£50 to make life easier...

So, if you had £50 a week to make life a bit easier for yourself what would you outsource? Live on my own with a bugger of a commute and a hatred of anything domestic.

  • taxi to train station instead of walking 25 mins in morning £5 a day.
  • food delivery company such as gusto - £30-£40 a week
  • take away food (not rubbish, nice restaurants that deliver) £10 a meal
  • cleaner £10ph
  • Laundry Service, bed lined washed and ironed plus a few work dresses/tops £15pw

What combination would you go for? Open to any other ideas as well!!

A cleaner for a couple of hours every week and then £20 on a Saturday night takeaway.

CMOTDibbler · 18/02/2021 15:41

£30 of cleaner, £10 of the cleaner ironing, and £10 for taxis or takeaway depending on how the weather has been.

I miss my cleaner. She decided to retire at the start of lockdown 1 and made so much difference to our stress levels. When we go back to travelling again we'll need to get a new one

Esspee · 18/02/2021 15:43

I’ve seen a lot of people on this thread mention ironing.
What does that involve exactly?

DeathAndTaxis · 18/02/2021 15:43

£30 Gousto, £20 cleaner

coldemortreturns · 18/02/2021 15:44

@Toorapid

I'm not sure how much cleaning a single person household needs? I reckon my 4 bed house full of teens only takes about 3 hours a week.

I'd save it for something special, holiday, spa, good meal out with friends, something that makes a real difference to your quality of life. Oh and a robovac Grin

I have a robovac! I really, really hate housework Grin I'm permanently perplexed at how living on my own I create so much mess, yet here I am. Think I have anti-brownies that mess things up in the night. Part of the appeal of takeaways is the no washing up 🙈

Weirdly I hate clearing up the aftermath of a takeaway more Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/02/2021 15:48

I’d do cleaner 3hrs, washing service.

Then I’d save for a dw because washing up hand uses a lot of drinking quality water.

BarbaraofSeville · 18/02/2021 15:48

Are you talking about tidying, or cleaning OP?

A cleaner probably won't deal with mess, generally, although if it's friend of your's, she might do. Do you need decluttering and organising, more than cleaning?

But I've never understood people who think that people without children don't need to clean. There's only me and DP here and he works away a lot in normal times, but the house is usually quite bad, because we don't clean enough. The cats probably don't help, but it certainly needs keeping on top of to avoid descending into filth and a lot of things need doing whether there's one person in the house or five or more.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 18/02/2021 15:50

Definitely cleaner and ironing service if xou need things ironed. Our cleaner is 20€ per hour but all properly insured and so on, and very reliable - completely worth it. I just don't iron - luckily nobody needs ironed work or school clothes in our house.

If you don't enjoy the walk to work and can find a suitable taxi company treat yourself to the taxi just on a Monday morning -

£30 for 3 hours cleaning, £15 for ironing, £5 one taxi - that should be your £50.

I wouldn't spend it on pre prepared food personally.

DavidsSchitt · 18/02/2021 15:54

Cleaner - 4 hours a week

Taxi - Monday and Tuesday

coldemortreturns · 18/02/2021 15:55

I actually do have a dishwasher, that's what I meant by washing up 🙈 Did I mention how much I hate house work Grin
Yes - cats dont help. Unless she gets behind the sofa and comes out covered in cobwebs my little furry duster!

Someone to do our meal planning and groceries shop for us. And if there's any change from that, a cleaner.

a gardener a couple of times a month, I bloody hate gardening but love nice looking gardens!

clpsmum · 18/02/2021 15:59

I would go for cleaner and laundry service

FabulouslyFab · 18/02/2021 15:59

If I ever had an extra £50 per week I would just enjoy seeing it sitting in the bank .......

Gardener and cleaner. And someone to change the sheets/do laundry. I don't think I'm going to get all that out of £50/week but I'd like to!

BarbaraofSeville · 18/02/2021 16:04

Grin

I foster rescue cats and a while ago delivered one of my fosters to a lovely young couple who had adopted her.

They'd just settled into their new home, which was very clean and tidy, but I got there, let the cat out and was just chatting to them about settling her in and when she might want some food and pointing out how many of the knick knacks said cat would knock off the shelf when the cat emerged from inspecting down the side of a kitchen cabinet covered in dust.

I could tell how embarrassed they were about the cat shaming their housekeeping standards having been there for all of 10 minutes.

petrocellihouse · 18/02/2021 16:05

Gardener - only have a small garden, but I can't keep on top of it and it needs lots of TLC. Also outsource the dog walking some days. I inherited the muttleys and would just like a lie in once in a while!

Scbchl · 18/02/2021 16:06

Cleaner 2 hours and taxi.

BarbaraofSeville · 18/02/2021 16:06

Plus tidying up for the cleaner is probably a good motivation. I think that's one reason why we don't have a cleaner. We'd have to tidy up in preparation.

NibbyNobbyNooNoos · 18/02/2021 16:12

Fresh flowers in the house, a gardener and a massage once a month

Springsnake · 18/02/2021 16:15

100% cleaner
