Who's booked their 2021 hols?

And how many of you are going abroad?

We had 2 weeks in the Caribbean booked in October and I was going to wait until then but.....have just caved in and booked a week in Greece at the end of June as well. Was torn between waiting to see what happens and being worried that prices would go up drastically when things become more certain.

Was just interested to see what others have done?

Booked Spain in August - can’t wait. Life has to restart sometime and this includes travel! Travel around this country without 100% of people being vaccinated (which is humanly not possible given children arent getting the vaccine) surely has a level of risk of a variant (especially as we are placing it under so much pressure with the vaccine roll out)

@PradaBallbag - couldn’t agree more! There are actually (google estimates) 1.4 million people in this country who work in the travel industry who will be very pleased people are booking! It’s not my place to tell them they can’t earn a living or put a roof over their families heads!

Ellybeee · 16/03/2021 17:17

Havent booked anything yet, but would love to go to Greece at the end of summer

IndiaMay · 16/03/2021 17:29

Not yet but we normally only book 11 weeks before anyway to get the best deals. We went away for 2 weeks last year to Greece and was lovely. As if I'm staying at home when I no longer need to. A lot of martyrs on here cutting off their nose to spite their face.

Only in the UK. Abroad doesn't interest me at all this year.

yearinyearout · 16/03/2021 17:30

Have a couple of UK holidays booked. I might look at booking abroad for sept/Oct if things are looking ok but will wait and see...no school age kids to worry about so we can go fairly last minute.

Sn0tnose · 16/03/2021 17:32

We’ve got a U.K. break booked for December. I wouldn’t be completely shocked if we had to rearrange. During the summer we’ll hopefully be up and down to family in Wales and doing lots of day trips. Neither of us feel particularly comfortable going abroad this year.

RunnerDown · 16/03/2021 17:43

@MrsMalcolmFuckingTucker

Me!!! I have a caravan holiday booked, a trip to Centerparcs, a (very optimistic!) holiday to America and a week in Spain for some winter sun. I’m under no illusions that the holidays abroad may not go ahead (especially America) but I’m excited anyway!

@RunnerDown when would you say it’ll be ok to travel abroad? Genuine question

I think we should wait until next year. It’s because last summer Scotland had very few cases in the summer and when cases began to rise again a lot of this was variants imported from the EU. And it may be that we are not all vaccinated until later in Summer -esp younger folks. They may not get seriously ill but long COVID is pretty unpleasant. Many EU countries wont have all their own people vaccinated. I know they depend on tourism but if everyone holidayed in their own country the risk to everyone is reduced. Hopefully by next year most people will be vaccinated ( and I hope the richer countries will support poorer countries in getting vaccines to do this) and the pandemic will be coming to an end. I’d prefer to have this country open for business all summer with no further waves than go on a summer holiday .
PradaBallbag · 16/03/2021 18:53

@RunnerDown there would be no airlines or tour operators still in existence if what you want actually happened. They would all go bust. Get real.

And PS I holidayed in my own country last year. It cost me a fortune and it pissed it down. No thanks! 😊

Ljubljana in October for a long weekend, booked this week, for me and my friend, both fully vaccinated already and covid insurance for if it's cancelled.

May17th · 16/03/2021 19:07

@RunnerDown

Very frustrated that people think it’s fine to travel abroad. We’ve all been through so much to suppress the virus. With the vaccination programme there is light at the end of the tunnel. But people still willing to risk importing potential new variants
I’m sorry there’s no light really. This is based on your assumption that the vaccine will work... travel needs to go at some point other wise what what will happen to the travel job sector? Also the other Countries relying on tourism.
Kitkat151 · 16/03/2021 19:10
@RunnerDown if the government say that I can travel, then I will travel. We can't have our lives on hold forever. There are also thousands of people who work in the travel industry who are relying on things getting more back to normal for their livelihood. I don't intend to remain locked up forever in my home.
It depends what your expectations of the holiday are...what you are prepared to tolerate....ie potentially....wearing a mask in the resort and on the beach....paying for PCR tests before both flights.....long delays at the airport.....curfews in your resort.....self isolating on return ( or worse hotel quarantine on your return).....having to book everything in advance ( no room for spontaneity).... for me I wouldn’t risk any of these because they would come at a cost to my enjoyment of the holiday....but if you not fussed then go for it

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 16/03/2021 19:14

We've booked a holiday in Greece for early October. Where we're going the weather should be good and DP can't take it too hot.

We went to the Cotswolds last year just to get away from home and it was good, but I really want to lie by a pool with a book and completely relax. Plus I'm an early riser and DP isn't. If the weather's not so good we'll hire a car and go exploring.

PradaBallbag · 16/03/2021 19:14

Let's have a bit of doom & gloom eh @Kitkat151. Like we don't have enough already.

FYI I had two foreign holidays last year. Both were lovely.

Vaccination will be offered to all uk adults by July 21, the government announced this month, bought forward from September 21.

And they will announce a date that international travel will be allowed shortly.

So your prediction of ' I'd rather have the uk open is gloom-mongering and trying to spread anxiety, when in actual fact the lifting of limits which has already started is part of the government's plans to reopen.

Practicalprat · 16/03/2021 19:43

We had no choice ours was rolled over from last May half term to this year, very much doubt this will go ahead either.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 16/03/2021 19:47

DH is in the travel industry and we live in a US state that's heavily reliant on tourism. We're not expecting much in the way of international visitors this year but are expecting a huge wave of domestic travel instead.

We did a trip earlier this year to Florida (for work) and Disney etc tickets were sold out just with people visiting from elsewhere in the US.

We haven't booked any travel abroad yet for 2021, but will visit family in the UK as soon as we can go there without having to quarantine. Expecting to be fully vaccinated here by early May (we're in our 50s) but not sure when our teens will be vaccinated.

FaceyRomford · 16/03/2021 19:59

Booked it. Had it cancelled and got a full refund. So much for 2021.

Ah that's a shame 😫 Plenty of time to rebook though, if you want to.

Booked a July holiday in the UK. I don't want to risk abroad this year but have abroad booked for next year!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/03/2021 20:19

Not confident enough this year. Desperate to do a couple of ‘big’ holidays but just not up for booking them.

We have booked a couple of uk hotels, but not going to book any more of those! Got a quote one evening for one, the next morning when we confirmed the booking the price had gone up by £500 and they wouldn’t honour the price of the previous evening.

Think it’s going to be a true staycation this year unfortunately until the world calms down.

mindutopia · 16/03/2021 20:22

I never book that far in advance as don’t do package holidays, but yes, looking forward to going abroad next year. I’ll probably book something next winter. This year we have 4 UK holidays booked and I’ll be grateful just for that.

Travis1 · 16/03/2021 20:30

We’ve got a hotel in London booked for the Scotland/England game if they are allowing fans. A week in skye for the end of august and 5 nights in Vienna for the Christmas markets so fingers crossed

Aposterhasnoname · 16/03/2021 20:31

Meeeeeee. Just swapped our holiday in Tenerife in June, to Cyprus in July, also have two weeks in Greece in September and a week in Torquay in June. Not completely convinced we’ll go on the ones abroad, but we’ve nothing to lose so what the hell, travel has to restart sooner or later,

LegendDairy · 16/03/2021 20:34

Nothing booked but we'll try and do a couple of last minute camping weekends. It's just us 2 and we don't need fancy facilities so I don't think it'll be hard to find somewhere to go.
