I appear to have accidentally got a job at John Lewis

who knew? Because in the absolute catalogue of errors otherwise known as "trying to get all the right parts delivered for a wardrobe" we reached a new low today.

Apparently, because the latest widgets were damaged in transit so won't now be delivered, it's MY job to keep an eye on the John Lewis website until they come back into stock, and then ring customer services to let them know. So lucky lucky me, I get to manage their stock and logistics process for them!! Angry

Funnily enough, I was not impressed with this plan. Someone will probably not be ringing me back.

Sounds like an unpaid internship, you lucky thing! What has happened to JL customer service? There just isn’t any now

CuriousaboutSamphire · 16/02/2021 17:03

😁 Sorry, but that made me laugh.

When/if they ring back ask what the salary is and how generous the holiday allowance.

Make sure they give you the staff discount card!
MutteringDarkly · 16/02/2021 17:13

Ha! I am TOTALLY going to ask about all the staff benefits next time, I love it.

I am also having a woeful time with them at the moment. I have become an unpaid appliance engineer it seems.

MutteringDarkly · 16/02/2021 17:28

@BorisandHarriet with your repair skills and my logistics, we could go into business! (Very sorry you are also finding them to be useless though.)

Do they still give hefty bonuses?

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 16/02/2021 17:58

I love your humour, OP. And definitely go for that holiday house!

SeasonFinale · 16/02/2021 17:59

I think it actually means you are a partner in John Lewis Grin

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 16/02/2021 18:00

worth having the discount in Waitrose!

Sunnysausage · 16/02/2021 18:17

When you get into one of these nightmare situations with a major company you need to go to the top. The CEO’s office will have a team whose sole role is to sort out these kinds of more complicated problems. I can’t easily see the JL’s email address online but you could try this: [email protected]. She’s the Exec Director for customer service. I did it with JL a few years ago when I had a 4 month long nightmare with ordering an integrated fridge freezer, and with Thames Water only a fortnight ago. Both sorted quickly...
And while you’re on it you could ask them for an official position if you like HmmGrin

JerichoGirl · 16/02/2021 18:50

All the best with your career, sounds as though they need you onboard!

MutteringDarkly · 16/02/2021 18:57

Never fear, I have tried emailing the MD. Still not holding out much hope, but hey, it could be a whole new career - I don't fancy the uniform much though Grin

I would message them on Twitter and see if you can get some help that way. Usually works pretty well.

nzborn · 16/02/2021 19:18

I have had the same comment from another department store needless to say I'm not that desperate to buy their product and work for free in the process.
The correct term is an unreasonable transfer of effort.

MutteringDarkly · 16/02/2021 19:20

@nzborn that phrase is perfect. Sadly I need these items as I've built 90% of three wardrobes and need these missing bits to finish them off.

Tweet the CEO for an on boarding zoom call and let him know you'll be popping a review of your new workplace on glassdoor.

Didn't they outsource their Customer Service department to some useless company a few years ago. So you're not actually dealing with JLP?

WinstonmissesXmas · 16/02/2021 20:03

That wouldn’t happen at IKEA! You could just pop to the little bits and bobs counter and be done Wink

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 16/02/2021 20:05

Can you not ask to be furloughed? Grin

Respectmyauthoritah · 16/02/2021 20:08

I think Sitel handle their customer service. In which case you are doomed op and may as well embrace your new role.

I had an amazing experience a couple of years ago with JL. Brand new fridge packed up after 5 days. Long chats with customer “service” resulted in their suggestion that I nip to Argos to buy a small tabletop fridge to tide me over (they would pay) and then it would be best if I contacted the manufacturer myself (despite it being legally their job to do that). Apparently that’s more convenient. We came to a bit of a halt when I asked what I was meant to do with the temporary mini fridge once we had a working replacement fridge. It was a really bizarre conversation. They were absolutely determined to not be involved at all in any way. I did finally get it all sorted (after refusing to buy a mini fridge) but that was the final straw for me with JL. They used to be so good, it’s a shame
