Do you prefer books or a kindle?

I just love books. I have a kindle which is great for holidays and I tend to get 99p offers on it.

I love seeing a bookcase full of books and I like the smell, feel and anticipation when I get a new 'proper' book.

Trying to be more minimalistic and not buy things but I can't help it with books. A day out in Waterstones with a coffee will be my ultimate pleasure when I can go. I know it is open but I want ' the whole experience'. 😬

Just wondering if any book lovers prefer reading on the kindle? It annoys me that I can't flick back to a page!

Even my kids prefer books and won't read on the kindle so I am not sure if it necessarily a generation thing!

I have returned properly awful ones but I feel a bit of a fraud doing it too often so I tend not to! If they don't mind though maybe I'll do that a bit more.

I do miss browsing in bookshops, but can't do that often anyway as I live abroad and there aren't many English bookshops here.

The 99p offers aren't bad :)

Kindle I love it means I can read whatever I want in easy font 15 words per page and have 100s of books.

Oh yes I do quite like the "X hours/minutes" left feature. Although it makes me a bit anxious when I realise I don't have long to go :o

Depends what for. Kindle is great for holiday or commuting and you can read really long books on it without having to carry around a doorstop. Was absolutely a boon while breastfeeding as well!

But they are frustrating if there are diagrams or maps or other things you want to flick back to, as that doesn't work so well. Also, I still bring an 'emergency paper book' on holiday in case of kindle fault - I think I'm on my 4th one now, they don't seem that resilient.

I read about 70% kindle, 30% paper at them moment, id say.

I'm a both sort of person. Kindle for reading to sleep with as that doesn't hurt my hand. Book for reading on the sofa.

I love my kindle and I subscribe to kindle unlimited I read in bed every night and it's easy to read laying down on my side !!
But I also like a book as I read them in the bath ....

I converted to a kindle and never looked back.

So much less clutter, no hoping the charity shop will take the books after they have been read, no delivery to wait for or packaging needed.

Kindle - I love that if I am not familiar with a word I can just tap it and discover the meaning. My memory is not good so being able to tap a characters name to remind myself who they are is fab. Can't read a real book in bed as it wakes DH up, the books I like tend to run to many pages which I find uncomfortable to hold in bed also.
That being said, If I fall in love with a book on kindle I will buy the real thing, as it feels more tangible somehow. Also I don't find I remember the author or title so well when I don't have the physical book to read - don't retain it so well. Somehow having a physical book makes the read a more memorable experience.
I love getting to the end of a book on kindle and seconds later have the next in the series even if it's 2.00am.

I have Samsung tablet and download books from the public library.

Kindle

I love reading. Absolutely adore it.

I absolutely hate the feel of paper in my hands as I am reading. I hate the texture, I hate the smell. I have other sensory issues.

I was an early Kindle adopter and I never looked back.

Hydrate · 20/03/2021 04:51

Yes! I have hand pain holding books often, oten hurts my neck and my eyes too. I have the library app on my phone as well as my tablet, which is usually how I listen to the audio version. I prefer reading on the tablet though. The audio books are great when sick in bed and light hurt my eyes. I have to say, I am greatful for on-line resources.

*grateful

Yes! That is something I hadn't realised when I first got my Kindle. Quite a few times over the summer I finished a book whilst lounging in my hammock and got the next one without leaving that hammock. As a fast and avid reader, it's bliss.

ArmchairTraveller · 20/03/2021 08:22

Kindle for fiction.
I have a lot of non-fiction in book form.

PickAChew · 20/03/2021 08:23

I struggle with holding a book open and my eyesight is getting old - even with glasses I appreciate being able to enlarge text on my kindle.

Anything with diagrams or that I wouldn't want to read in page order is much better in a real book, though.

Daisy829 · 20/03/2021 08:26

Books although I have a kindle too which is good for hols & reading late when it’s dark. I also like that I can pass books on to people when I’ve finished.

DipSwimSwoosh · 20/03/2021 08:30

Kindle. It's easy, light, don't have to store anything anywhere.

dazzlingdeborahrose · 22/03/2021 14:05

Both. A real book at home. It's the smell, the feel, the ritual of turning the pages and using bookmarks. Fir travelling and holidays, kindle all the way. I can carry a library with me.
