Imagine sitting on a balcony, in the heat, with a book and a coffee

Bloody hell, I miss going on holiday.

@WrongKindOfFace

I hate flying. Hate it. But right now I’d fly the bloody plane myself if it meant leaving this plague island and feeling the sun on my face.

In real life though I’ll probably just go to a different supermarket for a change of scene.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

That about sums it up!

I've just had a shower & I'm lying on my bed, on a towel, in the sun (it's quite cold out, but warm inside & the sun is lovely) and i can almost imagine I'm in Greece, on the beach. Bliss....

cptartapp · 07/03/2021 17:03

Yes! Drying my freshly washed hair in the sun whilst DH showers and the DC lie on their beds chilling on screens after a day at the beach.
Best days of my life.

poorbuthappy · 07/03/2021 17:11

We are hoping for Cornwall in August.
For the rest of summer we are having new decking and outdoor furniture so we can enjoy being at home more too.

BeatricePrior · 07/03/2021 17:11

I'm sat on a plastic chair on the balcony, reading a book, letting my hair dry curly, texting and reading.

My dD is sat next to me waiting for her hair

Omg I can literally smell the coconut oil that people wear to tan.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 07/03/2021 17:14

It's a really lovely day here - sunny, not windy, sky is blue and I can see a lot of beautiful mountains and hills. But it's 5°C outside! I don't really like the heat and don't seek out beach holidays but I would be very glad to warm my bones right now!

Pedallleur · 07/03/2021 17:15

You still can. However coming back might be an issue. People are still flying to places.

Splann · 07/03/2021 17:16

“I want to drink a glass of wine in the country in which the grape was grown” - or something to that effect as it’s been a while since I watched Shirley Valentine. And Cornwall doesn’t count!

JMAngel1 · 07/03/2021 17:17

A glass of Aperol Spritz and some savoury salty snacks and olives.
All dressed up nice, suntan, hair smelling of the lake air.
Then a gorgeous lakeside promenade to a restaurant on a boat.

I AM GOING to Lake Garda in June Grin

8090sTv · 07/03/2021 17:19

I just sat on the beach, it was lovely. In SE UK, not that cold, people eating ice cream:)

Howyoualldoworkme · 07/03/2021 17:22

JMAngel1 So am I! We got there last October with no problems or ill effects so we're blooming well getting there in June!
When I get really fed up I just take myself in my mind to our lovely hotel next to the lake and it keeps me going Smile

Deathraystare · 07/03/2021 17:22

Coffee? Coffee? It would be a cocktail!

purrswhileheeats · 07/03/2021 17:23

I actually sat on my balcony this afternoon in the sun with a glass of wine Grin I saw lizards scuttling around in the sunshine too 😎

I'd swap it all to see my mum and dad though 😢

CallforHecate · 07/03/2021 17:29

In Greece. At a little beach bar next to the blue blue sea. With a little plate of stuffed vine leaves and some calamari. And a glass of Mythos. I’ve just got out after a swim and the salt is drying on my skin .... aaaaaaaargh 🤤😭 if I close my eyes I can FEEL that I’m there. Thanks OP I will probably dream about this tonight now .... 😫

Echobelly · 07/03/2021 17:33

We've booked a half term break in Shropshire in half term, really hoping that can come off. Don't know if there will be heat, but it will be a lovely change of scene!

@CallforHecate yes yes yes

Sitting on the steps of the swimming pool in the villa, body submerged in the water, kindle in hand and a lovely glass of cold lemonade by my side. That lemonade you get in Cyprus that's so bloody sweet a spoon could stand up in it. My DP is sunbathing over there. Every so often ill put my kindle down and have a little swim across the pool to fish out an impossibly huge ant and put it on the side so it can dry off. Dip my shoulders in and feel the cold water hit my sunburned skin. Stick my head under and feel the cold water wash over my toasty head. Later we'll have halloumi and souvla at the local taverna

CallforHecate · 07/03/2021 17:47

@JeffTheOracle I can see we have similar taste in holidays ...

Strugglingtodomybest · 07/03/2021 17:48

I'm in Cornwall and was lying out on a sunlounger earlier with my kindle and a cup of tea. Ok so I had thermal socks, slippers, trackie bottoms, thermal vest, jumper and scarf on, but I was still soaking up the sun on my face!

Lipz · 07/03/2021 17:52

God I could cry. We're meant to be going to Orlando at Easter, this is our 2nd time cancelled. I was only saying to dh, walking out of Orlando Airport and feeling that fabulous heat on your face, getting to the hotel and flinging the bags in and heading out for our first nights dinner. Stopping off in wallgreens for bits and pieces and back to the hotel for some drinks all excited about going to Universal the next morning. Jesus I'm so missing it.

cricketmum84 · 07/03/2021 17:53

Sitting out on the balcony with a sangria and a good book while DH and DC get showered and changed ready for evening out. I miss holidays so much!

IsAnybodyListening · 07/03/2021 17:57

Me too!

Our last family holiday was to Greece in 2019. I was talking about it with DP the other night, saying my favourite memory from the holiday was the 4 of us swimming in the beautiful sea, and looking back at the sandy beaches. The sea was calm and beautiful, we could walk what seemed far out and still only have little waves waist length. Little fishes swarming past and watching teen DC's snorkel with them.

Coming back to shore for an ice cold drink from a beach hut then hiring a little paddle boat and going back in the sea..................

I miss holidays.

CantGetNoSleep73 · 07/03/2021 18:19

Loving the fact most of us holidayed in Greece -
It's my fave place too, and was our last family holiday abroad in 2019. I would love nothing more than to just teleport there right now.

CallforHecate · 07/03/2021 18:30

The sea that you can float in so easily (because the salt content is so high) ... and it’s so clear. Anyone else ever do a later flight back, so after you check out you’ve still got time to have one last lunch and a swim? Getting off the plane in the evening with damp hair still smelling of the sea ... god I miss it so much.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 07/03/2021 18:50

@Echobelly If you’ve not been before you will fall madly in love with Shropshire. It’s the loveliest little patch in England. Just don’t tell folks about it, we’re mostly undiscovered and nice and quiet.

In my mind I’m sitting at a beautiful rooftop bar in Rome with an Aperol Spritz in hand before I go for a late night wander through the city stopping off for gelato.
