What's the most extravagant indulgence you buy for your DCs?

Inspired by another thread over on AIBU, but just wondered what crazily indulgent treats have you bought your children?

Ever since she started wearing make up I've always bought Chanel foundation for DD because I was determined she wasn't going to have that dreadful orangey-chalk face beloved of so many teenage girls.

Mine is trainers for dd. Despite my offers of nice clothes if she wants them, she lives in H&M leggings and t-shirts when she's not in school uniform, but she loves trainers, so I buy her expensive ones if she wants - she currently has Adidas Stan smiths (her choice), but I try to buy them in the sale because her feet grow at record speed.

Plus 5 full school uniforms, although that's more an indulgence for me so I only have to wash them all once per week rather than a mid week panic that we've run out and need to do a load of laundry at 9pm mid week.

Football kits
Lots of sports clubs/classes
Surf camp
Holidays
Also planning to get DD (age 6 nearly 7) a pair of DMs as she is starting a new school in September. They're not actually much more expensive than Clarks anyway.

My y5 dts have small boots and I've just got them do school shoes. They are so good, they'll outlast anything else similar so cheaper per wear and look super cool:)

Oh books!! I buy lots of books

JoyOrbison · 16/03/2021 22:01

I thought I was flash - mine can pick a Starbucks once or twice a month!

GoneCrazy · 16/03/2021 22:01

Theatre - eating out - birthday parties
God too much!

Fabric for homemade clothes. Some of it is eye wateringly expensive. It is still cheaper than buying new from the likes of Frugi though Blush

KeyboardWorriers · 16/03/2021 22:13

Hobbies (sailing, horse riding, dance, music) and family activities (watersports, traveling etc)

And books, any books they want I just buy, I am so glad they love reading. Usually second hand admittedly, unless it is a new release.

Problematicbehaviour · 16/03/2021 22:28

Proper sports kit for my 2 year old... a basketball kit is nearly £50 for a real NIKE one, but he wants to be just like his uncles so ... nike it is.

ThorsMistress · 16/03/2021 22:37

@BeetyAxe Vbucks are quite honestly the bane of my life and I could of bought a new car with the amount I have spent!

Clothes and shoes for my 2.

BeetyAxe · 16/03/2021 22:45

Thank god someone else is in my boat and it’s not only me wasting my money on this nonsense instead of horse riding or skiingGrin

WhatMattersMost · 16/03/2021 22:55

A high-spec gaming computer, and 750 thread count sheets, because he fell in love with mine.

Whirlwind14 · 16/03/2021 23:18

White Company bedding/sleeping bags
Baby Boden outfits for my youngest particularly because she’s my last baby and the clothes are so damn cute! Although whenever she goes out at the moment she’s in a puddle suit and has nowhere to go to wear them....

Xmasbaby11 · 16/03/2021 23:21

My dd 7 and 9 have lots of toys and books and craft things. Normally I take them out to a coffee shop for cake every weekend. I also buy them coats and other bits from more expensive brands like Boden and Joules. They seem to wear well and be good quality- I'm not sure my dd would consider the clothes a luxury!

I can't think of any massive things but they have a good life and they know they have more than the basics!

Gig/festival/event tickets for the 11 year olds benefit. Including travel and overnight hotels, band merch etc.

The two year olds had a lot of private medical expenses ... probably cost us close to 10k including travelling to appointments and overnight hotel stays. We'd still be waiting for the NHS just to refer us to check if there's a problem.

Neolara · 17/03/2021 00:12

I take the girls to have their hair cut at Toni and Guys, because I grew up in the 80s and am still scarred by the humiliation of truly terrible haircuts.

@SimonJT
Where did you go for non NHS hearing aids, if I my ask.? My DC wants the hidden ones and it's all they ask for at Christmas or birthdays, but we just stick with the NHS ones as they're updated regularly.
Maybe we should look into it, would you recommend we did?

TotorosFurryBehind · 17/03/2021 00:34

Waterwipes...so expensive for what they are!

Halloweiner · 17/03/2021 00:41

I allow my DC to choose something every time we go into a shop, be it a bar of chocolate or a small toy, a magazine etc. Also clothes, I like them to be decent and 'stylish'.

InglouriousBasterd · 17/03/2021 01:01

Books! She reads all the time and I never say no to a book. She’s also seen quite a few west end musicals (cheap seats, but she loves it). Jacqueline Wilson magazine every month!

ConeHat · 17/03/2021 01:12

Hobbies too I guess. My sons all went to gymnastics for years. I always joke my sons half arsed cartwheel cost me 5k ( it feels like I did!)

Dd comes along and without any gym lessons can cartwheel like a pro. I feel more money will hemorrhage to gym club. Still I guess it helped keep them fit.

We use Anchal Pasher at Highgate hospital, you have to check carefully as many aren’t specifically trained in fitting children.

Nutrigrainygoodness · 17/03/2021 06:35

Dd (11) loves shoes and superdry hoodies.

Shes had vans, converse, Adidas gazelles, Nike Air max, sketchers 'ugg' style boots.

Hopefully her feet will stop growing soon, and her shoes will last more than 5 minutes 😂
