@TableFlowerss

😁😁😁 fantastic! Thank Christ for that. I’ll have one very happy DC if it’s true 🤞
Me too! Although I've told him not to get too excited yet Shock

As a mum.of fast growing teenage boys, I need shoe shops and barbers open before schools. My boys already saying they won't go to school until they've had a good haircut!

Thank fuck for that

FoxyTheFox · 21/02/2021 23:52

I want them back. They need to go back. However if it's too soon we will end up backnin fucking lockdown again

I feel the same. It needs to be staggered though so that the brakes can be put on if/when needed and so infection rates can be controlled rather than just opening the floodgates and letting all the kids back at the same time. I can't find the figures now, will keep looking for them, but in covid-positive households with school age children, in something like 75% of cases its been the school-aged child who was the initial infection point. Cases rose exponentially in September when schoosl/colleges/universities returned all at the same time and its seeming that the government learned nothing from it.

Same. I’m scared incase they do decide a phased return 🙄 There’ll be high fives and whoops and cheers form my DC if they announce it tomorrow.

WeavingWandering · 21/02/2021 23:55

The next lockdown will be a treat...

Surely it’s more disruptive for children to be continually in and out of school and in and out of lockdown than to have a phased return (or even a rota system) which will take longer but hopefully be more sustainable- which would give them some stability and routine ? Putting them in just to drag them out when cases inevitably surge just seems cruel ...

Four DC, all have grown since December, all need shoes, haircuts, and new uniform items. Their schools have all sent newsletters out in the last week saying "to answer recent queries, full uniform will be expected when we return" alongside a reminder of their acceptable hair policy too. From where!?

Where do they expect you to get their haircut ?! I can do a basic "style" but not sure it's acceptable! ConfusedGrin

I'm not sure why you're all confused as to how your children's hair will be cut? Mr Bean nailed it 30 years ago

@HazeyJaneII you should absolutely be able to keep your dd home.
Shielding is still advised for the ECV. Yes the adults have mostly been vaccinated (including me) but there's no logic in forcing families of unvaccinated ECV people back into school.

I agree. I'm very confused by the NI plan - they are bringing in the youngest years for two weeks, then sending them back home and brining in the oldest years. I don't understand, surely year 1 pupils and year 13 pupils aren't in the same school so not sure why the youngest need to go home again to allow the oldest back? Very disruptive for the younger ones, I'd rather they didn't bother.
catsarecute · 22/02/2021 00:20

It's too soon. Can't believe they're doing this after all the hard work and sacrifice of this lockdown and they're just going to blow it again. I feel sick.

PumpkinsandAutumnLeaves · 22/02/2021 00:25

Won't it just undo all the work they did by closing them in the first place? I'm lost as to why its a good idea.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 22/02/2021 00:27

Here we go again. Open wait for NHS to get overwhelmed again to close again. Oh and sadly 0.2 million to go before their time.

Lessons should be learnt but when safe and sustainable so not short sighted cyclical. Schools will only be fully open until cases detected anyway.

Common nonsense, unbalance, short sighted, as you were risk and repeat let mutations beat the vaccines. Following no science.

BogRollBOGOF · 22/02/2021 00:37

Excellent news.

We are clearly past the winter peak, and March is when respiritory illness rates naturally tumble anyway.
Even without a third of adults already vaccinated and naturally aquired immunity, globally the past year has shown that spring naturally stops the virus establishing/ spreading rapidly through the community.

(I would agree with a temporary amnesty on attendence for families with a specific clinical needs, with education being the responsibility of the parents in that phase)

BringBackDoves · 22/02/2021 00:39

I hope this is true. Haven’t been able to get a place for my vulnerable DS as school is full and the mental health consequences have been awful for my family. Can’t happen soon enough tbh.

But I think it should be parental choice and so consequences for keeping them off longer if people so wish.

ineedaholidaynow · 22/02/2021 00:42

Wonder if there will be any mitigation like masks in classrooms for all secondary school pupils and possibly KS2 in Primary

shrunkenhead · 22/02/2021 01:01

Thank god for that. I'd happily forfeit my vaccine (although I'm waaaaaaay down the list as under 50) if it meant getting the teachers vaccinated first. We need the kids back in schools!
I don't understand the hesitancy on here. Maybe you like your children or have the time and patience, that I evidently don't, to expand on their online lessons with them so they're actually getting something like a proper six hours of quality education each day. Of course I love my dd dearly and I jest, but enough is enough now.

bonfireheart · 22/02/2021 01:05

Last time schools reopened, DD and her class got sent back home three times.

minchinfin · 22/02/2021 01:07

Great news. Now get all adults vaccinated so all remaining teachers are done.

EmpressSuiko · 22/02/2021 02:43

I hope it’s phased or we at least get a choice in the matter, my DH has cancer but isn’t a priority for the vaccine or shielding yet as he hasn’t started his treatment and I have asthma, I really don’t want it brought into our home!

picknmix1984 · 22/02/2021 02:50

Why not wait until all top priority groups are vaccinated? It's odd!

scoutingfornarwhals · 22/02/2021 03:04

Give it a day and they will close again.
