What kind do you have and what do you use it for?

Not since the Eighties.

pollywollydoodler · 01/03/2021 04:35

I do but it's retired and just contains my old diary/notes from the 80s-90s when I last used it. It is as overstuffed now as it was then Smile

Kez200 · 01/03/2021 04:44

Yes, I have 2. One a diary and one partitioned for three sets of connected work I do. This one has lined papers and dividers.

I buy A5 coloured ones on amazon (different colours for different years) and buy packs of paper and dividers separately.

Kez200 · 01/03/2021 04:46

Called filofax clipbooks

ItsDinah · 01/03/2021 04:57

Not as a diary but as a notebook full of useful information. Always with me and I find it handier for notes than a phone. Apart from addresses it has personal info about medical items, prescriptions, recipes, technical stuff about hobbies , instructions on how to troubleshoot or operate various items, passport no. ,insurance details and contacts, etc etc. I use it for shopping and present lists, travel and events details, parking codes, to do lists, foreign language vocabulary,MOT car servicing, and other recurrent dates. So many useful bits of info always readily to hand.

I bought mine when I had my DD over 30 years ago. Used daily until around ten years ago then retired it. More recently decided to use it again and I find it invaluable as a diary and seeing notes. I've recently moved and needing lots of different window measurements etc and I like seeing them written down. ( I also use notes on my iPhone but it's not the same)

DH has one. Pretty much all he puts in it are his work shifts (which he also puts in to our shared calendar app) and he also has all our friends/family addresses there (which we only use for Christmas cards). Not sure why he still bothers to maintain it, but he is a creature of habit.

rockinaftermidnite · 01/03/2021 07:12

I had several. I last used a Filofax about ten years ago and haven't missed it. The weight was a nuisance and I was always worried about losing it. Phones are so much more convenient!

Oblomov21 · 01/03/2021 07:49

Why would you? I had a friend who loved them 30 years ago.

But mobile phones today with synchronised calendars and notes all other apps.

surely you just don't need / it is silly to write anything down because now you put it all in her calendar, sync it with your partner, and your business etc, and it's all backed up. so why would you ever need a Filofax again?

Jellycatspyjamas · 01/03/2021 07:53

I have one, it holds my diary, notes and I scribble shopping lists etc in it. I’d be lost without it - an electronic diary or using my phone just doesn’t work for me, I much prefer pen and paper.

I have a raspberry coloured leather one, personal size and it’s perfect for what I need it for.

BusterGonad · 01/03/2021 07:55

I haven't got one but I have a diary with lots of notes space, I've never got into using my phone for such things, in fact I hate using my phone for notes and as a diary. I like to see it written down. My phone is for emails, text, phone, and apps. I remember my sister had a filofax and I was very jealous.

Lweji · 01/03/2021 07:55

I still have a tiny one, A6.
It holds phone numbers and notes, mainly. It used to have a London map, which was quite useful at times.
Now I use it for taking notes when shopping around for big stuff. Notably, last time, car shopping.

leafinthewind · 01/03/2021 07:57

Mine is now just an address book - pulled out only for Christmas and the birthdays of friends of more than 20 years standing. I'm never getting rid of it, though. It has a leather case and I love it. I once accidentally left it in a phone box on Walthamstow market. Some kind soul took it to the police station and they phoned me up to tell me they had it.

FredSoftly · 01/03/2021 08:03

Why would you?

Confused

Is it really such a stretch for you to understand that some people might prefer pen & paper? Or that some people's brains function better using this method - hence the popularity of bullet - journaling?

it is silly

Why?

reluctantbrit · 01/03/2021 08:08

No, I already carry around too much in my bag, these things weigh a ton.

As we need to synch 4 calendars the best is to use our phones/laptops. Adresses are also kept in the contact app which again is shared. We have a document safe online which can be accessed on the go if necessary.

AlwaysLatte · 01/03/2021 08:08

No, since having children we have a shared family calendar in the kitchen that has a column for everyone and I also put appointments in my phone with alarms. Can't be doing with writing everything in two places! I have a notebook in the kitchen and on my desk for other things to just jot down when necessary.

trunumber · 01/03/2021 08:11

Yes and I love it, I do also have outlook diary but I find paper much easier to use

andadietcoke · 01/03/2021 08:14

I have a Kikki K one. I normally WFH so I just treat it like a sectioned notebook but I like all the inserts. I don't use the calendar sections.

notacooldad · 01/03/2021 08:15

Why would you need to carry all that info around with you?
I understand that you may like to have things wrote down, I do as well, but I wouldn't want to have all that info on me all the time.

Ladybigbeach · 01/03/2021 08:20

I use a Kiki k one. I’m dyslexic and need my week to look a certain way for me to understand it. If it’s not in my paper diary it doesn’t get done Blush. I wish I could use an electronic calendar but after many try’s it just doesn’t stay in my brain like a paper one does.
I don’t carry it around only to and from work when I’m not wfh.

peak2021 · 01/03/2021 08:41

Somewhere in a drawer or cupboard but will have not used it this century. My dad used them or the predecessors throughout his working life.

megletsecond · 01/03/2021 08:44

Yes. For contact details, birthdays and the kids log ins for various things.
I don't use the diary part.
I think it's an A5 size.

What a strange post, do you not realise that there's no right way to keep your information?

Not everyone does things in the same way as you, no one has to use a phone. And what an odd assumption that everyone has both a partner and a business or wants to sync things with them even if they do.

I'm not often puzzled by another person's attitude but yours is plain odd and I don't even have a filofax anymore although I have in the past.

EspressoExpresso · 01/03/2021 09:17

I have two, one for work and one personal.

I just cannot get my head around being reliant on electronic diaries (currently trying to log into my work Outlook to check if there's a meeting today and it's not loading 🙄)

My favourite is my turquoise A5 Finsbury one

harknesswitch · 01/03/2021 09:27

I love my Filofax, love lists and live writing things down.

I use mine for personal and work, to do lists, shopping lists, birthdays etc
