I had planned on this colour scheme for my sitting room - until my friend remarked on the similarity of the colour of the suite to baby poo

And now I'm having second thoughts! I see gold, she sees breastfed baby poo. Please can I have your opinions?!

I'm sticking with the navy and white wall colours, it's just the sofa I'm dithering about. If you agree with my friend, what alternative colour sofa do you think would look good?

I liked it so much I have saved the photo.

We have gold velvet chairs so it must be my style.

Embroideredstars · 04/03/2021 22:22

I'm with your friend I'm afraid, now it's been said I can't unsee it!

How about a deep rich, teal, plum, purple or peacock blue? All would look good with those walls

Embroideredstars · 04/03/2021 22:24

@Ironmanrocks great minds and all that! Wink

I'm sorry, the couch is fine but those dark walls will make the room really gloomy particularly in Winter.

bettyskitchen · 04/03/2021 22:37

The pic is essentially my living room 😂 I have a mustard velvet sofa from Next and love it. No one has made negative comments about the colour (to my face haha) it gets a lot of love

Renlay · 04/03/2021 22:38

Thank you so much for all your opinions.

I think most of them were positive with a fair few "if you like it go for it". I do like it (didn't realise it was a current trend though!) so perhaps I'll stick to the original plan. Although I do like the idea of orange or hot pink ...

@ReverendRicketyCricket I haven't bought the paint yet but it's a B & Q one apparently called Deep Sea Blue.

I really like it but if you can’t unsee it I’d go for an oatmeal coloured sofa.

Assuming you have no children, pets and only drink water.

Kimye4eva · 04/03/2021 22:40

Looks great OP, especially in that fabric. Go for it!

coronafiona · 04/03/2021 22:40

Blush pink would look nice with navy and white?

Renlay · 04/03/2021 22:41

It's a picture from an Instagram account - I don't do Instagram but my Dd sent it to me thinking I'd like it.

Thanks for the info re the Rocket st George group - will definitely take a look,

It's fine. Someone who has a tiny baby may make the association but nobody else will. Mine are primary age, I don't think about this stuff any more. It's a nice combo.

ChocOrange1 · 04/03/2021 22:43

@WineInTheWillows

Nah, my baby's poos have always been a much brighter colour than that.
Same
Renlay · 04/03/2021 22:45

Oh and yes, I did wonder if the blue might be too dark but it's a fairly bright/ light room. It's currently white with a faint hint of green and I want a change.

It's a bit "YouTube influencer".

SEE123 · 04/03/2021 23:09

Love it!

KizzyKat91 · 04/03/2021 23:13

I love it and think you should ignore her!

But if you really can’t get past her comment, what about mulberry or burgundy?

I have navy sofas and bought some mulberry velvet cushions for them on a whim. The colours go really well together :)

Bubbinsmakesthree · 05/03/2021 07:46

We have navy walls in a small north facing room but we were happy for it to feel dark and snug (which it does) - we used to have pale walls and I much prefer it now (but we have a big bright south facing room too so it’s a nice contrast - it might be a bit oppressive if it were our only reception room. I think navy does need a bright colour alongside to lift it.

I do really love it but I do see navy walls and mustard yellow all over Instagram!

hotsouple · 08/03/2021 23:35

A vibrant berry color would also be good!

Poppins2016 · 08/03/2021 23:57

I rather like it (which surprises me as it's not my usual taste, but I love the depth of colour, additionally enhanced by the blue).

The only catch, in my opinion, is that it's a very on trend colour and will date quickly.

Bloodybridget · 09/03/2021 01:12

The sofa is what I'd call old gold, and looks fantastic with the wall colour.
