Who's booked their 2021 hols?

And how many of you are going abroad?

We had 2 weeks in the Caribbean booked in October and I was going to wait until then but.....have just caved in and booked a week in Greece at the end of June as well. Was torn between waiting to see what happens and being worried that prices would go up drastically when things become more certain.

Was just interested to see what others have done?

In-laws live in Spain and we have flights booked end of May and July to go and see them.
I doubt the May ones will go ahead.
I’m long haul cabin crew and have still been flying all over everywhere for the last year, so I’m less nervous than some about travelling abroad right now.

Loveatortie · 16/03/2021 20:38

Only place I'm going this year is to visit my family who live about 400 miles away in the same country. Haven't seen them for 15 months, next year, maybe go to a different country. Not that fussed.

Puntosareus · 16/03/2021 20:43

We have a couple of UK holidays booked and a break to Center Parcs which has been rearranged 3 times. Holidays abroad can wait until next year

@Oblomov21

Runnerdown:

"Hopefully by next year most people will be vaccinated ( and I hope the richer countries will support poorer countries in getting vaccines to do this) and the pandemic will be coming to an end.
I’d prefer to have this country open for business all summer with no further waves than go on a summer holiday ."

Vaccination will be offered to all uk adults by July 21, the government announced this month, bought forward from September 21.

And they will announce a date that international travel will be allowed shortly.

So your prediction of ' I'd rather have the uk open is gloom-mongering and trying to spread anxiety, when in actual fact the lifting of limits which has already started is part of the government's plans to reopen.

I’m not gloom-mongering. Or trying to spread anxiety. I’m saying I’m optimistic about the Summer we can potentially have in the U.K. I would be delighted if all adults have the vaccine by July but not everyone will take the vaccine. I just don’t want to risk other variants being introduced from other countries. People in those countries won’t necessarily be vaccinated and coronavirus will still be circulating .

That’s my opinion . I think lots of people travelling abroad is reckless and selfish . And the economic arguments can be made both ways. If the pandemic is prolonged money continues to be lost.
But glad that folks know what I’m thinking better than I do myself

Alfaix · 17/03/2021 04:37

Glamping in May, Norfolk in August
We have a fortnight off in July and really want sunshine but not booked yet. Waiting to see where we can go easily. DH and I will be fully vaccinated but DS is only 9.

Bigoldmachine · 17/03/2021 05:56

Wish we could afford it, or any kind of holiday (income decimated by covid restrictions). If we had the ££ I think we’d book UK.

Theredjellybean · 17/03/2021 06:06

Booked.. Greece in August, Canada in December, and Easter skiing for next Yr.
Prices already going through the roof.. We looked at canaries for Oct half term and flights were topping £800 per person and there is eight of us travelling.so that's not happening!

LongIslandIcedT · 17/03/2021 06:08

I have a week in Cornwall booked due my best mates wedding there in Aug. We have nothing planned for the next few years, instead decided to improve our home.

ChameleonClara · 17/03/2021 06:12

Let's have a bit of doom & gloom eh @Kitkat151. Like we don't have enough already. This kind of comment is unnecessary, the covid restrictions potentially in place in other countries, as mentioned by @Kitkat151 is something that I am considering. Personally this year feels a bit soon, as everywhere else is behind in vaccinations so could have any level of restrictions. I'm just too tired to bother with it all this year!

JengaNonConfirming · 17/03/2021 06:13

I've got 2 holidays booked. A week in Copenhagen in July, with my daughter. Cheap flights and Air B&B, which can be cancelled up to 2 weeks before. We've already had our first jsbs.
Then 2 weeks in September, in the Dominican Republic.
Looking forward to both and feeling hopeful that they'll happen. We have to start moving around at some point!

Lostinspace23 · 17/03/2021 06:15

Nope, nothing booked beyond a couple of UK weekends away. Desperate to travel abroad but will have to wait as I’m pregnant and it feels too risky. Plan to spend a good deal of time at a family holiday home on the North Yorkshire coast as it is free and easy. Might start booking things for 2022 as really feeling the need to have a holiday to look forward to!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 17/03/2021 06:37

I've got two trips to Greece booked (Mainland Greece and Crete) to visit my family.

I managed to get away to see them last year, and while there were restrictions in place (curfews mainly as a few outbreaks on the mainland had been caused by bouzouki clubs) it was so much more enjoyable than being here.
I've been put off uk breaks for this year as I work bloody hard so want to enjoy my time off and the lack of spontaneity in this country at the minute just sucks all the fun out of it.

GonnaBeYoniThisChristmas · 17/03/2021 06:47

Overseas hol booked for June.

I’m pretty confident travel will be ok by then - yes it will involve testing etc but manageable.

We’ve got to learn to live with Covid. Other countries will have wildly differing approaches to vaccine programmes. It would be years to truly KNOW it’s “safe” to travel. It’s a risk assessment as it’s always been.

ChocOrange1 · 17/03/2021 07:01

We have booked a caravan for April, and camping in June and July. I haven't booked anything abroad but not really due to covid, we can't afford to go abroad anyway and neither of the kids have passports.

gollymissdolly · 17/03/2021 12:35

Not booking anything overseas for this year.
Have booked a cottage in Scotland at the end of July and a cottage in Wales in September.

tinytemper66 · 17/03/2021 13:23

Our holiday to Italy is a rebooking from last August. I have resigned myself to not going as Italy is going through a bad patch again. I should be vaccinated fully by then as my husband and I are being vaccinated with the first dose today and tomorrow!
However we will be cautious and either cancel or move the holiday to next year if there are any issues.

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 17/03/2021 13:28

A couple of trips to the Lakes and then the whole of August we’ll be in Spain, and I can’t wait!

fingers crossed

MrsJBaptiste · 17/03/2021 13:34

Just booked flights to our apartment in Spain in June 😁 🛫 ☀️

Xiaoxiong · 17/03/2021 15:24

Cornwall in mid-April and May half term. Tickets for the States in August to see family we haven't seen in two years now. Fully prepared to cancel or change dates on anything if circumstances change.

Have yet to book anything for October or Christmas.

FuckingFabulous · 17/03/2021 15:26

Campsite in Cornwall in August. Turkey in October- that was moved from last year and honestly, I'm crossing my fingers that they move it again

Lunariagal · 17/03/2021 15:34

Week in Wales in August.

Not brave enough to book abroad.

What I have done for the 1st time for a UK holiday is got travel insurance, so if we can't travel due to either having it or self isolation, then we're covered.

Most uk holiday companies will only let you rebook/ refund if there's a travel ban. Best £30 ever spent.

Corcory · 17/03/2021 23:40

Booked to take our caravan up the west coast of Scotland in July for two weeks. No intention of going abroad this year. I actually don't understand how people think they are going to be able to go if they haven't had both their vaccines.

Bloodybridget · 18/03/2021 01:50

We have a booking for a sc week in Scotland in July, carried over from last year, which I hope will go ahead. I've just booked a couple of nights in a hotel in Norfolk for late May - can't wait to get out of London, and read about places getting booked up very fast, so thought I'd get in quickly! We can cancel almost up to the last minute if necessary. And I'm hoping to have a holiday in Austria in the autumn, all by rail; I don't want to fly this year. This will be dependent on my health, as much as the pandemic.

garlictwist · 18/03/2021 05:33

Booked a week in Dorset in April. I am so excited - I haven't had a week off work, nor gone anywhere since 2019! Really hoping it actually happens.

Will probably do a few long weekends in Scotland over the summer as well but that will be just last minute when the weather's good and camping so impromptu.

Not going abroad. Everything I had booked in 2020 was cancelled and I lost money, so not taking the risk again. And I also don't think I'll have been vaccinated any time soon so don't want to risk getting covid in another country.
