I bought a packet last time I was in Ikea, just looked at the instructions and it says whipping cream, who has whipping cream in their fridge? well not me.

What can I use instead? Would a bit more milk and a knob of butter be ok do you think?

I have never, ever, heard of cream in gravy.

RubyandPearl · 26/02/2021 06:42

Here for the "wtf you dont put cream in gravy" comments! Its definitely a sauce not a gravy
Cream in gravy is the stuff of nightmares.

PeakyPaula · 26/02/2021 08:56

Loving all the IT'S SAUCE comments, i know it's a sauce but it's brown so it's called gravy here. And it was delish with just milk.

@DiscustinHunAmFummin no lingon berry but left over cranberry sauce from christmas is a pretty good substitute

@Londonnight

I have never, ever, heard of cream in gravy.

Because it's a sauce, not gravy.

Snooks1971 · 28/02/2021 19:15

@Miljea but OP called it gravy. Not sauce. That’s like asking about a car in your OP but you actually mean a van. Grin

Snooks1971 · 28/02/2021 19:18

PS for the first time in weeks I had no idea what to cook… thanks to this thread am now defrosting meatballs (Sains not IKEA), chopping potatoes for thin crispy oven fries and concocting —gravy— sauce from Bisto and Elmlea but with lots of spices, and stock. Thanks OP!

Why do my strikeouts never work Hmm

Yammy1 · 30/01/2022 12:37

I've been caught short without whipped cream before and after doing some internet sleuthing, I came across this great article which tells you how to make your own whipped cream using milk, butter, powdered sugar and vanilla extract (which is optional). Worth giving it a go if you're ever in a bind again!

Snooks you need two hyphens (--) on either side. I think you phone has turned it into an en or em dash (– or —).

I am desperate to try IKEA meatballs I hear so much about them all the time!
I never get to go to IKEA Sad
There isn't one anywhere near me and I don't have a car.
I really want some now!

purplesequins · 30/01/2022 13:02

I also just use half milk/water.

works well with other instant gravy too

RightOnTheEdge · 30/01/2022 13:02

Oh I've just seen you can get the sauce on amazon. I never thought about that because I didn't know you could buy the sauce until this thread! Smile

Wtaf is IKEA gravy and an IKEA meal 😆 xxx

1Week · 30/01/2022 13:07

Would creme fraiche or plain philadelphia do they job. They last ages in the fridge.
My ikea meatball sauce is lovely and easy but not authentic, bisto, spoon of wholegrain mustard, spoon of creme francie.

You can buy swedish meatballs in most supermarkets (in the fridge meat section) and they are exactly the same as the Ikea ones - gluten free too if you need to know that!
Sockpile · 30/01/2022 13:19

Iceland call it creamy gravy!

Waitwhat23 · 30/01/2022 13:23

The IKEA meatball sauce packets? I just use water. Cream makes it far too claggy and the milk makes it too rich for me. I chop up leeks and saute them before adding the sauce packet and the water.

Youngstreet · 30/01/2022 13:43

Didn’t know IKEA sold gravy.
Never tried the meatballs. I make my own from a Delia recipe which all of my family love.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 30/01/2022 13:45

That’s a sauce, not gravy, surely? Who puts cream in gravy?
Mind you a Swedish friend of mine puts cream in just about everything. Rice pudding made entirely with single cream, no milk, anybody?
