They’ve only gone and discontinued Syndol...

PoptartPoptart · 14/03/2021 20:42

And it was literally the only thing that would shift my menstrual headaches 😩

The original Syndol contained paracetamol, codeine, caffeine and doxylamine succinate. They have pulled this off the shelves (no idea why) and they have now released a new version of Syndol which just contains paracetamol, codeine and caffeine (so basically the same as Solpadeine Max).

The doxylamine succinate must have been the secret ingredient as Solpadeine doesn’t even touch my menstrual headaches.

Ive been taking it for years with no ill effects so I have no idea why they have changed it.

I’m so cross and now dreading my next period without it Angry

My wife has suffered migraines for many years. We have found the original Syndol invaluable to give her relief. We have been through the two occasions in the last years where Syndol has disappeared off the shelves and it was like hell however we found supplies from South Africa.
We have just received out latest order which is a great relief as waiting till September would be nightmare.
I am only trying to help and give information in that there is hope out there. If you feel this post needs to be deleted please email me with the exact reason why. Many thanks

Thanks so much for this thread. Tried and failed to find syndol recently and can’t break a migraine. I have found the Kirkland sleep aid sold in uk and delivered in a few days on eBay of that helps anyone. Will be trying diy approach too!

Just spoken to the makers, Sanofi, Syndol original formula with doxylaymine is ready for selling from 13th August 2021 in England.
They say that if your pharmacy call this number they can find out where they can buy it from.
0800 854 430 option 2 - maybe 0800 857 430
Alternatively use the number I called, 0800 471 8627

Now I can breathe easier and use my last box without too much restraint.
Good luck to all that use Syndol.

13th Aug or Sept?

Report
Cocolapew · 23/08/2021 12:38

Do you mean September? I still can't find any.

I know, same here for me, that's why I added the phone numbers.

According to the guy I spoke to you need to ask your local pharmacy to check their suppliers or ask them to phone direct and they will advise the pharmacy to locate/buy etc.

For clarity, it was as I said, 13th August 2021 they were available for stock/sale in the UK. But pharmacies need to get them in stock, maybe they don't know yet that they are now available from Sanofi.

Thank you so much for the information about Syndol being available again. It's the only thing that helps me with tension headache. My lovely pharmacist has just ordered it for me, they didn't know it was back in stock. So if you're unable to find it, it's definitely worth asking.

I’m off to my pharmacy tomorrow, so glad it’s back, the only thing that works for me too! Even over prescriptions x

This is such good news- one of the few things that helps my migraines before they hit threat level zero. Thanks everyone for all this info.

www.chemist-4-u.com/syndol-10-tablets

Chemist 4 U have them in stock now. I've just ordered an extra packet just in case I struggle to get them again!

My pharmacist called me today to say the ones he ordered yesterday were in so I went and picked them up. He thanked me for letting him know as so many people have been asking for them. The power of Mumsnet!

I also finally managed to get a pack here too. I've been without for 6 months! I only take 2 a month for menstrual migraine, but they are a godsend.

They took them off sale a few years ago and they've not even been back for a year in the original formulation and they've gone again. I've taken them for about 30 years and they are the only thing that shifts my migraines. Dr's can't prescribe anything with doxylamine either which is the secret ingredient. Last time they disappeared I did lots of research and the nearest you can get is veganin (from any chemist) with 1/2 a Kirkland sleep aid tablet which is doxylamine succinate (from Amazon). I even ordered some direct from South Africa where they are made, they worked but were really large round tablets and very hard to swallow x

Just asked in Paydens in the south east uk, they don't know about the release.
Spoke again to Sanofi and they have discontinued the 30 pack size.

Now only available in packs of 10 but with the doxylamine included.
Trying to get my local chemist to get some. Again been available from August.

Resurrecting this thread to ask if people are finding the original Syndol available again? I am struggling with headaches at the moment (lots of possible triggers but feels more like a tension headache than a migraine).

I notice that it is out of stock at chemist4u

Report
Silverlox · 16/02/2022 18:15

Original formula is available in most pharmacies, but so far not Boots.
They are only sold in packs of 10 now.
I've managed to find the easily at Lloyds Pharmacies in the South East and in Paydens if you are looking for a personal visit.
www.chemist.co.uk/syndol-10-tablets-paracetamol-codeine-phosphate.html have them but you will have to pay postage.
Other online suppliers exist.

The 30 pack is no more, deceased, died.

Hopefully this helps.
