£50 to make life easier...

So, if you had £50 a week to make life a bit easier for yourself what would you outsource? Live on my own with a bugger of a commute and a hatred of anything domestic.

  • taxi to train station instead of walking 25 mins in morning £5 a day.
  • food delivery company such as gusto - £30-£40 a week
  • take away food (not rubbish, nice restaurants that deliver) £10 a meal
  • cleaner £10ph
  • Laundry Service, bed lined washed and ironed plus a few work dresses/tops £15pw

What combination would you go for? Open to any other ideas as well!!

Cleaner definitely. I'd love a cleaner. We can afford a cleaner. DP doesn't want a stranger cleaning his house ☹️

Laundry. Especially ironing. Especially bedding.

Oversize · 18/02/2021 15:07

Cleaner but they're at least £15 per hour here. 3 hours a week for a cleaner then. I would love it.

Findahouse21 · 18/02/2021 15:08

3 hours of cleaning plus laundry service

coldemortreturns · 18/02/2021 15:09

I have a friend who runs her own cleaning company and she's quoted £10ph :)

All of it on a cleaner. It would almost get me 4hrs a week here which would be enough to have a clean done, beds changed, a load of laundry chucked in... fab.

ConsuelaHammock · 18/02/2021 15:15

A cleaner and a taxi on really wet, windy days.

Camomila · 18/02/2021 15:16

£30 for 2h a week cleaner
£20 for a couple of posh ready meals/nice fruit etc.

freezingcoldsnow · 18/02/2021 15:16

Doing something nice - like a weekly meal out or trip (pre covid obvs) - we have a cleaner and prioritise that money as it is a godsend for our home set up but there is little left for fun stuff!

Floralnomad · 18/02/2021 15:16

I highly recommend out sourcing the ironing , I haven’t ironed anything for years . Dh does most of our cleaning and he is free .

Cleaner x 1,000,000

BarbaraofSeville · 18/02/2021 15:22

Definitely a cleaner, especially as it sounds like you already know someone who can do it, so you don't have to try and find someone.

You can count your daily walk to and from the station as your daily exercise, so good for fitness, mental health etc.

If you don't have any cleaning to do, you'll have more time to keep up with laundry and meal plan/think of healthy meals that don't cost the earth or take a lot of time to prepare as you'll be buying and eating food anyway.

Does she travel?🤣
PrimeraVez · 18/02/2021 15:23

Definitely the cleaner. Can she not do at least some of the ironing and change the beds as well?

Having a clean house to come home to each day makes a huge difference to my happiness!

Otherwise, the 25 min morning walk doesn’t sound fun to me. Fine when you’re running on time and the weather is good, but horrible otherwise! I would consider buying a bike that I could leave at the station each morning. You might still get wet in the rain but your journey will take you half the amount of time!

MangoButterFingers · 18/02/2021 15:23

I'd pick cleaner and laundry every single time.

Walking regularly is good for you, so I'd consider it a health bonus. I don't much care for take away food and prefer to just prepare my own.

FATEdestiny · 18/02/2021 15:24

Painter and decorator once a month, for a year. Plus single deep clean of room to be decorated just before it's done.

I fucking hate decorating.

AmethystMoonShine · 18/02/2021 15:27

Cleaner & laundry no hesitation Grin

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/02/2021 15:28

A cleaner once a week. £20 for 2 hours I'd guess? I only have a small 2 bed house so that would be enough.

Taxis to work when it's raining - I can't drive and I don't mind walking in dry weather but it's not so nice when it's pissing down like it did today!

coldemortreturns · 18/02/2021 15:28

With the walk, I still get the 25 min walk home Grin and the 2x 20 min walks the other side.... so lots of healthy walking for me lol!
I might ask if friend would do laundrey service as well but feel a bit funny about having someone I know wash my bedding... not sure why!

Ironing/laundry service - £15pw
Extra 2 days dog walking- £24pw
Fortnightly flower bouquet subscription -£10pw
Saving - £1pw

sunflowertulip · 18/02/2021 15:32

I'd keep the walk as its good exercise (I used to walk 2.5 miles to and from work each day as tube was a nightmare). So would chose what you hate the most to outsource! Personally I have a cleaner every other week, so I'd do that if i were you, 2 hours every other week so £10 a week. I also like Gousto a lot so may chose that, but I'd also like someone to change my sheets!

Homemadearmy · 18/02/2021 15:32

Taxi while the weather isn't very nice, a hours cleaning and a takeaway

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 18/02/2021 15:34

Cleaning and laundry definitely

Holothane · 18/02/2021 15:38

Cleaner worth weight in gold agree with taxi.

Toorapid · 18/02/2021 15:40

I'm not sure how much cleaning a single person household needs? I reckon my 4 bed house full of teens only takes about 3 hours a week.

I'd save it for something special, holiday, spa, good meal out with friends, something that makes a real difference to your quality of life. Oh and a robovac Grin
