What will/does your Easter look like?

We go big at Easter in our house. It's a second Christmas but better because the weather's nicer and no family come.

We always take two weeks off for Easter with the actual Easter weekend coming at the end of the first week off.

We give each other loads of presents, we decorate the house, we have an Easter tree, we have a giant Easter dinner (basically the same as Christmas dinner, just replace Christmas chicken with lamb), we drink copious amounts of booze, we have specific TV shows which are part of our Easter tradition (i.e. watch them every year), and we have a takeaway nearly every night over the two weeks.

I CANNOT WAIT Grin Grin

What are your Easter traditions?

That sounds awesome! We definitely mark the occasion with chocolate eggs, roast dinner and family meet ups, and last year the Easter bunny bought my DS presents, but you’ve given me much better tips for this year! Given that 2 households should be able to meet outside by this Easter, it seems like a great reason to go big!

hopeishere · 16/03/2021 21:05

An egg hunt.
Chocolate.
Roast lamb.

DinosApple · 16/03/2021 21:12

Family tradition, big gathering plus a Sri Lankan curry - chicken, noodles, chilies, all sorts of amazing side dishes. If we can't see my parents, then I'll have to make it for the four of us again.

Usually we'd head to my parents with my grandma, uncle, DBro and Dsil, have an egg hunt followed by dinner. Easter is a massive deal in my family (half Catholic, half CofE).

We don't do anything. Well, I'll buy ds an easter egg, but thats it, he doesn't get them from anyone else and no decorating/meals/traditions

OutsideTheWhiteHouse · 16/03/2021 21:19

Enjoy the bank holiday. Make something nice for lunch. Chocolate. That’s it.

IamChipmunk · 16/03/2021 21:30

Chocolate eggs
Egg hunt
Big roast with all the trimmings as at Xmas but with lamb!

badlydrawnbear · 16/03/2021 22:04

It varies depending on when I am at work. This year I am working bank holiday Monday though that could change between now and then. I used to take DC to church on Easter Sunday and while we were there the Easter Bunny would come to our house and left a map for DC to find the eggs he had left. Last year I took DC for a long walk and the Easter Bunny came while we were out. I buy DC Easter presents that are not chocolate and not big or extravagant, something like a book and/ or an item of clothing from H&M or similar (must start looking into that), grandparents tend to buy chocolate eggs. We would often go to my parents or in-laws for a roast dinner (obviously not last year or this year). Once or twice we have been to a National Trust Easter egg hunt. We don't decorate or have an Easter tree.

IdblowJonSnow · 16/03/2021 22:04

We do a hunt, go somewhere to see lambs and chicks.
Lots of walks, a day trip in non covid times.
We see family.
Might do a bit of crafting/baking. But this would be spread out throughout the fortnight off school and partly to fill the time.
We never have lamb. I dont like it anyway but my kids would be horrified.

whatswithtodaytoday · 16/03/2021 22:13

Nothing, other than Easter eggs. It's just a bank holiday. Lovely to have the time off but no decorating or special food.

To me it's a religious festival, unlike Christmas which is far more of a cultural thing. I would feel a bit weird celebrating Easter when I'm not religious.

CinnamonStar · 16/03/2021 22:15

Countryside walk on Good Friday, we bring buttered hot cross buns with us.

Easter Sunday, new books and clothes for everyone, church service, roast lamb for lunch, boiled eggs for tea. Everyone hides a (big) Easter egg for someone else and writes clues to find it.

Always try and have a trip to the coast (missed it last year).

LaurieFairyCake · 16/03/2021 22:17

Very keen on Easter and do similar to OP (but can't take 2 weeks off)

I like it as much as Christmas

OhToBeASeahorse · 16/03/2021 22:23

DH and I always give up a lot for Lent. A tradition arose that on Easter Monday we do nothing, we stay in bed and eat chocolate. A very simple salad for lunch, veg and lean protein. That's it, no carbs. I think we will go back to it when the children are bigger

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 16/03/2021 22:25

Spend weeks trying to persuade DH to take time off for the kids holiday...
Decorate - well, pop some hanging eggs on the twiggy things I have around the house.
On the day - egg hunt - this can be any point on Easter Sunday so they don't just wake up and have eggs, I try to get them to work together to get their eggs and chocolate.

They usually get one medium sized egg and maybe a book along with lots of little eggs found on the hunt.

We've got an M&S turkey in the freezer from Christmas so will be eating that.

We usually go away in the Easter holidays so we're sad to be missing that again.

Timeisavirtue · 16/03/2021 22:27

We have an egg hunt, and eat roast gammon. My birthday is good Friday this year so will be having our annual fish and chips as usual. Kill 2 birds with one stone 😊

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 16/03/2021 22:27

That sounds wonderful OP.

I'm normally the "Anything for a celebration" type person but don't feel like I have the energy this year. I really need to perk up and make some plans.

Can I ask what films you watch? I need some ideas.

EmmaStone · 16/03/2021 22:33

We're usually on holiday, where Easter is commercially celebrated - lots of egg hunts (and we would also do one at the holiday villa), sweet giveaways etc. Last year we replicated it a bit at home - egg hunt in the garden, and a weekend of the food we'd have been eating abroad. I've not even given it any thought this year. Will buy the kids eggs, do another egg hunt (do they ever get too old for this?!? Mine are 15 & 13, and would still shamelessly pose for a photo with the Easter Bunny if it meant free chocolate!), and enjoy the long weekend.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 16/03/2021 22:36

No one is ever too old for an egg hunt. I still love them. :o

islockdownoveryet · 16/03/2021 22:38

Your Easter sounds great op , I usually love Easter . The long weekend but no stress of presents etc . I do like to get the usual eggs , big dinner booze etc . Hopefully can have a bbq all being well and yes I may decorate too .

megletsecond · 16/03/2021 22:38

Yes, I'd like some Easter film inspiration too. What ones are there?

DrunkenKoala · 16/03/2021 22:41

Good Friday - go out for day, usually National Trust property for Easter egg hunt then home for fish and chips.
Saturday - baking and /or crafts.
Easter Sunday - hot cross buns for breakfast, Easter egg hunt then roast for lunch. Chill out in afternoon.
Easter Monday- cooked breakfast and may go for a walk.

Cam2020 · 16/03/2021 22:42

An egg hunt.
Chocolate.
Roast lamb
.
Same.

Sparrowfeeder · 16/03/2021 22:44

The same as any lockdown day. Except the chocolate will be egg shaped. Never done Easter!

Etinox · 16/03/2021 22:49

@megletsecond

Yes, I'd like some Easter film inspiration too. What ones are there?
We always watch Rev, particularly the last ever episode and Risen- film with Ralph Fiennes. Both earnest and religious, you may even have an Easter miracle WinkFlowers
GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 16/03/2021 22:59

No one suggest Watership Down.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 16/03/2021 23:28

It's not a bank holiday here so we have work and school as usual on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

We do an egg hunt around our garden on Sunday. Usually the snow has mostly melted and it's the first time we really go out in the garden in the year.
