Looking promising 😀

Government just doesn't seem to learn from past mistakes. It concerns me that there may not be a phased return and all kids will be expected back at the same time. I would rather a phased, safer return than the risk of schools closing again or classes having to isolate again and again.

If he's sending every child in the country back on the same day in one big explosion, then he should at least give individual parents the freedom of choice if they feel safer (in their own personal circumstances) to continue home learning a little longer.
I suspect that won't be the case though. It will be "all children MUST return on 8th March or risk fines etc etc".
What makes one family whoop for joy, will make another cry in vain.

A walk I agree...

Give us the f ing choice.

One big bang explosion.. It's so pointless isn't it.
If things escalate again and they just leave schools to founder yet again I'll just have to pull dc out and risk court.

SpringisSpinning · 21/02/2021 23:01

They could have started with essential years, got them used to testing, gradually started easing other years back and each week they wait, each day hundreds of thousands more are vaccinated...

Which forms a protective ring around the children, any staff not done.. The community...

HazeyJaneII · 21/02/2021 23:04

They've just said it as definite on the news.

Fucking hell.
I can keep ds off, his GP will write a letter, and he is shielding....but his sister's will have to go back, for 3 fucking weeks, risking bringing it home to him and struggling with the worry that brings. Honestly this bit when Bozo leaks his shitey ill thought out plans, and I desperately scramble to work out the best way to keep ds safe and the rest of us sane is a shitting nightmare....every time. I hate it.

kingat · 21/02/2021 23:07

If true, that is good news and right decision

Suzi7979 · 21/02/2021 23:08

Stupidity. The government haven't learned anything at all. Doing the same mistakes again and again.

middleager · 21/02/2021 23:10

Foolish and dangerous.

ssd · 21/02/2021 23:11

@HazeyJaneII. I feel for you.

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 21/02/2021 23:13

After school clubs..? Does that mean wrap around care, or actual chess clubs etc - would be very surprised if any voluntary clubs went ahead!

HoneysuckIejasmine · 21/02/2021 23:14

Ridiculous foolishness. I want kids back but that's insane. Small steps, check it's safe, next small step.

HazeyJaneII · 21/02/2021 23:21

Thankyou @ssd
Should go to sleep, but too busy raging!

indemMUND · 21/02/2021 23:22

A choice would be nice. Must be great to be a parent with kids who can pop back in without risk. How about no fines imposed keeping them off for parents who've been missed off the vaccine list unwilling to throw themselves back into the midst of new variants bullshit?

FoxyTheFox · 21/02/2021 23:25

All in, all at the same time because that worked SO well back in September...

If it is going to be all in then I think my DC will be "showing symptoms" and "self-isolating" for the first two weeks. School provides work for children who are isolating and it gives us two weeks for the initial fuck-ups of the "all in" policy to settle down.

Gobbeldegook · 21/02/2021 23:26

Terrible idea

Cocopogo · 21/02/2021 23:27

It’s about time. I truly hope this is true, I can’t bear the thought of all those poor vulnerable kids stuck at home.

Babyroobs · 21/02/2021 23:30

Seeing as many parents of secondary age schoolkids will be in their late 40's and early 50's I think they should wait until the majority of those parents are vaccinated, it sounds like it would only be a few more weeks maybe by mid April. i really want to be vaccinated before my dd goes back.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 21/02/2021 23:32

Why couldn’t they vaccinate all teachers first then stage a return? There was no need for it to be like this. It’s too early. Just a few more weeks would make a difference.

zoemum2006 · 21/02/2021 23:35

Absolutely stupid. Get people fully vaccinated first. Or put some extra safety measures in place or offer people a choice to continue to home ed.

Anything than simply just repeating the mistakes of last time.

SpringisSpinning · 21/02/2021 23:37

Utter Maddness.
I'd really like to know what Chris whitty suggests to be honest I think he's the only one left I trust.

gigity · 21/02/2021 23:38

Why couldn’t they vaccinate all teachers first then stage a return?
I'm not sure that makes sense, schools opening impacts families of the kids who go & plenty of parents will be in their 40s/50s.

TableFlowerss · 21/02/2021 23:38

😁😁😁 fantastic! Thank Christ for that. I’ll have one very happy DC if it’s true 🤞

gigity · 21/02/2021 23:39

so perhaps vaccinate those age groups first

sonnysunshine · 21/02/2021 23:41

I want them back. They need to go back. However if it's too soon we will end up backnin fucking lockdown again.
