Fed up of greasy kitchen. Will an air fryer help?

I have DCs who cook for themselves and they do seem to like a frying pan! The kitchen is getting generally greasy and not just from splatters. It seems to be from the air. Would an air fryer help?

Would they use it though? I have a hairy biker grill and thats good. Less grease as it drips into a tray

They would if I took the frying pans awayWinkSmile
I have a Gorge Foreman but the worst culprit is the veggie one who seems to eat fried fake bacon for every flipping meal.

An air fryer is just a small oven with a fan in it. Literally that is all it is. and you still have to clean out the tray bit and it still gets grease spattered all inside.

Right so that means there'll be greasy air coming out of that then?Sad

I think the problem you have is not actually the air as air is usually clean believe it or not. But the problem is from your oil and I think a damp cloth mop and jif would probably help more than an air fryer

I don't mind cleaning the thing or having the DCs do it if that means my kitchen isn't sticky.

There you go then there's your answer

Oversize · 21/03/2021 20:15

Sorry to be dim but do you mean - yes, an air fryer would stop your kitchen getting greasy but you'd have to clean the air fryer?

I grew up allowed to use my mothers kitchen but the deal was we had to leave it clean and tidy. Don't allow people to leave a greasy residue on surfaces.

Oh, how I wish DH had been taught this lesson. He loves to cook but honestly ...

They do clear up after themselves, obviously. It not reasonable to be cleaning the kettle, toaster, windowsill, top of kitchen cupboards etc whenever they've made a meal that involves frying.

Prevention is the thing I'm after here and that's what my post is asking about.Smile

Your kitchen won't get greasy from an air fryer, and it doesn't smell very greasy either but you will still have to clean the grease that drips from the food into the tray in the air fryer. I love mine and use it multiple times a day and bacon tastes great out of it and no splatters.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 21/03/2021 20:27

Which veggie bacon?

GrumpyHoonMain · 21/03/2021 20:27

You need a powerful extractor fan and to clean the kitchen thoroughly after every use to prevent the fat from solidifying. In terms of products Elbow Grease is really good - seems to just melt fat away even from tile

GrumpyHoonMain · 21/03/2021 20:28

Even from grout. Not tile lol

Great! Thanks so much speachy. I'll get one. Seems a promising solution.Smile

Viv Era plant bacon pieces are in favour at the moment Jay. I don't get involved as they're adults. It stinks to high heaven though.
Once I've got a fryer installed, we'll have a degreasing session with that Elbow Grease then Grumpy 💪

What sort of extractor hood do you have?

OP posts:
PigletJohn · 21/03/2021 21:30

and does it suck air and push it outside through a duct in the wall?

That's an effective way to get rid of hot fat haze.

Oversize · 21/03/2021 21:33

Yep.
I suppose a first thing to do would be to check that it's all working properly.Smile

A splatterguard on the frying pan could really help.

Oversize · 21/03/2021 22:05

Yup just checked. The extractor is working nicely. 2 of them were cooking as I was checked and were fully on board with the air fryer so that's the next step I think.

I fear it might have been installed as a recirculator.

HotCrossBumsticks · 22/03/2021 10:26

Bloody love my airfryer, use it every single day. Great way for teens to cook for themselves too.
