How old were you when you stopped putting your parents on a pedestal?

How old were you when you realised your mum, or dad, made mistakes, didn't have all the answers, and didn't have it all figured out?

Embarrassingly it wasn't until my early 20s for me Blush Up until that point I thought my mum was Gods gift (single mum, didn't really know my dad), but she had a good way of keeping me under her thumb so I never questioned her or looked at her as just another human being. Now I can see that I actually don't really like her as a person (but I do of course love her), for example if she was a colleague, I really wouldn't have time for her.

6, when they forgot to put out Santas sack 😂

Later, 10 when I saw domestic violence.

This thread makes me sad as I realised how little I really respected them.

I think mine are still on their pedestal and won't ever come down.

I know they have their flaws but they recognize them and appreciate them. They're a team and have been for 47 years. They're in their early 70s now, still having adventures together, still loving life, still laughing and supporting each other.

They stayed on the pedestal throughout my younger brothers death to cancer because I saw how they held each other (and my sister and I up).

My parents are perfect to me, despite not being perfect people. As a parent, I try and live up to their example but will no doubt fall short!

10 years old. I grew up very quickly when my father left us.
