I've got a cold. I work full time and absolutely cannot afford to take time off.

I'm due my covid jab tomorrow which i do want but am extremely stressed about side effects. I keep hearing how ill everyone feels and honestly, I'm freaking out.

Not sure what I want from this thread...

Had my first one a few weeks ago
Slight headache for a couple of days
Sore arm
Fine within three days
Kept working and exercising

Mysillystory · 19/02/2021 18:21

I've had mine today, I've got a sore arm and a cracking headache, but am able to carry on as normal (single mum, 2 kids, not got a lot of choice) I was worried too, so I bought over the counter cold and few stuff, paracetamol etc, and the kids a new toy each so they would be amused for a little while. I also bought some treats

MolyHolyGuacamole · 19/02/2021 18:27

Had mine nearly a week ago, sore at the site (are people saying sore arm really meaning the entire arm?) and that was it. Perfectly fine otherwise.

Anecdotally the only people getting really bad reactions are ones who have already had Covid, if you haven't your reaction will likely be very mild.

RinkyD · 19/02/2021 18:29

I would not vaccinate with a cold, it could be mild covid. I would test and then rebook.

bloodywhitecat · 19/02/2021 18:31

This ^. Unless you have tested and know it is not COVID it would be irresponsible to attend the appointment tomorrow.
Ginfordinner · 19/02/2021 18:31

I'm not sure you can have a vaccination with a cold. Is there any way you can check this?

BrokenCircle · 19/02/2021 18:35

I don’t think you should go for the appointment with a cold.

Everyotherday · 19/02/2021 18:44

I had mine last week, the only side effect I had was a sore arm for 2 days. I’ve not heard of anyone having anything other than some mild side effects, I’m sure some people have but most likely you will only experience mild ones

Takingontheflab · 19/02/2021 19:14

Covid NEGATIVE confirmed this morning. I'd have never gone without being sure

Gp says if no temperature affected illness I should still get jabbed 🤷‍♀️ honestly I'm just worried about feeling really poorly and not being able to rest because work & kids.

But if you developed coronavirus you would feel even more poorly, and be ill for much longer than a day. It's a no brainer really. Isn't it?
Takingontheflab · 19/02/2021 23:32

I've had covid and I really don't want it again, I'll definitely have the jab... i guess I was secretly hoping lots of people would come to say they'd had it and experienced no side effects!

Ginfordinner · 19/02/2021 23:50

DH had his yesterday and has had no side effects.

dontgobaconmyheart · 20/02/2021 06:54

I know you're after reassurance OP and that is normal. I'm rubbish with vaccinations and always end up terribly unwell, but will be absolutely snapping it up when offered despite that.

Whether anyone did or didn't have a bad response anecdotally on this thread makes no difference to whether you will or wont. It will either happen or not. It isn't statistically very likely to cause you any serious problem but it will be bearable, and it will pass, and it is beyond worth it long term. You'll get through it and may be pleasantly surprised!

JemimaMuddledUp · 20/02/2021 07:00

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I had the AZ vaccine last Saturday and have had horrible side effects, however I'm definitely in the minority. My mum and inlaws both had it and had hardly any side effects - a slightly sore arm and a mild headache that went with paracetamol. I suspect that it may have either been my slightly dodgy immune system or one of the medications I am on which has caused me to have side effects. But you have no way of knowing until you have it, so there isn't much point worrying too much.

Crayfishforyou · 20/02/2021 07:09

Apart from a really sore arm I felt as if I had a watered down version of covid for a couple of days.
It was nowhere near as bad as covid though.

Footle · 20/02/2021 07:12

My arm didn't hurt. I felt a bit shivery for half a day, the day after.

Ynwa12345 · 20/02/2021 07:12

Go get it honestly I had Pfizer and just had a sore arm at site for a few days. That's it.

WeAllHaveWings · 20/02/2021 07:42

DSIL and DN have both had theirs and both had a temperature, felt fluey the next morning but it had cleared by the following morning. Both also said their arm was very tender.

DSIL, managed to get through a day at work, but admitted she shouldn't have driven home after.

Amdone123 · 20/02/2021 07:59

Had mine yesterday. Was fine, went to work. Started feeling achey last night. Arm sore, but that's to be expected. Feel achey today, not flu like, more like post 3 hours exercise- stiff.
I bought paracetamol, hot chocolate, chocolate and fancy bubble bath.

whiteroseredrose · 20/02/2021 08:43

I had mine on Thursday. Awful headache yesterday that floored me (I hardly ever get headaches) and a mild one today. Just waiting for paracetamol to kick in then I'm away.

Milomonster · 20/02/2021 08:51

Had my first Pfizer jab at 3.45 yesterday and was expecting side effects. Nothing so far. The jan site is slightly tender but no achey, heavy, throbby arm and same with my parents (we have not had Covid) My sis and bro had awful side effects with Oxford but they both had Covid previously.

Takingontheflab · 20/02/2021 16:25

I had it around 5 hours ago. I think i feel okay, mild headache but no sore arm yet. Just very tired. I had the oxford.

Thank you to everyone who replied. I was so anxious.

@Takingontheflab glad to hear you got on well. I had mine this morning while having an exacerbation of my asthma. Went great. Student nurse gave it to me. No side effects and no sore arm. I had the Oxford one.

My dad had Pfizer and was very sore and had flu like symptoms for a few days. Just our experiences.
