What would you think of me?

Im 17st, unhealthy, unfit and I need to get my bum in gear.

I've decided to sort my diet and lack of exercise out, and plan to start running. I would prefer to do it at night when it's dark, however the only time I have is in the day time.

Im really anxious about people seeing me run and very embarrassed.

So, what if anything, would you think about a larger lady running? Am I going to make a fool of myself? Any handhold or words of encouragement would be fantastic.

Thanks

Wouldn't even notice tbh, but think you should start with faster paced walking and then maybe C25K

I went for another walk this afternoon, and had 2 little jogs, only about 30seconds each but im so pleased with myself as I jogged past 3 people in total, one of which gave me a huge smile.

I've eaten well today too, I feel a lot better for actually doing something to better my health.

When my daughter was a teen she would always cheer and say well done! (from inside the car) when she saw someone clearly unfit jogging. She was impressed by their efforts.

Fab update!! C25K starts with 30 second bursts so maybe try week 1,you don't need to move up to the next week until your ready.

Crazycrazylady · 22/02/2021 17:02

I always look at runners ( any size or shape) and just feel guilty that I'm not trying myself 🤷🏻

muddyford · 22/02/2021 18:06

Absolutely good for you. People either don't notice or are filled with admiration. Just get a decent sports bra - mine is a Shock Absorber 40D - even for regular brisk walking.

kateybeth79 · 22/02/2021 18:08

I would have respect for you!

Heartbrokenstill · 22/02/2021 18:33

Well done OP ...apart from the exercise, the fresh air will make you feel good Smile

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 22/02/2021 23:44

I'd be judging your running shoes and gait. Because shit shoes will hurt you and I'm a bugger for spotting biomechanical issues in others.

And probably wishing I knew which brand your kit was, as I hate searching for plus sized gear only to find that its a) horrible colours and patterns or b) not in stock anyway.

HighlandCowbag · 23/02/2021 07:55

That's a brilliant update OP, wel done! You also inspired me to drag my arse out as well and I overcome my fear of running down the main road (I usually go on the trails behind my house). It wasn't fast, or long, or pretty but I lapped everyone sat on the sofa including my lazyarse self so happy with that!

FredAstairesChair · 23/02/2021 07:58

I'd think either nothing at all, or if I wasn't focused inside my own head (as always!) And did form a thought process about you, I'd think "good for her for making a change to get fit!"
One thing I DON'T like seeing though,is women running looking uncomfortable in their running gear
Buy things that fit properly, that you feel nice enough in. Preferably something you could feel comfy enough in to sit and watch TV. Running is hard, and any seemingly tiny things that make it harder make it a LOT harder. No scratchy tops that ride up or leggings that ride down. No tops that aren't capable of being tied around you comfortably without falling off every 5 minutes. No too-loose sports bras
No constantly-coming-undone trainer laces.

I've been for an hours walk this morning. I'm so pleased with myself

I'd give you a mental high-five AND a fist-bump. Then feel bad cos my arse is not as motivated as yours, wishing that I was running with you. I'd even be tempted to pull over and ask if you wanna be run buddies!
