Anyone want to furnish a rather retro dolls house.... ? I particularly love that the food that came with the fridge was two uncooked joints of meat (one piece definitely some rolled brisket for a pot roast, other I'm not entirely sure) Grin

I've still got an orange plastic measuring jug from the 70s. It was one of the items DM gave me when I went to uni, it's now the dog washing jug.Grin

I think I had that exact furniture. I got a lovely Dolls House one Christmas and there were lots of sets you could buy for it - wish I could remember the brand. I'm 50, soon to be 51 so exact same era.

rookiemere · 08/03/2021 11:16

Just googled it - Lundby.

My uncle and aunt had orange kitchen cupboards in the 70s.

@Sadik

Spot on *@ginghamstarfish* - I'm 51 :)

I think the dolls I had with the house were never very satisfactory, they weren't quite the right size for anything & I mainly played with it just with the furniture & no inhabitants.

It did indeed have brick effect external walls, 'tiled' roof + a little chimney that always fell off.

My dad made it for me, & I'm kind of sad it fell apart eventually, but it did get very well used before that stage!

I was only a decade out Wink

Lovely thread!

I had very similar dolls' house furniture in the 80s. It was put into a wooden house made for me by my (joiner) grandfather, who could make the most amazing wooden toys. The furniture was all out of scale, which amused me when I got it out again as an adult, but kids simply don't notice that kind of thing.

Anyone ever read the lovely story 'The Dolls' House' by Katherine Mansfield? The little house was so vividly described it made me want one just like it (and I didn't read this until adulthood). Especially the wonderful description of the little lamp.

CatChant · 08/03/2021 15:39

I love Katherine Mansfield's "The Dolls House". It's a story that stays with you and the description of the dolls house is so complete down to the minutest detail, that I'm sure she was describing a real one that she and her sisters had owned.

Some years ago a dolls house based on her description was made to go on display at her birthplace in Wellington. You can see it here. You can also see they didn't forget the spinach green paint that so offended Beryl.

TroysMammy · 08/03/2021 16:50

I must be positively ancient from the style of furniture in my dolls house Grin.

If you are on Facebook Sadik there are quite a few dolls house and miniature pages on there including people who have Lundby houses.

That's a much classier dolls house than mine ever was TroysMammy !

Thanks, it's an expensive but enjoyable hobby. I wouldn't pay £7 for a full sized pastry brush but I'd pay it for a 1/12 size one that will never be used.

Rubyupbeat · 08/03/2021 17:55

That is lundby and dol toi furniture, 1960s.
I collect this era, plus the houses, tri ang, Lundby.
Mainly as its reminiscent of my dolls house from young.
Theres lots of lovely stuff on ebay. My friend buys me a lot, as her and her brother are vintage toy dealers, so go to auctions.
I still get a feeling in my stomach when a house is lit up and I look through the window.

TillyTopper · 08/03/2021 17:58

I had that sink! I am 55, I don't know if that's close to your age or not.

Blyatiful · 08/03/2021 18:00
  1. I had that furniture in my doll’s house.
Gerla · 08/03/2021 18:01

My dad made me a dolls house too - it had little (working) light switches in every room. I wish I had looked after it better so I could have passed it on - but then again DD has never played with the lovely dolls house she did get, so perhaps not.

Gerla · 08/03/2021 18:02

Troysmammy - that's beautiful!

Laeta · 08/03/2021 18:06

I remember going to get my doll's house in Dundee. A man had made it for me. It was sooo exciting trying to get it in the back of my dad's new Ford Capri!

Wow! That's a memory I'd forgotten. Thanks OP lovely thread!

Tanaqui · 08/03/2021 18:21

@CatChant, I loved that story but I felt so sorry for the mice! I am very much your age Sadik (as I think I knew from discussing children's books once!), and I had a lovely dolls house someone had made (for my mum!), but I desperately wanted the white plastic Sindy house my best friend had!!

Iamthewombat · 08/03/2021 18:27

I wish that Five Dolls in a House was back in print. What a story. The little girl who owns the dolls’ house shrinks to doll size and visits her dolls. They call her Mrs Small and pay rent in cough drops.

SoMuchToBits · 08/03/2021 18:40

Oh I had that book when I was a child. I loved that one of the dolls was a "paying guest"!

Iamthewombat · 08/03/2021 18:44

Jacqueline. Paid 40 cough drops a week.

SoMuchToBits · 08/03/2021 18:46

What were the names of all the other dolls? I remember Vanessa and Lupin...

TheSockMonster · 08/03/2021 18:48

My dad made it for me, & I'm kind of sad it fell apart eventually, but it did get very well used before that stage!

I’d be really happy if something I’d made for my DC survived not only their childhood but their DC’s childhoods. It’s done exactly what it was designed to do and done it well!

I was obsessed with Sylvanian Familes during my 1980s childhood. Tried but failed to get my own DC into them I still harbour secret dreams of collecting them

We amassed huge amounts of playmobil instead which has recently been handed down to DNs.

waltzingparrot · 08/03/2021 18:48

Red & white kitchen - that's the epitome of 1980s

CatChant · 08/03/2021 18:50

...Jane, Amanda and the Monkey.

By Helen Clare. I adored that series.

SoMuchToBits · 08/03/2021 18:50

We have huge amounts of Playmobil too! Ds is 20 now, but I still get it out, use it, make scenes and add to it...
