How do you listen to music in the car?

My new car isn't going to have a CD player or even a aux/ headphone type socket.
There are some mini usb sockets and that's it. Confused

Mine has a cd player in the glove box but I have never worked it out. I link my phone on Car App (or something) and listen to Spotify. But saying that I like the radio so mainly just put that in.

Wickstead · 28/02/2021 10:36

Radio or connect my phone via Bluetooth

Ohjustboreoff · 28/02/2021 10:37

Same here. I can either plug my iPhone in using the usb or use Bluetooth. I use Amazon and Apple music. But most of the time I listen to the radio.

Jenala · 28/02/2021 10:41

Does it have Bluetooth? We only have aux in the glove box, so we have a Bluetooth splitter plugged into that then use Spotify on our phones and Bluetooth it.

Jenala · 28/02/2021 10:42

If you could plug your phone into the USB inputs to play music, you could get a Bluetooth adaptor and leave that plugged in, then just play via Bluetooth

Nacreous · 28/02/2021 10:46

If you can't use Bluetooth or usb or anything you can (or could years ago) get a radio adapter for your phone so it broadcasts what you're listening to at X frequency and then you tune your car radio into that. Before that I had a tape to aux converter that went into the cassette slot.

(This time I was insistent my car had aux or Bluetooth !)

Nacreous · 28/02/2021 10:47

But also, if it doesn't even have a CD slot, are you sure it doesn't have Bluetooth built in?

LindaEllen · 28/02/2021 10:58

I was shocked when I got my car 5 years ago and it didn't have a CD player. I didn't realise they were that archaic!

But yes, I'll either listen to the radio, or bluetooth it. If your car doesn't have a CD player or aux, it must have bluetooth.

megletsecond · 28/02/2021 11:02

It's a 2011 plate. Radio and occasionally CD.

No Bluetooth and it doesn't seem to connect to phones.

Jellycatspyjamas · 28/02/2021 11:02

My phone links via Bluetooth so I listen to my music that way, or have the radio on.

Thoughtcontagion · 28/02/2021 11:03

Via Bluetooth and listen to Spotify

BertieBotts · 28/02/2021 11:04

Bluetooth now we have a car that does it. Last car we had a USB stick which we put all the car music on. It could read that, you could select the folder.

BertieBotts · 28/02/2021 11:05

So for example we had a folder for relaxing music, a folder for pop music, a folder for certain artists. When we did a long trip we'd all put music into a big road trip folder :o

RedcurrantPuff · 28/02/2021 11:06

@Thoughtcontagion

Via Bluetooth and listen to Spotify
This

Or the radio

eurochick · 28/02/2021 11:07

Spotify via Bluetooth or radio.

idontlikealdi · 28/02/2021 11:07

Radio or Spotify via phone

My car is OLD and it doesn't have a cd player!

bellagogosdead · 28/02/2021 11:25

I never listen to music through my phone, but Dd uses Bluetooth in the car we have now, so I think that would work. I could load some mp3s on an old phone maybe.
Hmm maybe I could get an adapter for the mini usb then I can plug my mp3 player in?
I sound like such a dinosaur, but really it's just music that I like to listen to properly, I can't stand the radio especially if i am driving. Not keen on paying for spotify when they don't have loads of stuff I like and have already paid for.

Nacreous · 28/02/2021 11:28

But if you have CDs you can rip the music and load them onto your phone as mp3s and play them through whatever app suits you best.

I think it's probably fair to say we aren't going to go back round to CDs as a standard portable music option so it's probably a worthwhile job at least for your favourites.

Jellycatspyjamas · 28/02/2021 11:28

In my last car we put music onto a usb and plugged that in - different music in different folders.

doubleleopardy · 28/02/2021 11:28

Apple car play and Spotify. I should really cancel this as I have free Apple Music with my phone contract.

Nacreous · 28/02/2021 11:30

Sorry, just realised you have an MP3 player - couldn't you copy the music from that onto your phone if the car has Bluetooth?

TheSmallAssassin · 28/02/2021 11:31

You can probably get a Bluetooth adapter for your MP3 player. That's probably the easiest thing to do, if you don't want to copy your music onto your current phone.

BertieBotts · 28/02/2021 11:37

Try just plugging your MP3 player in. If that doesn't work, it needs to be a plain old USB stick with the music files loaded onto it. It will probably say in the car's manual what formats it supports.

bellagogosdead · 28/02/2021 11:46

Maybe it'll work with just a memory stick? I will still need an adapter, as it has about 5 mini usbs, but no normal usbs Confused. Will need that anyway to charge stuff.
It's a nice car, but I wouldn't choose it normally, company car with no other options. Talk about a third world problems! Grin

BertieBotts · 28/02/2021 16:01

Oh sorry, totally missed the mini USB part! That does sound tricky. Maybe the car's manual explains what you're supposed to do?
