The word "Discuss" at the end of a title.

I have always found it really strange that people put the word Discuss at the end of a title or perhaps at the end of the question they are asking. This is a discussion site isn't it? Isn't the whole point of every post to initiate a discussion? What purpose does adding this extra instruction serve. I find it so strange and its as if the person is barking out an order. Is it just me (probably is).

I don't see it that often here tbh but when it does they get piled on for the same reasons you have just shared

Fifthtimelucky · 09/03/2021 12:35

It just reminds me of writing essays!

YoniAndGuy · 09/03/2021 12:36

Yep, pompous pleased with themselves style that always guarantees that a. OP is pulverised and b. there is no discussion, because, well, FUCK YOU Grin

MagentaRocks · 09/03/2021 12:38

Annoys me too. Also when at the end of the post they put ‘reader, I .....’

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 09/03/2021 12:38

Oh, I've just seem the thread you're thinking of! Yes, it's extremely annoying and I'm surprised nobody has called it out yet. (It's in Chat)

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/03/2021 12:39

AIBU to ask whether people prefer the javelin, shot putt or some other Olympic throwing event?

Discus Grin

Cosmos45 · 09/03/2021 12:40

@MagentaRocks oh yes.. the whole "reader I married him" Confused (I don't give a shite if you did or didn't TBH). Cringe

I hate it. To me it's super bossy, commandering and militant 'do as you are told'.

Vthirtyone · 09/03/2021 12:43

I hate it when people put on FB 'recommendations for a cheap plumber.. and go!' like I am falling over myself to be the first one to recommend Trevor or whoever. Always want to write FUCK OFF to them too!

TheChampagneGalop · 09/03/2021 12:44

It's usually a sign of a GF.

TheChampagneGalop · 09/03/2021 12:45

They come in, say something controversial, end it with discuss, then hope for chaos.

LittlestBoho · 09/03/2021 12:49

I love when the OPs write 'discuss' and then get absolutely torn to shreds by everyone in the thread. It's a proper, old style mumsnet feeding frenzy. Makes me all nostalgic. Smile

FollowingFlitwick · 09/03/2021 12:52

Haha Grin poor ol' trev!
Wotrewelookinat · 09/03/2021 13:24

My immediate reaction is ‘Don’t command me to do something!’ and I don’t bother with the thread!

EssexLioness · 09/03/2021 13:38

Hate it and find it really rude. Worse though, I see a lot on Facebook some people just write ‘go’ instead. Winds me up and I never engage in those discussions. Basic manners don’t hurt anyone

AdditionalCharacter · 09/03/2021 13:44

There used to be a troll who would pop up every so often and start threads about a random celebrity of their choosing, the title would always read Discuss.

Wonder what happened to them?

StepOutOfLine · 09/03/2021 13:47

I just want to post childishly "no, shan't" and stamp my feet.
I always imagine a teacher from Malory Towers with a pince-nez and a big stick.

AnneLovesGilbert · 09/03/2021 13:49

It’s rude and lazy. If you want to discuss it open with a bloody opinion.

grapewine · 09/03/2021 13:51

It's very annoying. So is 'just that, really.'

Duggeehugs82 · 09/03/2021 13:53

I hate it too

NoIWontBloodyGo · 09/03/2021 13:58

Same with writing "Go" after asking a question or for a recommendation.

Worse is the posters who actually start "discussing" without question like they're following the teacher's orders in school.

I just leave a 🤦🏼‍♀️ for both the OP and those discussing then click off. If posters are already following orders, my "No, you discuss!" or "No i won't!" matters not anymore.

6079SmithW · 09/03/2021 14:12

Definitely reminiscent of school essays and quite rude. It's lazy too. If you want a conversation then start a conversation. Don't expect others to start it for you.

TeaAddict235 · 09/03/2021 19:28

Sometimes they are journalists or marketing staff looking for opinions on their products

Downthefarm · 09/03/2021 23:28

I find it rude.

PickAChew · 09/03/2021 23:29

I find it extremely bossy. It's like a 1980s exam question.
