They’ve only gone and discontinued Syndol...

And it was literally the only thing that would shift my menstrual headaches 😩

The original Syndol contained paracetamol, codeine, caffeine and doxylamine succinate. They have pulled this off the shelves (no idea why) and they have now released a new version of Syndol which just contains paracetamol, codeine and caffeine (so basically the same as Solpadeine Max).

The doxylamine succinate must have been the secret ingredient as Solpadeine doesn’t even touch my menstrual headaches.

Ive been taking it for years with no ill effects so I have no idea why they have changed it.

I’m so cross and now dreading my next period without it Angry

Are you in UK ButtonHill because I didn't think you could get Doxylamine here. Anywhere I tried online suggested other antihistamines but none of the others work as well.

Kirkland Sleep Aid (which is a 25mg pill) used to be sold by Amazon UK however it has since stopped selling it here in the UK.
But BIOVEA are advertising it, https://www.biovea.com/uk/product/detail/1995/sleep-aid-25mg-doxylamine-succinate-192-tablets

There is also another website that purports to be the real deal but I cannot prove it is real and not a website that is cashing in on the shortage. Look for Kirkland Sleep Aid.com without the spaces but I urge caution.
Biovea looks safer but if anyone does use the other one please report back here.

Final thought, half a tablet is enough to be the same as two Syndol .

Yes I'm in the UK. They are an American product and I've always bought them from ebay or Amazon (infrequently because you only need 1/2 a tablet so they last ages) I've just had a look and there aren't any listed at all so maybe they've tightened up 🤔😥@Star1968

The Biovea site looks genuine, the bottles should all be sealed. Just be careful you get the tablet form and not the soft gel capsules because you need to split them x

You can buy Zolmitriptan in online pharmacies - they take you through the necessary prescription. All above board. This drug was a game changer for me for hormonal migraines - and with none of the drowsiness of Syndol.

It is expensive though - but for me completely worth it. One tablet and migraine lifts within 30 mins.

You could also probably ask your doctor to prescribe it. It is non-addictive.

Doxylamine is widely available in Germany as sleeping tablets/drops. I often order online from German pharmacies (proper, verifiable, ones) anyway, and have been buying various different doxylamine ever since the original Syndol problems 10-11 years (?) ago. I take alongside any of the various paracetamol & codeine (& caffeine) tablets available in the UK.
(Co-codamol, numerous generics/stores’ own-brand, the pale blue pack Syndol, Paracodol, Solpadeine Plus, Veganin Triple Action…)

Delivery isn’t cheap (15-18 € depending on the pharmacy), but the products themselves are reasonable.

This is an old thread, Syndol (the old, effective version) has been back on sale for some months now unless it's disappeared again in the last week or so.

No, the original syndol has not been available since about March. This thread has been long running as it has disappeared before, then reappeared....

It’s a current thread as RavenT said - you haven’t been able to get the original formulation Syndol with doxylamine for about 6 months

Syndol has been sold on by Sanofi who will no longer manufacture or sell it.

Silverlox that's interesting, nearer too. You would think if it's been passed on to this company there must be something in the pipeline to produce it. Lets hope it's the original formula with the doxylamine.

I got this response in September, so hopefully will be available soon:

Thanks for your e-mail and interest in our product.

We recently acquired Syndol from Sanofi. Unfortunately, with the product we also inherited some manufacturing issues, we are working closely with the manufacturer to resolve these issues. We are hopeful to be able to resupply the UK market in 1- 2 months.

Thanks & Kind regards,

I’m so annoyed that they’ve discontinued syndol original! I’ve been taking it when needed for atleast 7 years!! It’s the only thing that really helps my migraines

If anyone knows anything similar that’s helped them could you please pass it on :)

tialeonie, i fully understand what you are saying. I buy the original Syndol formula tablets from abroad and have done for several years. Quite expensive but the only way I have found.

I haven't seen it in the pharmacy only online but without the doxy. As one comment said Kirkland sells doxy 25mg per tablet for sleep aid , not so convenient for me for a waking migraine but I think Syndol was only 5mg per tablet and if I felt a migraine coming on I took half a Syndol 2.5mg doxy which worked for me . However now I can mostly step back from migraine dangers. Disclaimer 🙂always consult your doctor.
