Do You Do Much For Easter?

EternalOptimist7 · 28/03/2021 15:09

Again I am letting magazines full of decorations, recipes etc for Easter get to me too much. I feel guilty that I don’t decorate the house. DD12 isn’t interested in crafts this year really & has said she doesn’t want an egg hunt. I have bought lamb for the Sunday but rump steaks rather than a joint as DD won’t eat it. She has asked for pick & mix instead of an egg. DH & I will have a big bar of chocolate each. I have the whole weekend off except working 4 hours on Easter Saturday. I doubt we’ll do much as DD spends a lot of time in her room. Hopefully we can persuade her to come out for a picnic & we’ll do a BBQ if the weather’s fine ☀️

Yep, family and friends will send an egg each for the children (nothing ott, just a normal sized Easter egg) and I buy them an egg each and extra Easter themed treats so I always do a hunt around the house with all that on the Sunday morning. My sister and I (us our families) normally go to my parents for a roast and mum insists on doing a huge egg hunt in her garden. The kids always look forward to doing that with their cousins. Obviously plans are scaled back this year so we’re having roast pork/chicken cobs and roast potatoes in the garden instead.

We’re not religious but it’s a nice reason to get the family together.

No decorating or themed plates etc but we might bake Easter biscuits if the lids fancy it.

Nothing apart from Easter eggs.

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 28/03/2021 16:00

Very little other than hot cross buns and a chocolate Easter bunny or egg. It is a religious festival after all, not one followed by non-believers in the way Christmas is.

Norwaydidnthappen · 28/03/2021 16:02

We do an egg hunt every year and this year we’re going to stay at FIL’s house by the sea (he’s away on business so house is empty), I’m rather excited to get away! I always make bunny shaped pancakes for breakfast and a Sunday roast. Nothing spectacular really, we’re going on a National trust egg hunt tomorrow as well.

Dressinggownchic · 28/03/2021 16:04

I think I probably go a bit OTT.

Decorations
Egg hunt
New clothes for each child
Small toy for DD9
Easter lunch with nice table setting
Eggs for parents, nicest, nephews, friends kids and elderly neighbour. Blush

MysweetAudrina · 28/03/2021 16:05

I bought a little stuffed bunny yesterday and I bought a little egg tree last year. Picked up some new cushion covers and a house plant yesterday just to mark the change in time. Have some eggs for next week and will probably cook a roast. Looking forward to the few days off work.

Easter egg hunt Pick daffodils in the park Paint hard boiled eggs Make cards to send to grannies and grandpas Bake a cake and decorate with mini eggs and chenille chicks Make chocolate cornflake nests with mini eggs Learn about the Easter story

All the same things I did as a child. I like the tradition.

You can't pick daffodils in the park, it's not your personal garden.

Don’t pick the daffodils in the park, they aren’t there for you to pick.

Only in so far it's a few days off so we can see family who live quite a way away.

None of the trappings though. Last year it went un-marked and this year I've invited the children for lunch in the garden. If the weather is bad we'll just cancel.

ilovebagpuss · 28/03/2021 16:11

It was never made much of growing up in my family but we did have an Easter egg. Always had a Sunday roast so no difference there.
I do an Easter egg hunt for my DD’s and even though they are getting older they will still happily rummage through the garden for them.
We might bake some Easter nest cakes or something that’s it. Don’t let the mags get to you just do what you and your little family are happy with.
It’s been blown up to be like Christmas In the media but really most people have an Easter egg and might have a family lunch in different times.

IggyAce · 28/03/2021 16:12

We have a twiggy tree which the dcs decorate with a few themed decorations that I’ve picked up over the last few years. We do an egg hunt round the garden on Easter Sunday. They get a large egg from us, however this year teen dd requested a box of Lindt.
We also have fish & chips on good Friday.

MaidEdithofAragon · 28/03/2021 16:15

Posh breakfast with decorated table. Easter eggs. Roast lamb later on. When the children were little we went to church too.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 28/03/2021 16:18

When we were children we used to paint hard-boiled eggs, then go on a picnic - rolling the eggs was part of the picnic. We got chocolate eggs from parents/grandparents.

Just me and DP, so we will have chocolate eggs, and a roast on Sunday. I also associate Easter with daffodils so have bunches all over the house - from M&S, not picked from parks. We’re in Scotland and the thing I am most excited about is getting my hair cut on Easter Monday! (It’s not a bank holiday here.)

EssexLioness · 28/03/2021 16:27

I can’t believe some people think it’s ok to nick daffodils from the park. They aren’t yours - they are there for everyone. If more people did this then there wouldn’t be any for others to enjoy. Such entitled behaviour

Good Friday - always have hot cross buns.
Easter Sunday we always do a nicer Sunday dinner than normal, usually some expensive lamb. I also get out our Easter table decorations that I got from a fab shop called Tchibo about 10 years ago.

EssexLioness · 28/03/2021 16:43

@allthecarrotcake yeah maybe it is boring but I’m obviously not alone in my view as several people have commented. It’s a pretty scummy thing to do. They cost £1 in most supermarkets, and if you can’t afford that then do without like many of us have had to do.

We are Catholic so as a kid we always observed Lent, usually by cutting out chocolate for 6 weeks. That first bite of Easter egg was heaven! There was always a big build up at school with plays, Mass, and we learned all the background about Passover too. During Holy Week we would go to the Stations of the Cross, where you say the rosary for Jesus. We would go to Mass at least once over the weekend usually Easter Sunday but sometimes the Saturday vigil or additionally on Good Friday.
Don't do as much of the church stuff now but I will do a roast, we have eggs, and kids have learned about Easter at their Catholic school. I'll put a few decorations up this week, just things the kids have made though.

Embroideredstars · 28/03/2021 16:52

I loved Easter as a kid, we went to church/sunday school and had chocolate eggs and often had family over but never decorated house etc.

As an adult, pre kids, I used to bring in forsythia from the garden and hang eggs and decorations on it. There were a few in gift/craft shops but not like it is now in the supermarkets. When kids were young they had a little egg hunt but they wont want that now as similar age to yours op.

You shouldn't feel pressured op, it's only a thing if you wan it to be. I quite like my Easter decs (the kids have never been bothered about them or xmas for that matter !) but I won't probably et them out this year as doing DIY. It has become massive in shops now but I think the lockdown last year has prompted retailers to do much more in the way of crafts, gifts and decorations as a way to cheer people up, give kids something to do and make the best of a rubbish time, whilst making money too of course!! Wink

If your family arent bothered dont stress yourself, if people see it as a treat during a rough time let them get on with it, like everything else in life.

Although no picking public flowers! Shock

BackforGood · 28/03/2021 16:58

No.
Last year (on MN) was the first time I had even heard of the concept of 'decorating' for Easter.
We don't usually have a big lunch even as usually most of family will be away on one camp or another, taking advantage of a 4 day weekend.

When they were young, the dc would get eggs from Grandparents and Aunts / Uncles, and we would deliver eggs to them, but that's as far as it goes, except for additional Church services, as obviously it is a very important part of the Christian year.

pollylocketpickedapocket · 28/03/2021 17:06

Cook a nice fish dinner on good Friday, I’ve got a few Easter decs and plates etc. Dd gets 3 eggs off me but we haven’t got a massive family to buy for her. I got her a huge amount of craft stuff and a bunny soft toy and bunny pjs. I’ll do a little egg hunt for her.
