What's the most extravagant indulgence you buy for your DCs?

Inspired by another thread over on AIBU, but just wondered what crazily indulgent treats have you bought your children?

Ever since she started wearing make up I've always bought Chanel foundation for DD because I was determined she wasn't going to have that dreadful orangey-chalk face beloved of so many teenage girls.

Skiing (UK lessons and holidays)
Outdoor kit such as waterproofs, hiking boots, camping gear, a canoe, life jackets (although this hobby is extremely cheap now we have the equipment!)

Cindersrellie · 16/03/2021 15:57

@TrickyD

Holidays. Under normal circumstances two a year, skiing and Caribbean. They are 48 and 49 and we take their kids too.
Can you be my parent, please Grin
pinkphone · 16/03/2021 15:57

I buy M&S school polo tops for my kids rather than just getting them from the supermarket. They just seem really nice and soft and it's a bit of a silly indulgence but it makes me feel good!

mogtheexcellent · 16/03/2021 16:00

Boden and frugi clothes. I love bright colours on DD7. I always buy in the sale though.

Otherwise books. You can never have too many.

ineedaholidayandwine · 16/03/2021 16:00

She's 4, for us it's Ted Baker clothes and holidays. We go away 3-4 times a year, always abroad, she loves holidays as much as we do

BeetyAxe · 16/03/2021 16:04

No-one else saying bloody v bucks?! Waste of money and load of crap, but have kept him quiet and me sane during lockdown.

Stompythedinosaur · 16/03/2021 16:07

All their extracurricular activities - music lessons, riding etc isn't cheap.

BrownEyedGirl80 · 16/03/2021 16:09

Next uniform.
Shoes/trainers.
Coats.

MinnieMountain · 16/03/2021 16:10

Skiing. DH takes DS every year and normally pays for individual ski lessons.

Books maybe but I don’t really count those as an indulgence.

Frustratingly we’d happily pay for DS to go to any sport/club he wants as I never had the opportunity but he’s not interested.

BikeRunSki · 16/03/2021 16:15

Bikes
DH and I are cyclists, we’ve always done a lot of cycling as a family, the dc have always had Islabikes or Frogs, usually having an mtb and a road bike each. Mostly second hand though. DS got his first adult size bike for Christmas - carbon fibre as he is tall but not yet that strong.

Wantocrawlintoadarkcave · 16/03/2021 16:16

Used to be Playmobil stables now it is actual horses!

BubbleBanana · 16/03/2021 16:22

Peppa Pig houses Grin. She's only 2 so thankfully expenses are within reason but she adores Peppa so much and will play with the dollhouse for hours.

Horses. DD has had a pony since she was 3. Now that she is a bit older and is starting to compete more seriously we have two of them. Their care, equipment and all of the entry fees takes up pretty much all of our spare cash but I really wouldn't have it any other way.

That sounds amazing, lucky girl!!!

GrumpyHoonMain · 16/03/2021 16:23

Mostly food based - proper gold top milk, organic food where possible, mountains of expensive fruit. But I also like to shop new and branded when it comes to his clothes.

ZooeyS · 16/03/2021 16:28

Private riding lessons. Unlimited books, especially since libraries have been closed. Holidays! I love travelling and had no intention of stopping when she was born so she's been over the world with me.

ItsSnowJokes · 16/03/2021 16:29

Mine would be toiletries from Bloom and Blossom. She has really sensitive skin and they just work well on her, most other things bring her up in an itchy red rash, especially on her scalp. The only other brands that works is some of Childs Farm or Aveeno (the baby shampoo but not the other ones) but I love the smell of the Bloom and Blossom ones.

wildthingsinthenight · 16/03/2021 16:31

Food based too.
Wagamama takeaways!
Adidas trainers

WorriedMillie · 16/03/2021 16:32

Boden clothes and Boden Sherpa lined coats for school (very warm)
She grows quite slowly, so gets her wear out of them, then they get passed down through two more children

Ilovechocolatetoomuch · 16/03/2021 16:34

Boden and frugi clothes
Florida holidays
Shoes.
Organic food. All things I would never buy myself!

mindutopia · 16/03/2021 16:35

I take mine on really nice holidays (okay, they're also for me too). Dd(8) and I went to Venice for 4 days a couple years ago. And took littlest one to Barcelona. He tolerated the museums, but he had lovely times playing in playgrounds and he ate all sorts of food he wouldn't normally have a chance to try at home.

Thecazelets · 16/03/2021 16:36

Books are an unlimited pleasure in this house too. And we have paid for them all to have contact lenses as soon as they were old enough to deal with them (when they were still in primary school) as we all suffer with mole-like vision. (The two things may be connected).

brogo · 16/03/2021 16:41

Ds is 22 months and so far have not really spent too much on anything, but when he was a baby I literally bought every single type of bottle and dummy I could find.
Pregnant with first dd at the moment and I'm obsessed with smock dresses, they are all so expensive I can imagine that will be a bit of an indulgment for a while.

peaceanddove · 16/03/2021 16:56

When they were little mine always wore, expensive European, leather shoes from an independent children's shoe shop. Nightdresses and dressing gowns from John Lewis. Always bought their school pinafores from JL too, as they were indestructible.

Now, as teens, they always have Aveda shampoo & conditioner in their bathroom, and a mix of REN or Drunk Elephant skincare (all bought by me as I want them to look after their skin properly). They both have top of the range phones, headphones and laptops because DH is a total tech snob of the highest order.

I bought myself dd1 the most beautiful dolls' house one Christmas. I think she looked at it ONCE Grin.

tigertubbie · 16/03/2021 17:00

My 3 year old has a lush bath bomb almost every bath time. Sometimes I substitute for cheaper ones and mix them in the lush box.

I'm so ashamed writing that. It's literally money down the drain.

BigmouseLittlehouse · 16/03/2021 17:04

For one of mine raspberries in his lunchbox every day Smile
