Am trying to get back to sleep, maybe should not have slept a bit yesterday. I just took Hibiscus Organic Tea. It's good for lowering blood pressure and activates melatonin to sleep.... so if I dont post again.... then it worked

Thack, we have 12 DGC, but only 2 born from our DD, unfortunately 2 of our DS split from long term relationships and the children were weaponised, so we don’t see 6 of them. Our latest was born last month and we have had a crafty cuddle.

I think it is much easier if the children are born of your DD as you stand a much less risk of losing them. We have FaceTime with those 2 really often, until this pandemic hit I was childcare, but because I was classed as vulnerable, my DD decided to put the little one in nursery.

I saw another 2 just after Christmas, just to wave to, because silly old Santa left some presents here.

It has been really tough and I can’t wait to hug them all again. I like to think we are very good grandparents.

I'm now in my son's bed. I keep looking at the clock as he gets up just after five. I can usually doze while he plays on his tablet first thing but my anxious brain keeps telling me I won't be getting any sleep at all Sad

Fingers crossed @lydia2021

I’m going to try and doze until DS wakes up for a feed, probably in the next 30 mins. Got about 7oz from the Haakaa on one side, I feel bad that I’m basically throwing this milk away at the moment but he doesn’t need the expressed bottle & our freezer is full.

I have a silk duvet. It stays cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It was about £200 but washes in the washing machine at 30 degrees celsius.

I have blackout curtains. I make sure my bedroom is tidy and decluttered. I write a list before bed of everything I need to remember and plan out the next few days.

I have a lavender spray but it doesn't help much. I tried sleep teas but they did nothing.

I was low on iron. My sleep hugely improved after being on high strength iron pills for a few weeks.

When I really cant sleep then I will get up and do something productive. I can't stand lying in bed not sleeping for hours.

Well I have found a book to read on my kindle, so I am going to arrange my pillows so I get the cold side and lie down. If I don’t manage to doze off I’ll be back

PocoyoandEllie · 19/02/2021 03:49

Up with 8 week old DS.

I find imagining something like being on a boat or sort of telling myself a story in my head helps me drift off. I agree, knowing you are on “countdown” to wakeup really puts the pressure on for sleeping

Has anyone found any successful over the counter sleeping remedies?

Well, it's time for me to go to bed now.

Hope you all manage to get some sleep.

yellowmonkey · 19/02/2021 04:01

Nytol works for me most of the time? The antihistamine drowsy one you get from the pharmacist

Imagineit · 19/02/2021 04:03

Jealous of those with young babies, even though when they are tiny they are all consuming and it's absolutely knackering. I adore kids, don't think I'll be able to have another though. I am thankful for my little boy though he's my world

@Imagineit any advice for a FTM and sleeping? Everyone keeps telling me to sleep now while I can. Nice advice but it's not like it will help me in 6 weeks!
Is your little one in nursery at all? Must be difficult at the moment

Colouringaddict · 19/02/2021 14:42

Thack, my top tip, is to nap when the baby does, especially in the first few weeks, when you are recovering from the birth etc

I always bathed my babies after our evening meal, they tended to sleep longer and it’s the start of a routine.

I kept the room dimly lit at night rather than all the lights on too. I wasn’t able to breast feed my youngest so one of us would go to bed early, the other one would stay up and try and feed about midnight, whoever did the late shift got up and the night feeder got a lie in. I wasn’t an insomniac then. I loved the night feeds when I had other children too, it was a quiet time, when the rest of the house was sleeping.

In my experience the first couple of weeks were quite easy, but at 2 weeks, it’s like they know they’ve arrived on the planet and make their presence known. Good luck!
