Have you listened to the Westwingweekly podcast.
You'll love it.

DameMargaretofChalfont · 19/02/2021 14:41

I totally agree.

It's especially sad when you realise that the actor who played Leo McGarry actually died during the filming of the final series. As a tribute his name and pictures were kept in the opening credits. When his death was filmed on screen the tears and laments from the cast were real.

I loved the Josh/Donna storyline. In fact the entire cast were amazing with their rapid fire lines and fast impeccable timings.

I need something like The West Wing back in my life.

Yes. I love that podcast, it's brilliant. What's next? Wink

It was such an amazing television show. I loved that the characters were so idealistic, so driven to do good, but also so flawed, it gave it some realism. Bartlet's appearance at the end of episode 1 was fantastic. And then 'Two Cathedrals', absolutely brilliant. 'Brothers In Arms' still gives me goosebumps.

OhioOhioOhio · 19/02/2021 14:54

I watched it ten years ago. Is it too soon to watch it again? Where can I see it? The idea of a podcast seems weird though.

InsideOfEmptiness · 19/02/2021 15:06

It's on All4 and RTÉ Player. The podcast is brilliant, it's Joshua Malina (who played Will Bailey) rewatching episodes with a very smart, witty guy who was a big fan of the show (Hrishi Hirway). They discuss the episodes and they often had cast members on as guests. Really interesting

InsideOfEmptiness · 19/02/2021 15:07

And it's never too soon to watch it again Grin

Kerberos · 19/02/2021 15:08

I've just finished a rewatch of all 7 seasons and am pondering starting again, so 10 years definitely is too long without a WW fix.

Season 7 is probably my favourite for many reasons.

OhioOhioOhio · 19/02/2021 15:09

Where is it streaming from?

Kerberos · 19/02/2021 15:15

All4. You have to watch ads but it's worth it

I will never buy a car from Arnold Clark though. I'm thoroughly fed up of those ads.

weegiemum · 19/02/2021 15:19

We're watching it through again too at the minute on All4. I thought I remembered how good it was but I'd forgotten the sheer brilliance of both the writing and acting. I really want to be CJ!

MoiraRoseVibes · 19/02/2021 15:25

We are watching it from the beginning again too... it’s so brilliant. Am surprised how much it stands up to the test of time.
I think there are a few cringey bits with regards to women that wouldn’t be written in the same way now, but that’s it so far.
It’s the best lockdown telly choice, so comforting and inspiring at the same time.
Jed Bartlet 4 Eva

Cupcakegirl13 · 19/02/2021 15:26

LOVE this show have watched through twice already , but a third is sounding appealing .

thefemaleJoshLyman · 19/02/2021 15:30

@Kerberos I completely agree about Arnold Clarke. I have just found the podcast on Spotify. I also have a secret crush on Joshua Malina!

MoiraRoseVibes · 19/02/2021 15:31

@Kerberos I totally agree wrt Arnold Clark, so annoying! And the girls in that ad have a hot takeaway coffee when they’re supposedly by a remote lake, which I find v annoying

OhioOhioOhio · 19/02/2021 15:45

It says its on amazon prime but I can't see if its free or not. Will check later and report back.

Goatsdorhone · 19/02/2021 15:48

Hands down my favourite show ever, can watch it again and again! Am hoping the recent live episode they did on stage will be available to watch in the UK at some point!

Figmentofimagination · 19/02/2021 15:55

Currently rewatching, I'm at the beginning of S6 when CJ has been appointment chief of staff. Found S5 to be a bit annoying, couldn't say why apart from it all seemed a bit messy. But S6 seems to be picking back up.
And yes to the Arnold Clarke ads. And the Dominos JOMO adverts. Those adverts are just to garish and annoying.

JollyGreenGiantess · 19/02/2021 16:07

It is my favourite tv show of all time. I’ve never watched anything I loved as much as the WW. Loved the podcast also.

LookItsMeAgain · 19/02/2021 16:13

I'm up to the end of Season 5 on the WWW podcast. I am a latecomer to that aspect but The West Wing is my go to happy place (particularly when the orange cheese puff was in the White House over the past few years).

MargaretHooper · 19/02/2021 16:16

Every time I watch it through, I pick a different character to concentrate on, and I always "get" things I missed on previous viewings - you could watch it forever!

MellieNelba · 19/02/2021 16:34

I watched it from the start again at the beginning of lockdown 1 - living on my own - some days that’s all I did - I just love it and spent too much time thinking I don’t want it to end. Best programme ever.

NineteenForever · 19/02/2021 16:44

Weve watched it lots of times all the way through its awesome. DD17 in on her second viewing. Can't believe we didn't see it until about 5 years ago. 'In the shadow of 2 gunmen', and 'Noel' episodes are favourites , but there hasn't been anything to match it since.

OliviaBean · 19/02/2021 16:49

Nothing touches the West Wing, it touches something in me and I am not a huge tv fan at all. Absolutely brilliant, nothing compares to it.

This first video gets me every time, the 2nd one is worth a watch:

InsideOfEmptiness · 19/02/2021 18:08

OliviaBean, that scene with Mrs. Landingham is fantastic. And then at the press conference, when he puts his hands in his pockets and looks to the left, as she'd noticed he did when he makes up his mind, decades before. Very emotional.

Another brilliant episode is the Thanksgiving one where Bartlet has Charlie bringing him all these different carving knives so he can pick out a new one, and it turns out the reason he wants a new one is because he's passing his family carving knife, made by Paul Revere on to Charlie.

Oh and Oliver Babish smashing his malfunctioning tape recorder with his big gavel Grin
