DH has these spots in his back. I think they started on a i day and have increased. They are lightly itchy. So you think it is from an insect bite? Thanks

Shingles is incredibly painful. Is he in pain?

ALongHardWinter · 17/02/2021 21:04

Looks very much like shingles to me.

Eleoura · 17/02/2021 21:06

Does he recall being bitten? Ants? Does an anti-itch/sting cream ease it?

It could be shingles. The spots are often in a vague line around half the body and can be incredibly painful. Speak to a GP asap to get antivirals like zovirax if the rash progresses or becomes more painful overnight.

RhapsodyandAshe · 17/02/2021 21:09

Shingles can be incredibly painful but I had them recently and found pain killers controlled the pain very well.
If your dh is immunocomprimised or has any reason to think his body would not deal well with the infection, he should talk to his GP and get anti-virals. This has to be done within the first 72 hours of active infection.
I didn't do this, because I don't really have any risk factors but I was advised by a pharmacist to consult with my GP.

Lookingforwardto2021 · 17/02/2021 21:10

Thanks all! I just asked and he said he is not in pain. But he rarely says anything hurts, I just think he has few pain nerves.

Could be ants, he was down there n the forest on Monday. I have put an insect bite soothing cream. But they are still spreading, although slowly

Can you have shingles without pain?

Yes, shingles.

LooksLively · 17/02/2021 21:12

Any chance of COVID? Could be a COVID rash if so. Was the only symptom my friend had.

Palavah · 17/02/2021 21:13

Shingles can be incredibly painful but it doesn't have to be.

NeedaCushion · 17/02/2021 21:15

Shingles is just one side of the spine. That rash appears to cross the spine.

My DH had shingles about four years ago. Had no idea! He had a rash very similar on his back, went to the doctor after a week thinking it was bites of some sort but she said no it's shingles. That night my DS came out in chicken pox spots.

All DH had was an unusual tiredness. No pain at all.

Lookingforwardto2021 · 17/02/2021 21:19

The rash is on both sides of his back and down to near his bums. Quite sporadic, no pattern as such but spreading a bit...

He says no itch, no pain.Confused Not entirely helpful feedback from him

After an ahem interrogation 😃, he says it feels like really dry skin and a slight itchiness especially once he starts scratching

Of dear. He does feel tired, I know he has mentioned it.

Just asked him though and he says he feels less tired lately

I had shingles last year - get him to go to the pharmacist tomorrow - they can diagnose it and then call the doctors who will do you a prescription for anti virals if you say your pharmacists have confirmed it. My mum had it years ago, no anti virals, and had very painful neuralgia for a long time after.

WatchWatch · 17/02/2021 21:34

No change in washing powder?

Are his glads swollen?

Sore throat? Fuzzy head? Any other issues over the last week or so?

WatchWatch · 17/02/2021 21:36

It doesn't look blotchy enough for shingles to me, but it's a very small area do hard to tell. I haven't seen many shingles cases that aren't painful but that's not to say it doesn't happen.

Lookingforwardto2021 · 17/02/2021 21:40

It isn’t blotchy as such. More like angry red bumps scattered across his back

OP posts:
Lookingforwardto2021 · 17/02/2021 21:42

No changes in washing powder. He says his glands are not swollen.. We do have cats and dogs. Could it be flea bites or something? But why on his back?

OP posts:
Lookingforwardto2021 · 17/02/2021 21:43

He doesn’t want to go to the GP. I’ll ask him to go to the pharmacy. Thanks!

OP posts:
doctorhamster · 17/02/2021 21:46

It's unlikely to be shingles if it's on both sides. Definitely show it to a pharmacist.

lonelyatchristmas · 17/02/2021 21:47

From what I k ow with shingles is that they stay on one side of the body and don't cross over to both sides.. had them years ago and was told they were so close to my eye that if they had gone untreated and travelled into my eye my sight could gotten damaged.. I was extremely tired for about a week before the rash appeared with severe burning around my eye..
