from work, despite 20 years powerful evidence to the contrary (I love your username BTW)

OP posts:
partyatthepalace · 30/03/2021 22:39

@ShirazSavedMySanity it's a modern plague - in my company we have one office where there is tea and coffee and that's it, and another where a tsunami of wagon wheels, muesli bars and mini twixes hits you whenever you open a cupboard - and once you have one - then the sugar gets you in it's grip and that's it, you spend the rest of the day with chocolate on your teeth. I think that there actually should be a campaign to Make Offices a Biscuit Free Zone - it would probably leave Jamie Oliver standing -
