I do. Not sure what I'm frightened of exactly.. damage to property I think.

Its just so uncontrollable.

I love being tucked up in bed and listening to it rage outside.
But then feel instantly guilty because there are people on the streets out in it :(

ValerieMorghulis · 10/03/2021 22:53

@DareIask

Does anyone know when it's likely to stop?
It’s forecast to get worse before it gets better here (SE England) in the early morning
DotBall · 10/03/2021 22:54

I don’t like any windy weather, I hate the wind.
A friend of mine hates the wind because she can’t see it, yet it’s so powerful.

BlueSkyBlinking · 10/03/2021 22:58

I went out into the garden with the dog and a big roaring gust swelled all around me. Frightened the life out of me. It felt almost supernatural!

longcoffeebreak · 10/03/2021 23:00

Yep, and flooding during heavy rain

BogRollBOGOF · 10/03/2021 23:01

I'd prefer it if we had a sound roof over our heads...

MouthAche · 10/03/2021 23:02

Yes.

So much so, i ate my dinner in the bedroom because the kitchen hasnt got blinds i can pull and the sound of the wind in the dark scares me alot

AlexaShutUp · 10/03/2021 23:03

I love it. I generally listen to "storm sounds" on Alexa as I'm going to sleep every night, but it's much better when there are real ones outside!Grin

weegiemum · 10/03/2021 23:04

No, but when I was a teacher it was up there with snow for making kids hyper - and that was in secondary. No idea how bad it must be in primary.

I lived in the Outer Hebrides for 10 years, your lily-livered, mainlander "wind" doesn't affect me!GrinGrin

WhitecoatsinWhiteall · 10/03/2021 23:04

I like it until there's a shifting clink clunk above my head. What it means, I don't know.

LeviAckerman · 10/03/2021 23:05

I both love it and hate it.

I love the sound and could happily lie in bed listening but now I own my own home I hate it as I worry about damage. It was much more fun when I rented. Grin

Chimeraforce · 10/03/2021 23:07

Yes.

TalktotheFoot · 10/03/2021 23:07

I don't like windy weather. Sets my teeth on edge and makes me uneasy.

selectabo · 10/03/2021 23:11

I find the noise too irritating. On windy nights my sleep is very broken and I can not really fall into a deep sleep as the noise keep my brain awake..

cissyandbessy · 10/03/2021 23:12

I used to love it when I lived in a mid terrrace house. Felt all cosy and snug and there was no movement at all. Since moving to a semi exposed on 3 sides to the elements and with chimneys am terrified and can't sleep for hopefully irrational fear of the chimney crashing down and splatting me in my bed. I thought I'd get used to it but have t and have to sleep downstairs on nights like this. Feels like the whole house gets buffeted with the wind coming up the hill and the howling noise down chimneys gives me the right willies.

lastqueenofscotland · 10/03/2021 23:13

I personally don’t mind it but several years ago used to ride racehorses for a living, and I DREADED the windy days then so much.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 10/03/2021 23:15

@DareIask

Does anyone know when it's likely to stop?
Our local forecast is worse tomorrow (50mph) and 30-40mph all weekend.

I'm on the coast though.

Marpan · 10/03/2021 23:16

@kateemo

Yes. Because I grew up in South Florida with hurricanes. High wind is absolutely frightening.
Florida lightening Shock
TheOrigRights · 10/03/2021 23:17

No, I don't find it scary (unless it's really bad), more an inconvenience.

I went for a run late evening - got blown really fast one way, but knew I'd have to fight it coming back towards home!

I got new windows and doors for my house last year (replacing wood) so it's nice and cosy inside.

PopcornPeacock · 10/03/2021 23:27

Sounds like a dragon is stamping around out here whilst pounding the floor with its tail - its horrendous!

bitheby · 10/03/2021 23:28

I live in a 300 year old cottage and have ducks and chickens in coops and runs outside and some very ramshackle sheds. So yes, I find windy weather a bit of a worry. I hope everything is intact in the morning!

Blueberries0112 · 10/03/2021 23:31

Yes, we got hit with Derecho (u.S east coast in case you ask) years ago, a lot of property damages.
And hurricanes that that head toward us always caused some flooding but I am lucky I don’t live on a flood zone

TwoZeroTwoZero · 10/03/2021 23:33

I love listening to the wind and rain on the windows. In fact I listen to 10 hour long YouTube videos of wind, rain and thunderstorms through my sleepmask at night because it's so relaxing.

I am in a house with a decent, new roof without a chimney though with no large trees nearby so I don't worry about damage to it or us inside.

It's a bit of a pain at work though; children seem to go crackers when they've been playing outside in the wind!

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 10/03/2021 23:35

I love it. Makes me feel cosseted, warm, safe and secure. I open the windows when it’s stormy at night. .

CatsMother66 · 10/03/2021 23:40

@BigTallyWacker @Sh05 me too! In my last house I could hear the corner of the roof creaking in the wind as I lay in bed. I couldn’t sleep there as I would also imaging the roof ripping off!
I spent many a windy night sleeping downstairs on the sofa where I couldn’t hear the wind!
