Anyone up?

I am in our bedroom and he sleeps in the spare room. Insomnia is common for me, despite taking enough medication to knock out a very large horse.

He is on annual leave so we were in bed watching a film until late.

Our children have all left home now, so it is just us and the dog, who I can hear downstairs snoring as loud as DH will be very soon

DramaAlpaca · 19/02/2021 03:08

Aww, @MaverickDanger congratulations on your baby. I've never forgotten those early days and my youngest 'baby' is 23 now Grin

Imagineit · 19/02/2021 03:09

@Thack

Hi all. I've been awake during the night for the last few days. I think it's mostly work stress. I start maternity leave in 3 weeks (2wks before due date) and have an audit the day before I finish. It's going to be a bad one.

Where is everyone messaging from? DH is asleep so I've stayed in bed and tucked my phone under the duvet... (yes I know it's wrong)

From Birmingham here. Another one hiding under the duvet

@DramaAlpaca

I'm messaging from the sofa in front of the TV.
What's on?

@Colouringaddict we have the same sleeping arrangements, for the same reasons. It's been a marriage saver, it really has. I snore too, probably worse than he does Blush

DramaAlpaca · 19/02/2021 03:10

What's on? Transplant, a Canadian medical thing about a Syrian refugee doctor. I'm enjoying it.

DramaAlpaca · 19/02/2021 03:12

Oh, and I'm messaging from Ireland. My sofa in Ireland. I'm English though, DH dragged me home Grin

Same sleeping arrangements too. I share with my little one (3) I've just got his cup of milk that he'll ask for when he wakes. Hoping I can get at least a few hours

Honestly he used to think it was funny, I even recorded him and belly laughed. I was getting little to no sleep, so I started sleeping on the sofa, when he got up in the morning, I would go back to bed, a couple of days of that and he cleared the spare room and sleeps in there.

We have tried him staying in here after sex, but I am menopausal, and it was just too hot 😂

I'm up, sleep is so bad at the moment Sad. I'm usually a good 8 hours a night girl so this is killing me. Feel a bit anxious and can't seem to switch off! Nothing really bothering me which is annoying as otherwise I'd try and sort it..

Anxiety is the worst isn't it? I have no reason to feel anxious just messed up on medication. Going to call the doc for sleeping tablets tomorrow but they were really reluctant when I last asked. I just need a week to reset after all this hortible mess up with my migraine meds

You might just be anxious about not sleeping. I have learned that if I am really not tired to get up and maybe get my pencils out for a while. I am currently trying to colour a beautiful book for each 5 of my smaller grandchildren.

MaverickDanger · 19/02/2021 03:18

Thanks @DramaAlpaca loving the little newborn bubble, even more so with COVID as we have the best excuse not to go out & do anything.

I’m in bed, sandwiched between snoring DH and snoring DS. He’s at the point of having 4-6 hour stretches fairly consistently at night so we’re really lucky with him, just my bloody leaky boobs waking me up.

Transplant’s meant to be great, we have it saved on the Sky box after we finish Snowpiercer on Netflix & Devils on Sky.

DramaAlpaca · 19/02/2021 03:18

@Colouringaddict Haha, yes postmenopausal now. When I was in the middle of it I'd want just a sheet and he'd want a thick duvet. It wasn't working. So it's separate rooms, with visiting rights of course Wink

Somuddled · 19/02/2021 03:19

Isn't sleep just the strangest thing. We need so much of it but it doesn't take much for us to not be able to achieve it. I always wonder how people managed to get any sleep thousands of year ago. No soft beds, no heating, fleas urgh. Was everyone just sleep deprived?

Thack · 19/02/2021 03:20

I might get up for some milk with everyone mentioning it. I have strawberry nesquick, that might have to happen...

I've never had a cat, I bet it's so awful to hear them climbing around. How long until you can let them out? Love dogs snoring, mine doesn't do it much so it makes me chuckle Smile

Paperyfish · 19/02/2021 03:20

I’m awake. 35 weeks pregnant. Baby having some kind of womb disco and having to get up to pee every 2 hrs. Also my ears hurt from trying to sleep on my side. I’m naturally a back sleeper.

Imagineit · 19/02/2021 03:21

Anyone have any techniques for getting to sleep? I'm so tired just can't switch off. I had a brandy and that chilled me out but then it wore off and I'm still here awake!

DramaAlpaca · 19/02/2021 03:21

I've a softly snoring spaniel snuggled up next to me. I've never understood why Ddog's snoring isn't annoying but DH's is.

Milkshake7489 · 19/02/2021 03:23

I'm up cuddling a very snuggly baby!

Anxiety and sleeplessness can be a nightmare OP, I really feel for you Flowers. As a last resort I sometimes go downstairs and stick something easy on the TV. Taking away the pressure of trying to sleep often helps me nod off Smile.

Good thinking! A work friend got me a sweary pregnancy colouring book. That sounds like a lovely project. Are you near to the DG to see them [when you can]?
DramaAlpaca · 19/02/2021 03:23

@Imagineit try concentrating on relaxing every bit of your body, starting with your toes and working upwards. I'm usually asleep by the time I get to my elbows.

Try breathing in through your nose for a count of 4, and out through the mouth for a count of 8, mentally going through your body from your toes up and relaxing that body part. Used to work for me. My Nan swore by winning the imaginary lotto and furnishing every room in her dream house. She swore she never got it all done

I'm 35 weeks too! Can't wait to be able to turn over without pre planning the five point manoeuvre.
yellowmonkey · 19/02/2021 03:28

Awake here - laid in bed with a very lively baby having her own party in her cot next to me. She's just learned to crawl and is presumably keen to practice, I tried cuddling her and she got furious so I just have to ride it out. Similar to you I know she's usually up for the day at 5:30 so counting the hours is such a trap, I always do it and it stops me relaxing!
