Who (in the whole world, dead or alive) would you most like a coffee and a natter with?

I don't mean getting together with people we know post-Covid. Let's assume we're in 'normal times'...

I'm talking about spending an hour with anyone from any place and any time.

I have two (really quite different LOL):

  1. The lady who was the first person to own my house in 1901. It seems so 'near' to our time but life was so different for her. I would love to ask her all about her life, what my house looked like, what her political opinions were, what she imagined the future to be like.
  1. Jesus. Grin. I would love to ask how he convinced people that he'd done all those tricks and whether he's shocked that he's remembered (and worshipped!!) 2,000 years later.

What about you...

Ooh good question. Was going to say My favourite internet priest Fr Mike Schmitz because I reckon you could talk to him but I listen to him every day and would much rather say Jesus. That's a good one. I didn't find it goady or offensive. I think I'd ask quite similar questions just from a position of faith. Id quite like to chat to my gran too to ask her about a big family secret that I only found out after she died, but mainly just to see her and also I could ask her what it's like after you die.

Then there's always David Duchovny (my shallow choice).

Oh good question!!
If I can have two, I'd like

  1. Odysseus. I'd like to find out the truth about all his adventures, all the gods and heroes of the Trojan war and talk about Greece back in the day.
  2. My great grandmother Lucy (born in the 1880s). I'd love to find out about her life, what she really thought and felt about things, how it was living through seismic social change, and what she made of our lives as women today.

I do family history so any of a huge number of individuals about whom I know too little -- is who I'd choose. I would ask How many children did you have, who were your parents, how did your children die, how did your mother die, where were you born. Why did you immigrate and from where, etc.

I seem different from my parents or grandparents in many ways, I wonder if I met my great-grans or earlier ancestors if I would see something of myself in them to help explain.

My best friend, who died 6 years ago.

We spent so much time in coffee shops together, talking about the things we loved.

I miss her very much.

SleepingStandingUp · 02/03/2021 20:09

Dead: Mary, I want the mother's perspective

Alive: David Attenborough, about his travels not a lecture on killing turtles

BertieBotts · 02/03/2021 20:12

J.K. Rowling. I love her!

My cousin who died last year very suddenly and unexpectedly. I'd love to see her again just once more. Although it wouldn't be enough time.

Fuckadoodledoooo · 02/03/2021 20:15

Jesus or Paul McCartney

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 02/03/2021 20:28
