Does anyone else feel a bit jealous about some of their mates getting their Covid vaccines already. I’m in group 9 and at least 4 of my friends, also in group 9 but younger than me, have had or booked in for their jab. I’m a bit pissed off we all live near each other and as far as I know none of us have underlying or other issues, is it just different surgeries. We all have different dr surgery’s and that is how they have been called for it.I thought we waited for a letter, don’t we?

Don't let this get to you, your time will come. When I had mine there were many people there obviously decades younger than me.

Perhaps be grateful you are in group 9 (whatever that is) and so have had a far less anxious/vulnerable year than everyone else in the groups above you.

bagginses · 16/03/2021 19:58

How old are you? The NHS website is letting 50+ book today.

00100001 · 16/03/2021 19:59

You'll get your first jab by end if July.

Be patient. There's millions of people to get through :)

@bagginses I just looked and the NHS website is still saying available to over 55’s only?

bagginses · 16/03/2021 20:01

Yes- it often takes a few days to catch up. Have you tried?

Sootybear · 16/03/2021 20:01

I got a text message from my surgery on Monday and booked that day. My friend who is older hasn't heard yet. You will be contacted. Some surgeries are a bit behind others, maybe depending on the age of most of their patients?

That page isn't updated as quickly as the data that feeds the list of eligible patients! Keep checking!

GCAcademic · 16/03/2021 20:02

You may not necessarily know if someone has an underlying condition. I had no idea I was in group 6, until I was invited to book last week. It's not a condition that affects me in day to day life, so hardly anyone knows about it, but it could be an issue with Covid.

TheRealCherHorowitz · 16/03/2021 20:03

It’s still saying over 55s on www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/ but I’m sure it’ll change to over 50s very soon Smile

Umbivalent · 16/03/2021 20:03

Are they doing groups still? I thought it was by age now.

No. I know I'm low risk and that's why I'm bottom of the pile. I'm thankful that I'm low risk and I carry on with my life knowing that the moment my letter arrives comes closer with each day that passes.

bagginses · 16/03/2021 20:08

We have had several over 50-year-old staff manage to book today so worth a try 🤞🏻

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 16/03/2021 20:09

It has dropped to 50 plus - they never update it quickly. Why would you wait for your GP to contact you unless you are in group 6. GP’s are not doing most people. Go via the website

PoptartPoptart · 16/03/2021 20:18

@bagginses I just tried and it worked!
Thank you so much!

bagginses · 16/03/2021 20:19

Excellent Star

LollipopViolet · 16/03/2021 20:19

Everyone else in my house has now had their first dose, my mum has had both doses (she's a nurse). I'm an unpaid carer but as my GP hasn't noted me as one, I can't book yet, which is frustrating.

I know I'll get mine, but it is tough. I get it, but as others have said, we'll get there.

Knittingnanny · 16/03/2021 20:24

I’m 64 and only had mine last week. My surgery is still on the group above me ( 18-64 with underlying health issues) so would have ages before my turn
So I booked via the nhs website and went to the mass vaccination centre about 15 miles away.
One of my friends is 55 and her surgery is on that group already so she had hers before me.

bagginses · 16/03/2021 20:25

Have you tried booking online rather than wait for GP? It gives you the option to tick unpaid carer, then a criteria that you say yes or no to then let’s you book if you answer how they want. I think it asks if the person you are a carer for is CEV and what sort of care you do for them.
If you have tried this already- apologies, otherwise worth a shot I say!

Sorry- this was for lollipopViolet. Forgot to quote 😁
InfoInfoInfo · 16/03/2021 20:32

Nope, not jealous about older people and not jealous about people that are clinically extremely vulnerable.... why would I be?

Goldieloxx · 16/03/2021 20:33

You can't actually do anything once you've had it so what difference does it make, just wait it out

This is my issue - the person I care for isn't classed as CEV but requires 24/7 care, the other issue is, I essentially cover days when my mum is at work, so that my CEV grandmother isn't doing it all alone. Example: yesterday I finished working at 5pm (at home) and was then doing routine bits and bobs that mum would do, until she got in at 8.45. This weekend I'll be helping from 7am to again, 8.30/8.45 both days. So I'm not classed as a carer by anyone. I don't want to risk booking, being turned away and wasting a vaccine, so I'll wait and hope the nurse who came to do the jab for the person I care for, can have a word with the surgery to see if they'll put me as a carer on my records. If not, hopefully they get to the 30+ group soon. Thank you for replying though, I appreciate the advice.
DinosaurDiana · 17/03/2021 07:59

You need to register at your GP as a carer.
You will also be entitled to an annual flu jab.

Tried to do that, receptionist basically said they can't because I don't claim Carers Allowance.

Just so frustrating. I know I'll get one, eventually, and it's a blessing I'm not at high risk, but I just feel a bit forgotten because of my particular situation :(

DinosaurDiana · 17/03/2021 17:48

That’s rubbish. My DH doesn’t claim CA either, his mother claims it to pay for carers.
Try again.
