What will/does your Easter look like?

We go big at Easter in our house. It's a second Christmas but better because the weather's nicer and no family come.

We always take two weeks off for Easter with the actual Easter weekend coming at the end of the first week off.

We give each other loads of presents, we decorate the house, we have an Easter tree, we have a giant Easter dinner (basically the same as Christmas dinner, just replace Christmas chicken with lamb), we drink copious amounts of booze, we have specific TV shows which are part of our Easter tradition (i.e. watch them every year), and we have a takeaway nearly every night over the two weeks.

I CANNOT WAIT Grin Grin

What are your Easter traditions?

I do a bit of spring decorating and have a couple of cute bunnies and some stone eggs that I like to use.

On Saturday we dye eggs.

On Sunday I hide plastic Easter eggs with little
Treats and gifts inside. I have a few large eggs so I have a bit of leeway on gift size.

That’s it. For me it’s more akin to Valentine’s Day. A quick little fun thing. It doesn’t have the strong cultural draw of Christmas and it’s too religious to embrace as beyond the cultural.

We're going away on holiday!!!

We live in wales and have a touring caravan. Got a site booked in snowdonia. Cannot bloody wait!!!!!

jakeyboy1 · 16/03/2021 23:58

I need an Easter tree in my life.

I started a new tradition last year - Easter Disney toy. This year it's Easter Stitch - he's gorgeous!

We usually go away for the long weekend but obviously not this year. I do an Easter egg hunt for DS but other than that it's pretty chilled.

garlictwist · 17/03/2021 05:44

I struggle with Easter. I get loads of time off work (the Thursday and Tuesday as well as the bank holidays and the weekend) but never have anything to do with it. I try go out cycling if the weathers ok.

Cattitudes · 17/03/2021 05:45

We always do an egg hunt. Treasure hunts are big in our household anyway. They are having to get harder and harder to challenge them. Usually we go away somewhere. Big roast lamb on Sunday. Church if we are not away.

ragged · 17/03/2021 07:10

Probably work a lot. Nothing special here.

Morgan12 · 17/03/2021 07:18

My mum does an egg hunt for the kids.

We have a roast dinner. Usually ham.

Give chocolate eggs.

That's about it for us.

lollipoprainbow · 17/03/2021 07:21

Not a big fan of Easter it's a bit like four Sunday's in a row Confused we have an Easter tree though and I always make my dd a hamper with a bunny, eggs and a present that she has asked for. Roast chicken, Prosecco and lots of chocolate. Chockdown as I call it !

Fileexplorerrrr · 17/03/2021 07:25

We do exactly the same as you!
It’s all about traditions.

All the family get together (there are loads of us) and we have loads of fun.

We also do a massive egg hunt in whoever’s hosting garden. We do one for the children and one for the adults after which is hilarious. The adults are much more competitive than the children.

Last year was the first year that we all had Easter in our own homes with no big get together due to being in lockdown. We still did the same traditions, just in a smaller, quieter scale.

Looks like this year will be the same but we will look forward to next year, when hopefully, the whole family can get together again.

We really did think that we would be together this year ..

Yamashita40 · 17/03/2021 07:29

I would normally be off for most of the holidays. I have to go to work one day but that's fine to give me a break from kids. We would usually go on holiday for a short UK break (just rearranged that to July).
I would normally have lots of days out planned with lots of different friends with kids, maybe a night out.
On Easter Sunday we would go to my cousin's house and she would do an Easter egg hunt then cook a big roast.

The kids get so many eggs. I absolutely love and adore Easter. Ooh we decorate the house too.

Not sure how much of that will be happening last year but it will be better than a tier four Christmas.

Hippywannabe · 17/03/2021 07:35

I get to meet my new baby granddaughter on Good Friday providing the rules don't change! She was born in January. I haven't seen my grandson (her brother) since October either. I haven't hugged my son since February last year.
I am counting down the hours!!!

PickAChew · 17/03/2021 07:37

Any other day.

Justcashnosweets · 17/03/2021 07:49

We love Easter! We decorate the house, go on a village egg hunt ( pre covid) spend time with family, lots of Easter eggs and gifts, and a big roast lamb dinner.

BertiesShoes · 17/03/2021 08:14

@MrsArchchancellorRidcully

I am jealous, we also have a tourer but can’t go anywhere until the 12th (at earliest!). When kids were younger (now young adults) we always were away for a week in caravan, plus one had a week staying with my mum at Easter (the other in summer) so we would tie in dropping them off or picking them up, depending on when Easter weekend fell in school hols. The Easter bunny always left presents in the external caravan locker!

That changed when they were in exam years, and my mum has since died. We did go away in caravan 2 yrs ago, eldest was on a uni placement and joined us, it was gloriously hot and I worried the eggs would melt 😂. Youngest is working in retail on extended gap year, so has been working last couple of years. She is off Easter Sunday itself but works longer hours rest of weekend.

We will have some walks over weekend, maybe do baking, lamb roast (DD is now pescatarian so will probably make a nut roast with her), lots of chocolate eaten (I love Easter eggs, my fave chocolate, esp chilled - DD came home with a ton of reduced eggs after Easter last year 🤣🤣). They have requested DH does an egg hunt like last year. We will just enjoy the time as a family.

I retire on 14th, so by Easter I will be in celebration mode I think, am already half way there, and will then have more time to walk off all the Easter chocolate!

Angel2702 · 17/03/2021 08:33

Same was always seen as important as Christmas. Lots of decorations, baking, craft for the kids. Big Christmas style dinner with a Christmas pudding saved specifically from Christmas. Usually big family celebration starting on Good Friday all the way through.

DavidsSchitt · 17/03/2021 08:51

Decorate the house and Easter tree
Fish on good Friday
Play games and go for a walk on Saturday
Egg hunt and huge Easter roast on Sunday
Leftovers on Easter Monday

DustyOldBin · 17/03/2021 12:57

Never ever too old for an Easter egg hunt. Me and DP do an Easter egg hunt for each other Blush

@Etinox Rev is our current Saturday night TV programme. It'd make a perfect Easter programme for sure. I love it Grin

We don't have specific Easter-themed programmes but we watch Trollied (only the first couple of series until it got shit!) and Early Doors. DP bought me the DVDs one year for Easter so now we watch theme every single year Grin

I never do anything except give the kids eggs and enjoy the bank holidays! However this year I am going to go all out. This thread has made me even more up for it! Going to do a hunt with chocolate, sweets, Easter crafts I have bought from the works, a new julia Donaldson book each and finish with a bend and flex super hero for the two of them. Have also bought oh some little token things for the hunt and I have my eye on a fenty beauty make up brush so that'll be included as I can't possibly leave myself out Grin Hoping we get some nice weather and can have a bbq on Easter Sunday.
We are not religious in any way and I feel like a hypocrite celebrating 'Easter' so it's more of a celebration of family time. Oh has been working away since Christmas including a lot of weekends so want to make the most of having him around. The kids also deserve to be treated! They have had their moments the past 12 months (haven't we all!) but I couldn't ask for two better kids!

golddustwomen · 17/03/2021 13:24

@Hippywannabe this made me smile!!!! Smile

DustyOldBin · 17/03/2021 13:34

I probably should've said that I'm in no way religious so we don't really 'celebrate' Easter so much as using it as an excuse for time off, indulgence, presents, decorating etc.

We approach Christmas in much the same way but Christmas feels more constrained by bad weather and the fact that wider-family get involved whereas Easter is just me and DP.

God, that is so true! You've genuinely just made me realise why I'm never very excited about the Easter weekend. I'm off work Thurs-Tues and really want to go out and about but no idea where...

Stompythedinosaur · 17/03/2021 14:59

Our Easter traditions are some sort of treasure hunt waiting for the dc when they get up leading to big eggs, and an egg hint in the garden with little eggs later on. Family for roast dinner. Village Easter party in usual years (not this year though).
