How much is your weekly food shop?

Just curious really. For 2 adults and small child, ours is on average £60 per week - some weeks £70, some £50. We batch cook a lot as it’s hard to make fresh meals every night with small person.

Would be interested to hear anyone else’s?

@PattyPan

I genuinely don’t understand how a household that’s just two adults can regularly spend more than £100 a week. Is it steak and a bottle of wine every day? Confused When we were getting a supermarket delivery every week I was honestly struggling to make it up to £40. I don’t think I could spend £200 every week if I tried!
What do you eat for an average of just under £1 per meal per day?
Bookworm19 · 03/03/2021 10:58

2 adults, 2 small children, average of £120 a week but covers all meals and snacks, treats, butchers meat, organic eggs and dairy, nappies, wipes, specific dietary items for 1 child.

PattyPan · 03/03/2021 11:10

@Doireallyneedaname I shop at Sainsbury’s so not the cheapest out there!

@BarbaraofSeville that’s going out of your way to pick the most expensive things though, do people really eat these things every week? I don’t feel especially frugal but I wouldn’t want champagne on a regular basis - it wouldn’t feel special on special occasions!

@idontlikealdi porridge or peanut butter on toast for breakfast.
Soup or hummus and pitta bread for lunch. DP gets a quiche a week.
Common things we have for dinner are stir fry, lentil Bolognese, pesto pasta, dahl, 3 bean chilli, sausage and mash - I’m vegan and don’t go in for the meat/dairy alternatives, DP chooses to eat meat or fish once a week, which I’ll just add into his portion.
Fruit for snacks and a battenberg or cheese for DP.

*alternatives except for veggie sausages, that should say

JustDavesWife · 03/03/2021 11:15

2 adults and 2 kids (12 & 7) and we are averaging £180-£200 per week at Sainsbury's. It's ridiculous and I have no idea how to get it down!

MyHeroMakkaPakka · 03/03/2021 11:16

Just under 120 a week at asda. Two adults, 1 baby, 1 toddler, 1 cat.
That includes meat, a modest amount of booze, pet food, cleaning products and most of our toiletries. Takeaway date night for the two adults once a fortnight is about £25.

MedusasBadHairDay · 03/03/2021 11:23

£120-130 a week, 2 adults, 2 children. Tbf that includes toiletries, cleaning products etc.

I'd love to do Aldi shops, it'd be much cheaper but I can't manage walking around the shop. Getting food delivered is so useful as a disabled person, but definitely puts the bills up

changi · 03/03/2021 11:24

All in: food, drink, cleaning stuff, pet food etc. Around £400 a month. Two adult omnivores.

alwaysraining123 · 03/03/2021 11:26

£130/week for 2 adults, a toddler, and a primary school aged child. I know we could reduce our costs but to be honest trying out new food and having nice things is one of the small pleasures in life so we don't actively budget.

lubeybooby · 03/03/2021 11:31

3 adults (one of them a very fussy eater making it difficult), 2 cats and I've managed to get it down to £150 ish a week. Still experimenting with cheaper recipes that the fussy bugger will like and trying to get it down further (was about 200 a week before I decided that was madness)

That includes toiletries, cat food and litter, cleaning stuff etc

cannotfathom · 03/03/2021 11:34

Too much at the moment. We have two adult dc living here and it's usually about £150 a week at the moment. That includes toiletries/cleaning stuff etc. When it's just us two it's about £60-70. Saying that we have been having some really nice meals to treat ourselves because of the current situation.

MrDarcysMa · 03/03/2021 11:42

Spend about 180 pcm on groceries Inc cleaning products and toiletries, then £50-100 pcm on takeaways

MrDarcysMa · 03/03/2021 11:42

2 adults no dc forgot to add Confused

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 03/03/2021 11:47

We are 2 adults, a 4 year old and a 2 year old. We spend around £100-120 a week which includes cleaning products, toiletries, Nappies etc. We're vegan and like the meat substitutes, which are expensive. We also get most of our fruit and veg from the riverford organic boxes which pushes the price up.

IhaveNotBroughtMySpecsWithMe · 03/03/2021 11:49

Too much.

2 adults & 2 cats.

£140 a week all in.

Echobelly · 03/03/2021 11:52

About £110 a week at the moment with two adults, 9yo and 12yo all at home all week - would be cheaper (c£80) if going to Aldi but since lockdown have stuck to local Tesco, will start going to Aldi again when possible! Will go down a tad when kids go back to school next week.

BigPyjamas · 03/03/2021 11:56

We're about £500-£600 a month. 2 adults, 2 children and a cat.

We eat mostly from scratch.

That doesn't include wine or gin as we do big orders of that separately

bluechameleon · 03/03/2021 12:01

A bit over £100, 2 adults and 2 children. That doesn't include milk and we also get some of our cheese, yoghurt and a veg box delivered, which is about another £25 a week. Then we usually do a top up of bread and fruit during the week.

Doireallyneedaname · 03/03/2021 12:05

@PattyPan what about cleaning stuff and toiletries? On weeks when I don’t need these I can get it down to £100.

We cook from scratch, including the toddlers food.

hellohelpfuladvice · 03/03/2021 12:32

I can't believe £50 it's crazy. We cook from scratch apart from own brand fish fingers or that type of thing that we have once a week instead of a takeaway. We don't buy alcohol. We usually spend £100 at Tesco. Majority of stuff is own brand 😬

hellohelpfuladvice · 03/03/2021 12:33

Sorry 2 adults, 2 little ones under 5

hellohelpfuladvice · 03/03/2021 12:34

We top up fruit -and biscuits for about another £20 a week 😖

Brunt0n · 03/03/2021 12:36

Probably about £120 a week. 2 adults and a toddler. It’s gone up a lot since we’re eating all meals at home but obv we were spending more money on eating out then!

PattyPan · 03/03/2021 12:43

@Doireallyneedaname I use vinegar (50p) for everything except the toilet which £2.50 for toilet cleaner but that lasts months. I have an eco egg instead of laundry detergent. We also use bar soap and shampoo bars which last ages. I tend to get given nice soaps as presents too. Reusable sanpro. Own brand deodorant. I do buy more expensive natural toothpaste but bought a case of 12 tubes of toothpaste about 2 years ago which I’m still using! Loo roll I get a box from who gives a crap which lasts about a year. So both toiletries and cleaning products are pennies per week.

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/03/2021 12:44

£150-200 a week.3voracious teens and one adult plus 3cats.would be less as we don't eat take out and I don't drink alcohol, but are food allergies complicating costs
