How many times have you heard the word Mummy today?

lachy · 17/02/2021 12:58

In the last ten minutes alone I've heard "mummy" 13 times. During this time DD has also eaten lunch.

By bedtime I think I'll have heard "Muummmmeee" approximately a thousand times.

None and I miss it. It's only Mum now. Blush

lachy · 17/02/2021 13:13

Aww, I feel bad! I know they grow out of it, but it must be hard Flowers

None, I nudged mine over to Mum around the time they started school as I don't like Mummy past toddler age.

Ooh, I suspect this thread will descend into the lovely 'mum/mummy' debate we love to have on MN.Grin

Ohalrightthen · 17/02/2021 13:18

i've heard it about a hundred times today, but from DH, as we're trying to teach DD how to say it! She's an expert at "daddy", "purple", "woof" and "yup", but her preferred way of addressing me is to smack me in the face and howl with laughter.

biibbiibobby · 17/02/2021 13:26

Not many times to be honest, I'm working from home so dh is in charge today. They have finished school work and they are currently baking and making lunch. They know that dh is more than capable to serve their needs so they don't bother me. They are 5 and 7.

Oh really Confused I've missed that debate!

Depends on how DD is feeling as to what she calls me.... Mamma, mum, mummy, Lachy

10 times in 13 minutes is the normal for me. My 5 year old seems incapable of not talking! Mummy, mummy, mummy, all day! I also have a 2 year old but he's much quieter unless he wants something. That's probably because he's never been able to get a word in over his brother!

JustPassingByCarryOn · 17/02/2021 13:58

@lachy Apparently a lot of mumsnetters think "mummy" past a certain age is the work of the devil and 'mum' should be the right way for everyone else in the world. If yours is still little, then you're probably safe from their wrathGrin.

😆😆 Honestly! You'd think there wasn't anything else to worry about!

DD is 4 going on 14

Approximately 712. Have you tried going Jaaames (or whatever they are called) each time they do it? It's hilarious. But be careful, it can turn in to a battle of wills and you might end up with 20 mins of constant Mummy, James, Mummy, James. I know, it happened to me (but I have the most sticking power and had the last word!).

sunshineandshowers21 · 17/02/2021 14:29

about a thousand. i get mother from the 13 year old, mummy from the 6 year old, muuuummmm from the 2 year old, and mamamamama from the baby! at least i always know which kid is shouting me Grin

DinosaurOfFire · 17/02/2021 14:45

Too. Many. Times. Usually followed by "so and so hit me/ looked at me/ is in the same room as me" today. Send help. Or chocolate.

Winecurestiredness · 17/02/2021 14:54

it was constant yesterday. Drove me bonkers, couldnt wait to get out for a walk. so my day went like this: DS1 8 says mummy can i have..., DS2 5 chimes in and talks over him with mummy mummy mummy then YOURE NOT LISTENING MUMMY! stamps feet and pushes DS1 out the way then i get the chorus of both DSs saying mummy, mummy, listen to me! I'm actually missing it today because DS2 is poorly..DS1 will only talk to himself or the computer! Grin

Spudlet · 17/02/2021 14:57

The soundtrack to my day is as follows: ‘Mum Mum, Mummy Mum, Mummy Mummy Mum Mum, Mum Mummy Mum Mum, Mum, Mum, MUM!’

I only have one dc, how people manage to not go completely insane is beyond me 😂

DS was really speech delayed though and needed loads of speech therapy to talk, so I try to cherish it as much as possible Smile

squishymamma · 17/02/2021 15:02

There aren't enough hands in the world to count the number of times my 1 year old has babbled "mamamama" at me today, often whilst following me round and whining for attention but also when I actually give said attention. Funnily enough DH and I both WFH and I haven't heard any "dadadada" which he is also perfectly capable of saying...

Warrickdaviesasplates · 17/02/2021 15:05

I'm currently watching a documentary about lions with DS, he's only 1 so I'm still mama to him, but every time he sees a lion (basically every single scene as it's an entire documentary about lions) he shouts "Mama! Mama! Raaa!"

I'm not sure about the day as a whole, I also have an 8 year old so I get the occasional "muuuuuum" from upstairs, but I've definitely heard "Mama!" About once a minute since this hour long programme started... we're only half way through so far!

PurpleFadesToGreen · 17/02/2021 16:09

Mum or mummy, not at all...yet!

Grandma, grandma, grandma lots.

Along with, why have you stopped grandma?
Go faster grandma.
Lights are red grandma.
Lights green grandma.
Grandma, is there a toilet ?
I hungry grandma...

Was only in the car 30 minutes...

Mysillystory · 17/02/2021 16:27

lachy · 17/02/2021 17:42
