What do you use your kitchen aid for?

Think of getting one as my husband makes dough every week for his pizza oven.

But ... it seems an extravagant purchase for a once a week dough making ritual. I'm not a massive baker either tbh - I do make meals from scratch though sometimes and I'm happy to be inspired!

So, if you have one, please tell me why you love it and what you do with it

Pretty much exclusively baking. I do use it to make bread dough, but also cakes, cookies, and other bakes. It’s a good machine but unless you have other attachments (pasta maker, mincer, which I don’t) then it’s really a baking thing.

Vetyveriohohoh · 04/03/2021 22:43

Cakes
Meringue
Dough of any kind
Shortbread mix
Mashed potato
Mostly cakes

onyourway · 04/03/2021 22:44

DareIask · 04/03/2021 22:45

Pastry
Bread
Pizza dough
Cakes (a lot)
Mashed potato
Whisking cream

Expensive but lovely 😊

Whattodo121 · 04/03/2021 22:46

Everything! I love my kitchenaid, it’s brilliant. I’m a keen baker, so make loads of bread, cake etc etc

nimbuscloud · 04/03/2021 22:46

Cakes
Biscuits
General doughy stuff

SophieGiroux · 04/03/2021 22:47

Mashed potato, what a great idea! I've mainly used mine for cakes and biscuits but also got a free ice cream maker attachment and have used that (once).
Do you use the whisk for mash?

AtticusF1nch · 04/03/2021 22:47

Thanks guys!

So really I need a mincer and a pasta maker attachment then to make it totally worth while?

If you only need it for dough then argos sell a hand mixer with a dough attachment (just mentioning it as an option)
But the kitchen aid is beautiful. I am saving for one. Mainly baking

AtticusF1nch · 04/03/2021 22:47

I think harts of stur have it cheapest at the moment - I'd quite like the ice cream bowl!

I just tip in the potatoes, use the normal beater and add whatever you usually would. Our current favourite being horseradish

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 04/03/2021 22:50

I love mine! Mayonnaise is much easier, also make cakes, pastry and bread dough

DareIask · 04/03/2021 22:51

I got an ice cream bowl as a freebie... it's still in the box Blush
Stickytreacle · 04/03/2021 22:52

I only use it for bread dough and christmas cakes, I prefer a hand mixer for cakes and mashed potato only takes a quick beat with a hand whisk, it isn't worth washing the kitchenaid afterwards for it. It looks pretty though, but it didn't revolutionise my baking!

RestingPandaFace · 04/03/2021 22:52

In the last few weeks, pizza dough, chocolate brownies, whipped cream, marshmallows, pasta.

I have the ice cream bowl but it’s actually really impractical as it only fits in the freezer if it can have a drawer to itself, and I don’t think the ice-cream was brilliant to be honest.

Etinox · 04/03/2021 22:52

No need for attachments. I use mine most days. As pp have said, mash, dough, batter, cakes, icing, meringues, whipping cream and aquafaba, dips. I used it this evening to make bread crumbs.
I probably only make a cake a fortnight but dough for pitta/ pizza/ dough balls a couple of times a week, mash a couple then various random usages such as breadcrumbs or meringues. It’s beautiful so unlike a processor it stays out and doesn’t have to be lugged in and out of a cupboard each time.

fitflopqueen · 04/03/2021 22:53

Mine must be about 15 years old now, in a dark blue colour. I use for bread dough, cakes and batter. Looks very nice on the worktop next to my old sweetshop scales.

ShakespearesSisters · 04/03/2021 22:54

For mash I steam my potatoes (they don't go all sludgy if you oversteam compared to boiling) then i just chicken in the kitchen aid with butter, a splash of milk or cream if I have it and I'm feeling indulgent and some salt. I tend to use the white mixing paddle rather than the whisk. So smooth.

DeRigueurMortis · 04/03/2021 23:04

I use the attachments more than the mixer if I'm honest.

I have ones for pasta, the mincer, strainer (for juices/purée) and graters/slicers.

The big advantage as a pp said is that as it's an attractive piece of kit it stays on the counter so it's always accessible.

The only other piece of kit I use is my Bamix blender (mainly for soups/whisking small amounts of cream and grinding spices with the grinder bowl).

I like that because it's small and takes up hardly any space.

I also have the Kitchen Aid Food Processer but found with KA mixer/attachments and Bamix it never gets used (think I last used it 3 years ago) so I'm thinking of selling it or seeing if my mum wants it.

GreatTeaMonkey · 04/03/2021 23:07

Buy it! I use mine about twice a month so way less then you would. We use it for pizza dough and baking I love it. May give mash a go in it!

MacDuffsMuff · 04/03/2021 23:07

Pizza dough
Bread
Rolls
Cakes
Biscuits
Meringues
Shredded chicken

I use it most days.
