Scottish lockdown in late may/early June

Bumpsadaisie · 07/03/2021 08:35

Hello I was wondering if some Scots can tell me what the Scottish lockdown rules will be from 29 may to 4 June (the English may half term)?

We're in Cumbria but visiting Aberdeenshire then and wondering whether museums etc will be open. Can't really find a "Scottish roadmap" by Googling ....

I wonder why.

OP, we do not know.

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/03/2021 08:40

No road map really and no idea if travelling will be "allowed" or if anything will be open etc etc.

Welcome to Gilead.

I hope you get your trip and that they see sense and match the English plans. Otherwise, look at that plan add a couple of weeks and some weird tweak for tweaks sake and you shouldn't be too far wrong.

I think the expectation is that we will be back in a tiers situation by then.

Vetyveriohohoh · 07/03/2021 08:41

You can’t find one because their isn’t one.
Other than a vague statement that we’ll go back to tiers there no indication as to when travel will be allowed or if travel between tiers will be allowed etc

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/03/2021 08:41

We are hoping to be in Cumbria a couple of weeks after you are here. :)

dementedpixie · 07/03/2021 08:43

You know as much as we do tbh

Crookairroad · 07/03/2021 08:43

We don’t know. We don’t know if non essential travel will be permitted then. I can’t visit family in Edinburgh at the moment so Cumbria to Aberdeen isn’t allowed but who knows. That May all be change.

As the above poster said, I think we will come out of lockdown and straight back into the tier system with not much change to what we’ve got for a couple of weeks.

FelicityPike · 07/03/2021 08:43

The Scottish Government don’t want to get people’s hopes up, so they’re doing it bit by bit.
Tiers will probably be in place, so look at tiers 2 (ever hopeful!!), 3 (more realistic) and 4 (hopefully not but you never know), for an idea of what MIGHT be open.

rookiemere · 07/03/2021 08:45

@Bumpsadaisie I think provided you can make your way across the border - scottish government being very coy about when we should be able to travel again - on those dates, I'd hope that most things would be open.

If we retain the tier system it's likely that restaurants won't serve alcohol and will close early.

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/03/2021 08:46

Well the rumour is that we'll be using the WHO guidance for tiers, but without using the WHO measurement so if that continues to be the case, no one will be getting close to tier 2. Under the original guidelines, most of the country could be in 2 or 1 now.

rookiemere · 07/03/2021 08:47

Oh and only book cancellable to be on the safe side.
Main issue with Tier system is that Tier 3 & Tier 4 doesn't allow travel in or out.
I sincerely hope there will be no tier system by the end of May, or if there is everywhere will be in Tier 2, but none of us knows.

This is a link to the latest guidance - for what it's worth, I think your trip will be fine. It's one of the lowest prevalence areas at the moment and by May/ June we will all be further through the vaccination programme.

Nice! We are all gearing up here already. Folk walking out in big groups up and down our lane already, all our friends going slightly crazy buying kayaks and paddleboards as if we are going to be actually IN the lakes all summer!

Hope the weather is good for you - best time of year usually ...

That would explain it ... Grin

It all sounds very vague compared to the English one I must say ....

I hope wee Nicola doesn't throw some kind of googly that means we can't go!

Got travel insurance ... so not the end of the world if we can't ...
but we really wanted to go in the V&A in Dundee and the maritime museum in Aberdeen plus Wagamama .... we live in the sticks at home so our eyes are popping out our heads for the thought of some culture and mass produced japanese food Grin

Thanks - will check that out.

We were near Dundee in August 2020 and the V&A didn't reopen until just after we left so we are really hoping we can go this year.

No one knows about England either it is just sturgeon doesn't bullshit about covid as much as Johnson.

theotherfossilsister · 07/03/2021 11:09

I really hope you're allowed. Sadly the Scottish Government really doesn't have a track record for liking joy and happiness. Edinburgh are back to tier two levels as of yesterday even by the SNP's tougher definition, but I doubt we'll be on tier two any time soon. Aberdeen is also quite low but didn't vote SNP en masse, so might be punished.

Really hope I'm wrong. I miss Cumbria, which is where I grew up before moving here for university in and staying.

^This^

Whatever you think you know about the "English roadmap" is meaningless. The dates for relaxing the rules are all tied up with qualifiers - if this happens then that might happen, hoping that things will be better, and other such bullshit. The roadmap isn't so much a map as a vision - and like a lot of visions, there is quite a bit of a gap between that and reality. Don't assume anything.

peak2021 · 07/03/2021 11:13

Not only do you not know but it is not 100% certain that the SNP will be in government by then- there is the Scottish Parliament election beforehand.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 07/03/2021 11:17

V & A Dundee will be open if the rules allow.
Historic Scotland was slow to open smaller properties so I wouldn't bank on that.
Lots of lovely outdoor things to do in Aberdeenshire and eg fishmongers on the North Coast (one of my favourite things about the area) should be open or at least they will be allowed to be open. Ours is here in Angus.

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/03/2021 11:32

We love the Lake District. We managed 4 days in October and had an actual meal in a pub with an actual alcoholic drink. We usually try to go at least once a year. Sometimes it's our main holiday and other times it would be Easter or October. I think we are due home the day Boris has planned to open everything but I'm not bothered. If we can get a couple of meals out and a trip to my beloved Booths and a few strolls about, I'll be happy. DH and boys would love for the karting to be open.

Yay. I'm eating a meat and potato pie in Booths car park at this very moment.

My family are unaware.

Lovely to meet another Cumbrian. We moved back up from down south when my eldest was born. X
