We are having Chinese tonight and I am stuck in a rut. What do you like?

Tofu in black bean sauce and salt and pepper aubergine.

Merename · 21/02/2021 18:39

Wow these all sound delicious, our Chinese don’t do anything interesting like tofu. Rarely get Chinese these days due to that but if we do, get satay mixed veg and veg chow mein.

ExcusesAndAccusations · 21/02/2021 18:40

Not veggie but I don’t like to eat meat in cheap takeaways so I tend to eat aubergine in sea-spice/black bean sauce, or Thai curry with fried tofu (I don’t like the flabby white stuff only the fried stuff), or Chinese vegetable curry with chips.

InescapableDeath · 21/02/2021 18:40

Crispy bean curd or tofu dishes are really nice if your Chinese does them. Mmm salt and pepper tofu!

HovercraftFullOfEels · 21/02/2021 18:42

Deep fried tofu balls, vegetable dumplings, satay tofu or mushroom curry from our local takeaway.

IpanemaNova · 21/02/2021 18:43

Salt and pepper aubergine
Bean curd in spicy chilli sauce
Satay bean curd
Veggies in black bean sauce

millenialblush · 21/02/2021 18:45

Salt and chilli/salt and pepper tofu!! Yhe bomb

Neolara · 21/02/2021 18:46

I don't. I've never had a great experience with veggie food at Chinese restaurant in the UK. In contrast, the best veggie food I've had anywhere in the world (and I've visited lots of places) was while travelling around China.

Londonmummy66 · 21/02/2021 18:47

Ours do a lovely broccoli in a garlic and chilli sauce and pak choi in oyster sauce - both delicious with egg fried rice - although as I am not actually veggie I do have a side of crispy squid.....

Itsamess8456 · 21/02/2021 18:49

Veg Singapore noodles. I love them. If I'm feeling greedy - I'll also have fried tofu and seaweed. Haven't had a Chinese for about a year though!

ShowOfHands · 21/02/2021 18:49

Based upon some of your suggestions, I'm going with szechuan beancurd with green pepper and onion, salt and pepper aubergine and some crispy seaweed.

DH has ordered veggie spring rolls and a tofu dish with peppercorn salt and chilli so I'll probably try his too.

Our Chinese restaurant is great. They do off menu stuff too. If you tell them which spices and flavours you like, they'll whip up something different. I used to do it when I ate meat but haven't experimented with veggie options yet.

Just got to go and collect it now.

Not veggie but particularly like veggie takeaway meals, always have egg fried rice with either veg curry, veg & cashew nuts, or vegetable sung (lots of chopped up small veg in a tasty sauce but not very wet, crispy white fried noodles almost like prawn cracker strings, all plopped into lettuce leaves and eaten like a wrap).

Batshitkerazy · 21/02/2021 19:02

Vegetable curry or chow mein, and spring rolls

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 21/02/2021 19:08

Spring rolls
Tofu something
Aubergine something

PhantomErik · 21/02/2021 19:09

Salt & pepper beancurd (Tofu) with white rice.

OR

Vegetable curry with rice & chips

Graphista · 21/02/2021 19:09

I've not ordered takeaway for ages mainly due to covid delivery issues.

But I love Chinese food.

My favourite dishes:

Savoury veg rice
Spring rolls
Dim sum
Salt and pepper chips
My local does a load of tofu dishes - which I love you really should try it op, my favourites are black bean or sweet n sour sauce they also do a satay
I always order an extra side of Chinese veg that they do too which is just plain stir fried - kale, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, beansprouts, baby corn... yummy!

Must admit also partial to pineapple fritters in syrup too

Not a fan of chow mein though

PrincessTuna · 21/02/2021 19:11

Fried rice and chips! Which is why it's my last choice of takeaways.

MadKittenWoman · 21/02/2021 19:28

Anything with tofu /bean curd. Check what's in the sauces, though.

supernova21 · 21/02/2021 19:30

Vegan here and I love a Chinese as always a ton of options including salt and chilli chips, salt and pepper bean curd, rice noodles, mushroom or veg curry (check no milk in sauce if vegan), mixed veg or bean curd in black bean or Szechuan sauce, ect

supernova21 · 21/02/2021 19:31

Ooo, I forgot salt and chilli aubergine ☺️

RedHeadedChickadee · 21/02/2021 19:32

IpanemaNova · 24/02/2021 10:57

We haven’t had a takeaway for ages but after reading this thread (twice😋) I’ll be ordering this weekend.

InescapableDeath · 24/02/2021 12:01
