Before we went into tier 4, I was meant to buy new school shoes for DS but it didn't happen. Now I realise the day before that he doesn't have school shoes that fit. Is it OK to send him in with normal shoes tomorrow? I have bought him some shoes off Amazon and guessed his size but they don't arrive for a while

I’m sending mine in their trainers until theirs arrive

notdaddycool · 07/03/2021 21:23

Depending on age and school give him a note blaming yourself, but fine, there are bigger problems in the world right now.

Bunnybigears · 07/03/2021 21:24

Depends if you mean primary or secondary. Primary no problem, secondary depends how strict they decide to be.

missymoomoomoomoomoo · 07/03/2021 21:24

He is year 4

Year 4 no problem. My year 6 has worn black trainers all the way through primary.

Easterbunnygettingready · 07/03/2021 21:26

Dd year 10 has 1 shoe.. Dpuppy ate 1.

ekidmxcl · 07/03/2021 21:27

I doubt any member of staff teaching Y4 will give a shit

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/03/2021 21:27

I had to try two supermarkets this weekend. I succeeded today.

They fit two weeks ago.

She grew out the pair before in the November lockdown. That pair was bought in February last year...

BabbleBee · 07/03/2021 21:27

Trainers and a note. It’ll be fine and he won’t be the only one.

missymoomoomoomoomoo · 07/03/2021 21:28

His normal shoes are black but with big emblems on them. Kicking myself I wasn't quick enough to buy him some before but I wanted to get his feet measured

Mine is in year 11. He'll be wearing jeans and trainers. I'm not replacing anything. They will understand.

Hensintheskirting · 07/03/2021 21:30

What is the worst that can happen?

DelurkingAJ · 07/03/2021 21:31

DS2’s infant school have sent a message to everyone saying not to worry if this happens but please to send them in practical shoes. They’re fab and have been sensible throughout this mess (I would therefore expect the same from other schools!).

Herbador · 07/03/2021 21:32

Our school has already sent an email telling us that if school uniform doesn't fit then to do our best and not to worry. Thankfully since September they've also binned the idea of school shoes too, and told us to send them in wearing practical shoes that can be worn outside for running around in. I wouldn't worry too much - it's not like you can just pop to the shops and buy new ones, is it

missymoomoomoomoomoo · 07/03/2021 21:38

Thanks everyone, put my mind at ease. DS is ASD as well so it really matters that he feels shoes/clothes before he agrees to wear them so here's hoping for the shoes that are being delivered!

We've had a message from school to say if school shoes don't fit send kids in trainers until you get sorted. So you must be far from the only one in this situation op don't worry Flowers

Lou898 · 07/03/2021 21:55

I work in a primary and have had several emails saying parents are unable to get shoes, trousers, jumpers. It’s a primary and we have agreed to be lenient with uniform for the first 2 weeks to allow people to get hold of uniform. After that we will be expect uniform to be worn in full.
Think most primaries will be ok about this.

Justajot · 07/03/2021 21:55

We had a faintly arsy email from our primary school pretty soon after the reopening timetable was announced telling us that supermarkets are open and sell shoes and uniform, so they expected full uniform. If your school hasn't said that then you're probably fine.

I'd rather our school took a more pragmatic approach like other schools.

MollysMummy2010 · 07/03/2021 22:13

We also had a letter home on Friday from the HT saying trainers were fine if shoes didn’t fit and nothing would be said to children.

WolfHunter · 07/03/2021 22:17

I'm in secondary and we've been told to give everyone a chance to get uniform sorted. Our head in very understanding.

itsgettingwierd · 07/03/2021 22:23

I've been 100% supportive of schools through this as they've faced some huge risks and challenges and managed to set up a whole new way of learning.

Mh mind will change PDQ if they start fussing over uniform, hair cuts and shoes.

MuddyWalks · 07/03/2021 22:32

For the future it's really worth buying a foot measure. You can measure their size and width yourself and buy shoes over the internet.

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 07/03/2021 22:33

Our school has actually sent emails telling parents not to worry too much about uniform/shoes. As long as they're appropriate (including for the weather and windows open) it's all good. Preferably as close as possible to school colours.

Theunamedcat · 07/03/2021 22:42

@Hensintheskirting

What is the worst that can happen?
Detention according to my sons school they will increase the punishment until I provide suitable school shoes so he will get after school Detention and miss the bus home he cant actually walk home his hypermobility makes that extremely painful it also makes it impossible to wear supermarket shoes ive ordered two pairs of shoes the one doesn't fit if the second pair doesn't fit he is pulling a sick day till I can get him shoes
SquirtleSquad · 07/03/2021 22:42

Our school sent an email saying they know children will have grown, money may be tight and uniform shops less accessible so just do our best to send them looking smart and in as much uniform or home clothes close to uniform as possible including shoes. They've just asked for no denim and sensible shoes (no bright colours, sliders or flip flops)
